Locate the HONEYWELL TRADELINE T6051A thermostat about five feet above the floor on an inside wall. It should be placed in an area where it will be affected only by the average temperature of the room. The T6051A may be mounted either vertically or horizontally.

If you are mounting the HONEYWELL TRADELINE T6051A horizontally, the coverplate must be changed. Follow these steps:

1. To remove the vertical coverplate, bend the four corner tabs to the outside and push out on the cover.

2. Place the horizontal coverplate on the cover frame.

3. Bend the four corner tabs to the inside to secure it.

1. Mount a 2 by 4 inch outlet box either vertically or horizontally, as desired.

2. Run conduit between the outlet box, the power source, and the unit being controlled. Leave about six inches of wire in the box for connections.

3. Place the mounting plate on the outlet box either vertically or horizontally. Insert the two furnished mounting screws, leaving them loose enough to move the mounting plate for leveling.

4. Level the mounting plate and then tighten the mounting screws.

5. Connect the system wires to the back terminals of the thermostat.

6. When wiring is complete, secure the fiber insulator by snapping the holes in the flap over the switch rivet heads. If the normally open terminal is used, clip the flap to allow it to pass around the wire.

7. Hang the thermostat on the mounting plate tabs.

8. Take the furnished socket-head cover mounting screw and insert it in the tab at the bottom of the base. Do not tighten it yet.

9. Replace the cover.

10. Insert the set point knob into the socket-head screw and tighten. This fastens the cover and thermostat to the mounting plate. You can then remove the knob for setting.

CAUTION: Disconnect the power supply before making wiring connections to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage. All wiring must agree with local electrical codes and ordinances. Refer to the wiring diagrams and instructions packed with the subbase and/or the heating/cooling equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

The HONEYWELL TRADELINE T6051A thermostat was calibrated at the factory for accuracy at 1,000 feet above sea level. It may be necessary to reset it for the altitude of your locality. Each notch on the calibration mechanism represents 2,000 feet. If you do not know your altitude, consult your local U.S. Weather Bureau or Public Library. Use the chart below to determine how far to move the indicator lever.

After the HONEYWELL TRADELINE T6051A is installed and wired, operate it manually to make certain it is connected properly. The checkout process depends on the type of hookup and the controlled equipment.

For cooling control check: Turn the setting knob to move the indicator down the scale. This initiates a call for cooling, and the cooling equipment should respond.

For heating control check: Turn the setting knob to move the indicator up the scale. This initiates a call for heat, and the heating equipment should respond.

For heating/cooling control: Check both heating and cooling as described above.

For Series 60 control check: Cycle the equipment through the T6051A and make sure it functions as intended.

CAUTION: If the HONEYWELL TRADELINE T6051A thermostat is controlling a compressor, allow at least two minutes between “on” cycles to equalize the internal pressure. Rapid cycling might damage the compressor and overload the electrical circuit.

After any altitude adjustment is complete, replace the cover and set the cover screw with the set point knob. With the knob in place, move the set point indicator to the desired temperature setting. To lock the set point, simply remove the set point knob.
