How do I operate the controller of the HYGGER HGY0004?
Before operation, ensure the HYGGER HGY0004 pump is properly connected to the control unit. The touch LED display shows the mode, intensity, and any error messages.
Display Indicators:
“L” indicates the pumping mode, adjustable from 1 to 20 levels.
“F” indicates the wave-making mode, adjustable from 1 to 20 levels.
“FE10” indicates the feeding mode is active for 10 minutes.
Button Functions:
Power Button (circle with vertical line): Short press to switch the appliance on or off.
Mode Button (wave/pump icon): Short press to toggle between waveform (wave-making) and pumping mode.
Plus (+) Button: Short press to increase the strength to the next level. Long press to quickly jump up through the strength levels.
Minus (-) Button: Short press to decrease the strength to the previous level. Long press to quickly toggle down through the strength levels.
Feed/Lock Button (fish icon): Short press to activate or exit feeding mode. Long press for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the screen. The screen will also lock automatically after 1 minute of inactivity (all digits will blink to indicate lock status).
What do the error codes on the HYGGER HGY0004 controller mean and how do I fix them?
If there is a malfunction in the HYGGER HGY0004 pump operation, the display will indicate an error code accordingly:
E1: Overvoltage protection. This means the input voltage is more than 28V. The control unit stops the pump. Check the adapter for moisture or water ingress and replace it if necessary.
E2: Undervoltage protection. This means the input voltage is less than 18V. The controller stops the pump. Check whether the input voltage is suitable for the adapter and replace the adapter if necessary.
E3: Overcurrent protection. This means the current is higher than normal. Check whether the controller has become damp or if there is a short circuit present. If necessary, replace the controller.
E4: Dry running protection. This is triggered if the pump is outside the water or the water level is below half of the water intake. The pump will switch off, then try to start again after one minute. After five cycles of failing to detect water, the pump switches off for good. To fix this, fill up the water so that the pump is completely covered. Disconnect the pump from the power supply, wait briefly, and then plug the adapter back into the socket.
E5: Motor blockade protection. This displays when the pump motor is stuck. You will need to check the motor. Clean the impeller and the pump housing/chamber, and make sure they are assembled correctly after cleaning.
How do I properly operate the HYGGER HGY0004 pump?
If the water intake grille is clogged or dirty, the pump performance may decrease.
If you are using the pump on a dirty surface, you should raise the pump slightly so that fewer dirt particles are sucked in.
Do not allow the pump to run dry as this can damage it. Therefore, always place the pump in water first and only then connect it to the power supply.
If no water is initially pumped when the pump is started up, there is still air inside the pump or in the plug connection. Unplug and plug in the pump several times to drive the air out of the pump; the appliance should then work properly.
How do I use the HYGGER HGY0004 as a bottom suction pump or in low water levels?
CAUTION: Never run the HYGGER HGY0004 pump outside the water as this may damage the motor. Always submerge the pump completely.
When used in a low water level, a water inlet elbow should be installed.
When used as a bottom suction pump, the minimum water level must be above 0.5 inches (12mm) to prevent the pump from sucking in air.
When used as a side suction pump, the minimum water levels vary by capacity:
For 2000L and 3000L models, the minimum water level is not less than 60mm.
For 4500L, 5500L and 7000L models, the minimum water level is not less than 75mm.
For 9000L and 12000L models, the minimum water level is not less than 85mm.
How do I perform maintenance on my HYGGER HGY0004 pump?
To clean the pump, remove the back cover, sealing cover, and the impeller. Use a small brush or steam of water to remove any debris.
If the pump doesn’t work after cleaning, check the following:
1. Check the circuit. Try plugging into another power socket to ensure the pump is receiving power. Note, do not plug in before operating.
2. Check the pump outlet and tube for any blockage by debris.
3. Check the inlet to ensure it is not clogged by debris.
4. Remove the pump inlet to access the impeller. Turn the rotor to check whether it is broken or jammed.
Monthly maintenance will prolong your pump’s life. Clean the rotor and remove any dirt or debris regularly.
What are the essential safety warnings for using the HYGGER HGY0004?
To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed, including the following:
1. Read and follow the user manual strictly.
2. DANGER-To avoid possible electric shock, be careful when handling aquarium equipment. If the pump shows any sign of abnormal water leakage or if the RCD (or GFCI) trips, unplug the power and remove the pump from the water.
3. Carefully examine the pump after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
4. Do not operate the pump if it has a damaged cord or plug, is malfunctioning, or has been dropped or damaged. The power cord cannot be replaced; if damaged, the pump must be discarded.
5. Close supervision is necessary when the pump is used near children.
6. This pump should not be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, unless they have supervision or instruction from a person responsible for their safety.
7. To avoid injury, do not contact moving or hot parts.
8. Always unplug the pump when not in use, before maintenance, or before placing hands in the water. Never yank the cord; grasp the plug firmly to disconnect.
9. Do not use the pump for other than its intended use. Using attachments not recommended by the manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
10. Do not install or store the pump where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below freezing. It is suitable for water temperatures less than 95°F.
11. Do not submerge in more than 5ft of water depth.
12. Do not let the pump run dry or out of water.
13. Only use in freshwater or saltwater; do not use the pump in other liquids.
14. Ensure the pump is securely installed before operating it.
15. If an extension cord is needed, use one with a proper rating. A cord rated for fewer amperes or watts than the appliance may overheat.
16. The pump is for household use only. Do not use or mount it in a way that restricts or blocks the top vents, which are necessary for cooling.
How do I set up a “drip loop” for the HYGGER HGY0004 to prevent electric shock?
To avoid the possibility of the pump plug getting wet, position the aquarium stand and tank to one side of a wall-mounted outlet. A “drip loop” should be arranged for each cord connecting the HYGGER HGY0004 to the receptacle. The “drip loop” is the part of the cord that hangs below the level of the receptacle or outlet. This prevents water from traveling along the cord and coming into contact with the outlet. If the plug or outlet does get wet, DO NOT unplug the cord. Instead, disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the pump. Then, unplug the cord and examine the outlet for the presence of water.
My new HYGGER HGY0004 pump arrived with a little water in it. Is this normal?
Yes, this is a normal phenomenon. All HYGGER HGY0004 pumps are professionally tested by the manufacturer before shipment. The small amount of water you received with the pump was left from this professional water testing. The pump is new and normal.
How should I dispose of the HYGGER HGY0004 pump?
Do not dispose of the HYGGER HGY0004 as unsorted municipal waste. This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste. It requires collection separately for special treatment. This product must be disposed of at an authorized place for the recycling of electrical and electronic appliances. By collecting and recycling waste, you help save natural resources and ensure the product is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
