To reduce the risk of injury, read the operating instructions carefully before using your HOTSY DB-2527. Failure to follow instructions could cause malfunction of the machine and result in death, serious bodily injury, and/or property damage.

1. Read the owner’s manual thoroughly.

2. Know how to stop the machine and bleed pressure quickly. Be thoroughly familiar with the controls.

3. Stay alert and watch what you are doing.

4. All installations must comply with local codes.

WARNING: Risk of asphyxiation. Use this product only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid installing machines in small areas or near exhaust fans. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas; exposure may cause loss of consciousness and may lead to death.

WARNING: Risk of fire. Do not add fuel when the product is operating.

WARNING: Risk of explosion. Do not spray flammable liquids.

Do not place the machine near flammable objects as the engine is hot.

Operation of this equipment may create sparks that can start fires around dry vegetation. A spark arrestor may be required. The operator should contact local fire agencies for laws or regulations relating to fire prevention requirements.

Allow the engine to cool for 1-2 minutes before refueling. If any fuel is spilled, make sure the area is dry before testing the spark plug or starting the engine. Gasoline engines on mobile or portable equipment shall be refueled:

a. outdoors;

b. with the engine on the equipment stopped;

c. with no source of ignition within 10 feet of the dispensing point; and

d. with an allowance made for expansion of the fuel should the equipment be exposed to a higher ambient temperature.

For transport or repair, the fuel tank should be EMPTY or the fuel shut-off valve should be OFF.

High Pressure: High pressure developed by this machine will cause personal injury or equipment damage. Keep clear of the nozzle. Do not direct the discharge stream at people.

Electrical Safety: Keep the wand, hose, and water spray away from electric wiring or fatal electric shock may result. Do not spray water on or near electrical components.

Hearing Protection: This machine exceeds 85 db; appropriate ear protection must be worn.

Protective Gear: High-pressure spray can cause paint chips or other particles to become airborne. To avoid personal injury, eye, hand, and foot safety devices must be worn.

Secure Grip: Grip the cleaning wand securely with both hands before starting. Failure to do this could result in injury from a whipping wand.

Supervision: Close supervision is necessary when the machine is used near children. Do not allow children to operate the pressure washer.

1. Freezing: Protect the machine from freezing. Failure to do so could cause malfunction and damage. Follow storage instructions specified in the manual.

2. Unstable Locations: Be extremely careful when using a ladder, scaffolding, or any other relatively unstable location. The cleaning area should have adequate slopes and drainage.

3. Balance: Do not overreach or stand on unstable support. Keep good footing and balance at all times.

4. Impairment: Do not operate this machine when fatigued or under the influence of alcohol, prescription medications, or drugs.

5. Water Supply: Inlet water must be clean fresh water and no hotter than 90°F.

6. Fluids: Do not allow acids, caustic, or abrasive fluids to pass through the pump.

7. Pump Care: Never run the pump dry or leave the spray gun closed longer than 1-2 minutes.

8. Shut-off Gun: Do not operate machines with a shut-off spray gun in the off position for extensive periods, as this may damage the pump.

9. Hose Protection: Protect the discharge hose from vehicle traffic and sharp objects. Inspect its condition before use.

The pneumatic tires may not be fully inflated due to shipping and storage. Check the air pressure of each tire before use:

a. Remove the valve cap from the tire.

b. Attach a bicycle pump and inflate the tire to a maximum pressure of 25 PSI. Note: If a compressor must be used, follow the compressor manufacturer’s guidelines to limit the output pressure so as not to exceed 25 PSI.

c. Replace the valve cap to the tire valve and tighten firmly. Tire pressure should not exceed 25 PSI.

Pump: Develops high pressure.

Starter Grip: Used for starting the engine manually.

Spray Gun: Controls the application of water and detergent with a trigger device and includes a safety latch.

Detergent Injector: Allows you to siphon and mix detergents.

Wand: Must be connected to the spray gun.

High Pressure Hose: Connects the water pump discharge to the spray gun.

Pump Protector: Cycles fresh cool water through the pump when recirculating water reaches 140°F to prevent internal pump damage. Note: If the trigger is released for more than 1-2 minutes, warm water will discharge from the pump protector onto the floor.

Unloader: A component on DB-3835 and DB-3540 models.

Pressure Nozzle: Attaches to the wand to create a specific spray pattern.

Inlet Screen: Filters water coming from the garden hose.

STEP 1: Attach the handle to the frame of the pressure washer. It may be necessary to move the handle supports from side to side to align it so it will slide over the frame supports.

STEP 2: Insert the carriage bolt through the holes from the outside of the unit and attach a nut from the inside. Tighten nuts.

STEP 3: Attach the spray gun/hose storage bracket to the handle. Tighten nuts.

STEP 4: Attach the high-pressure hose to the spray gun using teflon tape on the hose threads.

STEP 5: Attach the nozzle extension to the spray gun/wand. Tighten both by hand.

STEP 6: Pull the spring-loaded collar of the wand coupler back to insert your choice of pressure nozzle.

STEP 7: Release the coupler collar and push the nozzle until the collar clicks. Pull the nozzle to ensure it is seated properly.

STEP 8: Connect the high-pressure hose to the pump discharge nipple. Push the coupler collar forward until secure.

STEP 9: Connect a garden hose (7.5m) to a cold water source.

STEP 10: Check inlet filters, remove debris, then connect the garden hose to the pump water inlet. CAUTION: Do not run the pump without water, or pump damage will result.

STEP 1: Check engine oil level. The oil level should be level with the bottom of the oil filler neck. Ensure the machine is level when checking. The oil should be changed after the first 5 hours of use, then every 50 hours. IMPORTANT: Do not run the engine with high or low oil levels as this will cause engine damage.

STEP 2: Check pump oil level. Remove the shipping cap and install the oil dipstick. Check the pump oil level using the dipstick or by observing the oil level in the oil window (if equipped). Use 30 wt. (non-detergent) oil.

STEP 3: Fill the gas tank. Fill the tank with unleaded gasoline. Do not use leaded gasoline.

STEP 4: With water connected and turned on, trigger the spray gun to eliminate trapped air. Wait for a steady flow of water to emerge from the spray nozzle.

STEP 5: Rotate the fuel shut-off valve to the “On” position. Slide the fuel valve lever to the “ON” position. When the engine is not in use, leave the fuel valve in the “OFF” position.

STEP 6: Move the choke lever to the “Choke” position. For a warm engine, leave the choke lever in the run position. To restart a warm engine, leave the choke lever in the “Open” position.

STEP 8: Turn the engine switch to the “On” position. On Briggs engines, move the throttle lever to the “Fast” position (shown as a rabbit).

STEP 9: Pull the starter grip. If the engine fails to start after 2 pulls, squeeze the trigger gun to release pressure and repeat. Return the starter gently. After the engine warms up enough to run smoothly, move the choke to the run position and the throttle to the fast position. CAUTION: Small engines may kick back. Do not hold the pull starter grip tightly in hand.

The four color-coded quick connect nozzles provide a wide array of spray widths from 15° to 40°. They are easily accessible when placed in the convenient rubber nozzle holder on the front of the machine. WARNING! Never replace nozzles without engaging the safety latch on the spray gun trigger.

White 40° or Green 25° Nozzle: For a more gentle rinse.

Yellow 15° Nozzle: To scour the surface.

Black Nozzle: To apply detergent.

WARNING: Some detergents may be harmful if inhaled or ingested, causing severe nausea, fainting or poisoning.

STEP 1: Connect the detergent injector to the discharge nipple on the machine. Connect the high pressure hose to the injector with the quick coupler.

STEP 2: Use a detergent designed specifically for pressure washers. Prepare the detergent solution as required by the manufacturer and place the filter end of the detergent suction tube into the container.

STEP 3: With the safety latch on the spray gun engaged, secure the black detergent nozzle into the quick coupler. NOTE: Detergent cannot be applied using the yellow, green, or white nozzles.

STEP 4: With the engine running, pull the trigger to operate the machine. Apply detergent to the work area. Do not allow detergent to dry on the surface.

IMPORTANT: You must flush the detergent injection system after each use by placing the suction tube into a bucket of clean water, then run the pressure washer in low pressure for 1-2 minutes.

Pre-rinse the cleaning surface with fresh water. Apply detergent at low pressure from the bottom to the top, working in sections of approximately 6 feet square. Allow the detergent to remain on the surface for 1-3 minutes but do not let it dry. If it appears to be drying, wet it down with fresh water. If needed, use a brush to remove stubborn dirt. Rinse at high pressure from top to bottom in an even sweeping motion, keeping the spray nozzle approximately 1 foot from the cleaning surface. Use overlapping strokes.

Recommendations:

• Before cleaning any surface, test the spray pattern and distance on an inconspicuous area.

• If painted surfaces are peeling or chipping, use extreme caution as the pressure washer may remove the loose paint.

• Keep the spray nozzle a safe distance from the surface you plan to clean. Wash a small area and check for damage before continuing.

CAUTION – Never use:

• Bleach, chlorine products, and other corrosive chemicals.

• Liquids containing solvents (e.g., paint thinner, gasoline, oils).

• Tri-sodium phosphate products.

• Ammonia products.

• Acid-based products.

These chemicals will harm the machine and damage the surface being cleaned.

It will take a few seconds for the detergent to clear. Apply the safety latch to the spray gun. Remove the black soap nozzle from the quick coupler. Select and install the desired high-pressure nozzle (yellow, green, or white). NOTE: You can also stop the detergent flow by simply removing the detergent siphon tube from the bottle.

STEP 1: Remove the detergent suction tube from its container and insert it into one gallon of fresh water. With the black detergent nozzle connected (or nozzle slid forward for low pressure), pull the trigger on the spray gun and siphon water for one minute to flush the system.

STEP 2: Turn off the engine.

STEP 3: Turn off the water supply.

STEP 4: Press the trigger to release any remaining water pressure.

STEP 5: Disconnect the garden hose from the water inlet on the machine.

STEP 6: Disconnect the high-pressure hose from the pump discharge nipple.

STEP 7: Engage the spray gun safety lock.

CAUTION: Always store your pressure washer in a location where the temperature will not fall below 32°F (0°C). The pump in this machine is susceptible to permanent damage if frozen. FREEZE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.

1. Stop the pressure washer and squeeze the spray gun trigger to release pressure.

2. Detach the water supply hose and high-pressure hose.

3. Turn on the machine for a few seconds until the remaining water exits. Turn the engine off immediately.

4. Drain the gas from the engine.

5. Do not allow the high-pressure hose to become kinked.

6. Store the machine and accessories in a room which does not reach freezing temperatures.

CAUTION: Prior to restarting after storage, thaw out any possible ice from the pressure washer hoses, spray gun, or wand.

When the pressure washer is not being operated or is being stored for more than one month, follow these instructions:

1. Replenish engine oil to the upper level.

2. Drain gasoline from the fuel tank, fuel line, fuel valve, and carburetor.

3. Pour about one teaspoon of engine oil through the spark plug hole, pull the starter grip several times, and replace the plug. Then pull the starter grip slowly until you feel increased pressure, which indicates the piston is on its compression stroke. Leave it in this position to close both valves and prevent rusting.

4. Cover the pressure washer and store it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated place away from open flames or sparks. NOTE: Using a fuel additive, such as STA-BIL®, can minimize fuel deposit formation during storage.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Insufficient water supply, closed faucet, or kinked inlet hose: Use a larger garden hose, clean the inlet water screen, and open the faucet fully.

• Clogged inlet hose strainer: Check the plumbing system for leaks. Re-tape leaks with Teflon tape.

• Faulty or improperly adjusted unloader valve: Adjust the unloader for proper pressure. Install a repair kit when needed. Contact a local dealer.

• Worn packing in pump: Contact a local dealer.

• Machine has been stored in freezing temperatures: Thaw out the machine completely, including the hose, spray gun, and wand.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Slow engine RPM: Contact a local dealer.

• Worn or dirty pump valves: Contact a local dealer.

• Nozzle is obstructed: Blow out or remove debris with a fine needle.

• Pump sucking air, inlet hose leaking: Check all pump lines and connections.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Nozzle worn: Replace the nozzle.

• Unloader valve worn: Replace the unloader valve.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Low oil shutdown: Fill the engine with oil.

• Out of gas: Fill the fuel tank.

• Water in gasoline: Drain the gas tank and fill with clean fuel.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Nozzle partially blocked: Clean the nozzle.

• Excessive pressure from high engine RPM: Adjust the engine throttle to a lower RPM.

A small amount of leaking is normal. If excessive leaking occurs, contact a local dealer.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Water sprayed at machine: Change the oil. Direct spray away from the machine.

• High humidity in air: Check and change the oil twice as often.

• Piston packing worn. Oil seal worn: Contact a local dealer.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Not enough gas or engine oil: Fill the tank with gas. Check the oil level.

• Vapor lock developed by heat of day: Keep the gas tank full to avoid vapor locking.

• Obstruction in fuel filter: Clean or replace the fuel filter.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Dirty air filter (lacks power): Replace the air filter.

• Choke is opened too soon (falters): Move the choke to the halfway position until the engine runs smoothly.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Piston packing worn: Contact local dealer.

• O-Ring plunger retainer worn: Contact local dealer.

• Cracked piston: Contact local dealer.

If the oil seal is worn or damaged, contact a local dealer.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Spray gun closed with machine running 5 minutes or longer: Open the spray gun or turn off the machine.

• Excess water supply pressure: Place a pressure regulator at the end of a 50′ garden hose.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

• Detergent suction tube not properly connected to machine: Check the connection.

• Detergent is too thick: Dilute the detergent. For best results, use the manufacturer’s detergent.

• Detergent filter valve is at the lowest setting: Set the detergent filter valve to a higher setting.

• Filter on detergent suction tube is clogged: Run warm water through the filter to remove debris.

• Damaged or clogged detergent suction tube: Remove the obstruction or replace the detergent suction tube.

• A high-pressure nozzle is attached: Replace it with the black detergent nozzle.

• Discharge nozzle is obstructed: Blow out or remove debris with a fine needle.

Garden Hose Connection Leaks:

• Loose fittings: Tighten fittings.

• Missing/worn rubber washer: Insert a new washer.

Spray Wand Leaks:

• Spray wand not properly attached: Slide the spray wand into the gun. Turn the wand collar clockwise onto the spray gun threads until tight.

• Broken o-ring: Call your distributor and order an o-ring.

If the pump is sucking air, check that all hoses and fittings are airtight. Turn off the machine and purge the pump by squeezing the trigger gun until a steady flow of water emerges through the nozzle.

Regular preventative maintenance will add many hours to the life of your pressure washer. Perform maintenance more often under severe conditions.
