The HORSTMANN CENTAURPLUS C17-ZW is a combined timeswitch and room thermostat system. It consists of the CentaurPlus ZW timeswitch, which is mains powered and connected to the boiler, and the HRT4-ZW room thermostat, which uses Z-wave wireless technology. It is designed to upgrade existing combi boiler systems that do not have an existing room thermostat.

On the timeswitch, a red neon indicator light shows when the timeswitch is in an ‘On’ period. If there is no light, the heating is ‘Off’.

On the thermostat display:

A flame symbol appears when the thermostat is ‘calling’ for heat.

A radio mast symbol indicates the radio link is established.

A flashing radio mast symbol means the wireless connection has been temporarily lost.

If no indicator is present next to the radio mast symbol, the units may not be paired correctly.

The Boost function allows you to boost the system for 1 hour when it is currently ‘OFF’. To use it:

1. Press the BOOST button. The system will be boosted for 1 hour, and ‘BOOST’ will appear on the display along with the system ON indicator.

2. At any time during the boost period, press the BOOST button again to cancel the operation and return to normal programming.

The Advance facility brings forward the next ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’ operation.

1. Press the ADVANCE button once to move to the next ON/OFF time. ‘ADVANCE’ will show on the display, and if switching to ON, the system ON indicator will illuminate.

2. To cancel the advance, press the ADVANCE button again to return the unit to its normal programme.

You can alter the functionality of the programme by using the SELECT button. The options include:

AUTO: The timeswitch follows all programmed ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ times.

ALL DAY: The timeswitch operates from the 1st ‘ON’ time until the 3rd ‘OFF’ time, ignoring all switching times in between.

24hrs: The timeswitch will be constantly ‘ON’.

OFF: The timeswitch will be constantly ‘OFF’. This allows you to turn off the heating during the summer without altering programme times (Boost is still available).

If the display becomes frozen or scrambled, or to revert to default settings:

1. Ensure the power is ‘ON’.

2. Press the SET and SELECT buttons together.

3. Release the buttons, and the timeswitch will return to preset factory settings.

1. Press the SET button until the set indicator is next to the ‘clock’ position.

2. Use the + and – buttons to adjust the hour and press ENTER.

3. Use the + and – buttons to adjust the minutes and press ENTER.

4. Use the + and – buttons to set the date and press ENTER.

5. Use the + and – buttons to set the month and press ENTER.

6. Use the + and – buttons to set the year and press ENTER.

7. Once the ENTER button is pressed after setting the year, the process is complete, and the display returns to the run position.

To alter the time settings:

1. Press the SET button until the SET indicator is next to the PROG position.

2. Use the PLUS and MINUS buttons to adjust the day you wish to program and press ENTER.

3. Use the PLUS and MINUS buttons to adjust the 1st ON time and press ENTER.

4. Use the PLUS and MINUS buttons to adjust the 1st OFF time and press ENTER.

5. Repeat this process for the 2nd and 3rd settings.

6. If you want to copy these times to another day, use the PLUS and MINUS buttons to select the next day and press COPY. Repeat for other days as required.

7. To set independent times for other days, press ENTER instead of COPY, select the day, and repeat the time setting process.

8. To finish programming, press the SET button until the SET indicator is in the RUN position.

The default factory settings are as follows:

Note: The factory default settings for the 2nd ON/OFF times are both set at 12:00pm (midday), which cancels this ‘ON’ period.

To adjust the required temperature setting, turn the dial anti-clockwise to decrease it and clockwise to increase it. The display will show the required temperature setting adjustable in increments of 1°C. Pressing the temperature setting dial allows you to check the actual measured room temperature, which displays for approximately 7 seconds.

The HRT4-ZW uses 2 x AAA (Alkaline) non-rechargeable batteries. When the low battery symbol appears, change them within a few days. To replace them:

1. Undo the two captive screws at the base of the thermostat.

2. Swing the thermostat up and away from the wall plate.

3. Remove the old batteries and replace them with two new AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct orientation.

4. Re-fit the thermostat by engaging the lugs at the top of the wall plate and pushing the thermostat into position.

5. Tighten the captive screws at the base to lock it into position.
