To ensure safe operation, please follow these warnings:

• Before mounting or wiring, be sure to remove the wire from the battery minus terminal to prevent shorts or fires.

• When extending the ignition, battery, or ground wires, use automotive-grade wires or other wires with a 0.75mm² (AWG18) or more to prevent wire deterioration and damage to the wire coating.

• To prevent a short circuit, never put or leave any metallic objects (such as coins or metal tools) inside the speaker.

• If the unit generates smoke or an abnormal smell, immediately switch the power OFF. Contact your dealer or nearest service station as soon as possible.

• Connect the illumination lamp-equipped speakers to a DC 12V, negative ground system.

• Do not attempt to open or modify the unit, as this could cause a fire hazard or malfunction.

• After taking the unit out of the polyethylene bag, dispose of the bag out of the reach of children to prevent suffocation hazards.

• When mounting, ensure it is in a place that will not interfere with driving or be dangerous to passengers during sudden braking.

• After installation, check to make sure that electrical equipment such as brake lamps, turn signal lamps, and windshield wipers operate normally.

• The driver should always stop the vehicle in a safe place before operating the remote control.

• Do not use the product for purposes other than on-board mounting.

Please observe the following cautions for the KENWOOD KSC-SW01:

• Installation and wiring require expert skill and experience. To ensure safety, have a dealer or specialist perform the installation and wiring.

• Do not install the speaker in a spot exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat or humidity.

• Do not install the speakers in locations which may be subject to water or moisture, or in unstable or dusty locations.

• If the fuse blows, check for a shorted wiring cord, then replace it with a fuse of the stipulated size (amperage) as displayed on the fuse box. Using a different size can cause a fire.

• To prevent a short circuit when replacing a fuse, disconnect the wiring harness first.

• Do not use gasoline, naphtha, or any type of solvent to clean the speaker. Clean by wiping with a soft, dry cloth.

• Connect the speaker wires to appropriate speaker connectors separately. Sharing the negative wire or grounding speaker wires to the car’s metal body can cause the unit to fail.

• Do not connect cables and leads to both RCA cord input jacks and the speaker input terminals simultaneously, as this may cause malfunction or damage.

• When making a hole in the vehicle, check the opposite side for hazards like a gasoline tank, brake pipe, or wiring harness. Be careful not to cause scratches or damage.

• For ground wire mounting, do not fasten the wire to an airbag, steering or brake line system, or other critical safety unit bolts or nuts, as this can cause accidents.

Connect the remote control cord to the REMOTE terminal on the main subwoofer unit. Ensure you connect it with the lock part of the remote control jack facing down. When the power turns ON, the illumination on the main unit will light up in blue.

Notes:

• If the cord is not connected properly, the power indicator on the remote control unit and the illumination on the main unit will not light up.

• If the remote control unit is not connected properly or at all, the subwoofer will not output sound.

• Do not insert the remote control connector upside down or forcibly, as this may cause a malfunction.

Connect the subwoofer to the front or rear speaker output cords of the center unit using the included 10-pin connector cord. The gray/black and gray wires connect to the right speaker input, and the white/black and white wires connect to the left speaker input.

The yellow wire connects to the battery, the black wire connects to a ground point, and the blue/white wire is for power control.

• If there is no power control terminal in the center unit, connect the blue/white wire to the accessory line (ignition key switch ACC position line).

• If you hear buzzing noise from the speakers when the engine is running, attach a commercially available line noise filter to the power lead.

Caution: Connect the black lead wire ground terminal directly with a screw to an unpainted metal part of the vehicle. Painted metal panels are not grounded. Failure to connect this terminal properly can cause damage to the stereo system.

Notes:

• Read the instruction manuals for the connected components as well as this instruction manual.

• If the center unit incorporates a DSP, do not connect to the rear output, as the low-frequency reproduction effect may be attenuated due to the DSP effect.

Connect the subwoofer to the subwoofer output (non-fader output) or the front output RCA jacks of the center unit using a commercially available RCA cord.

• If the center unit output is a single RCA jack, use an RCA cord that converts the output into two RCA jacks. The subwoofer output will be halved if a conversion cord is not used.

• The power connections (yellow to battery, black to ground, blue/white to power control) are the same as for a speaker-level connection. If there is no power control terminal in the center unit, connect the blue/white wire to the accessory line (ignition key switch ACC position line).

Caution:

• Never apply inputs to both the speaker-level input terminals and the RCA LINE IN terminals simultaneously.

• Cover any unused terminals with insulation tape to avoid short circuits.

• Connect the black ground wire directly to an unpainted metal part of the vehicle to prevent damage to the system.

Notes:

• Read the instruction manuals for all connected components.

• If the center unit has a DSP, connect the subwoofer to the subwoofer (non-fader) output or the front output RCA jacks. Do not connect to the rear output RCA jacks, as the DSP effect may attenuate the low-frequency reproduction.

Before fixing the speaker, check the sound while it is connected preliminarily.

Caution: When making a hole in the vehicle, check that there is nothing hazardous on the opposite side (e.g., gasoline tank, brake pipe, wiring harness). Install it in a location that does not interfere with driving or movement inside the vehicle. Fix the product firmly so it will not be moved by vibrations or impacts.

1. Attach the two fixtures (①) to the speaker unit securely using the four machine screws (②). Be careful that the connected cords do not get between the speaker unit and the fixtures.

2. Drill four pilot holes for ø 3.6 mm screws into the sheet metal section of the vehicle.

3. Attach the speaker unit to the vehicle using the four tapping screws (③).

Note that the portion of the unit with the fins functions as a radiator for heat generated by the amplifier and will become slightly hotter than other parts.

Install the remote control unit on the vehicle using the provided Velcro tape (⑤).

Attach the harder surface of the Velcro tape to the rear panel of the remote control unit, and the softer surface to a location in the vehicle.

Caution: Install the remote control unit in a position that does not interfere with driving operations. Avoid installing it in a place subject to direct sunlight or direct hot wind from the heater, as this may degrade the product or cause a fire hazard. Remove dirt from the installation position before attaching the Velcro tape.

Caution: Be sure to replace the fuse with one of the same capacity (amperage) as displayed on the fuse. This product uses a 10A fuse.

Removal:

1. Open the cover on the fuse holder.

2. Grasp the fuse and pull it up.

Insertion:

1. Insert the new 10A fuse gently into the fuse holder and push it in all the way with your finger.

2. Close the cover.

Main Unit:

• FREQUENCY control knob: This is the cut-off frequency control knob.

• PHASE switch: This is the phase select switch (0° or 180°).

Remote Control:

• VOLUME control knob: This is the input sensitivity control knob.

1. Adjust Cut-off Frequency: Use a minus driver to turn the FREQUENCY control knob on the main unit. This adjusts the cut-off frequency (50 Hz to 120 Hz), cutting off frequencies higher than the selected point. Adjust this to balance the bass from the rear speakers and the bass from this unit.

2. Adjust Low Frequency Phase: The low frequency tone can vary depending on the unit’s position. Adjust this by changing the PHASE switch on the main unit to either 0° (normal phase) or 180° (reverse phase) according to your preference.

3. Adjust Volume: Turn the VOLUME control knob on the remote control to adjust the low frequencies to your desired level.

If the power cannot be turned on, please check the following possible causes and remedies:

• Cause: The fuse is blown.

• Remedy: Check the (+)/(-) polarity of the power cord and that the cords are not shorted, then replace with a fuse with the rated capacity.

• Cause: The remote control cord is unplugged.

• Remedy: Plug the cord into the REMOTE terminal.

• Cause: The power supply pin (yellow) of the 10-pin connection cord is not connected.

• Remedy: Connect the cord correctly by referring to the connection example.

• Cause: The power control pin (blue/white) of the 10-pin connection cord is not connected.

• Remedy: Connect the cord correctly by referring to the connection example.

• Cause: The grounding pin (black) of the 10-pin connection cord is not connected.

• Remedy: Attach the grounding terminal to the metallic section of the vehicle (not a coated surface) by tightly screwing it.

• Cause: The 10-pin connector is not plugged in completely.

• Remedy: Insert the connector all the way in.

• Cause: The negative (-) cable of the car battery is disconnected.

• Remedy: Check the connections of all cords, then connect the (-) cable to the battery.

If there is no sound, check the following:

• Cause: The attenuator of the center unit is set to ON.

• Remedy: Switch the attenuator OFF.

• Cause: The VOLUME control is set to the MIN position.

• Remedy: Increase the volume to an optimum level.

• Cause: The speaker cords are connected improperly.

• Remedy: Connect the cords correctly by referring to the connection example.

• Cause: Connection terminals are connected improperly.

• Remedy: Insert the connectors or jacks all the way into the terminals.

• Cause: The remote control cord is unplugged.

• Remedy: Plug the cord into the REMOTE terminal.

If the sound is small or distorted, check the following:

• Cause: The input level is set to low. (Sound is small)

• Remedy: Turn the VOLUME control knob and set the input level to an optimum level.

• Cause: The input level is set to high. (Sound is distorted)

• Remedy: Turn the VOLUME control knob and set the input level to an optimum level.

If the sound is unnatural, check these potential issues:

• Cause: The speaker cords are connected with incorrect positive (+)/negative (-) polarity.

• Remedy: Connect the cords correctly by referring to the connection example.

• Cause: The grounding pin (black) of the 10-pin connection cord is poorly contacted.

• Remedy: Attach the grounding terminal to the metallic section of the vehicle (not a coated surface) by tightly screwing it.

• Cause: The balance between the front speakers or between those and the rear speakers are not well adjusted.

• Remedy: Adjust the tone balance by switching the PHASE switch to 0° or 180° as required.
