What materials are required to replace the EPROM on the HONEYWELL S7760A?
The following materials are needed for the EPROM replacement:
1. Replacement EPROM, programmed with new Firmware.
2. #10 Tork Driver (preferred), or 3/16″ thin flat-blade screwdriver.
3. Extraction Tool: AMP PLCC Extraction Tool 821903-50 00, AMP 822154-1 00, or a small diameter probe/object (e.g., paper clip).
What is the step-by-step procedure for replacing the EPROM on the HONEYWELL S7760A?
Follow these steps to replace the EPROM:
1. Remove the Command Display from the Subbase.
2. Discharge static electricity from your body by touching a known earth ground.
3. Separate the back cover of the device by loosening the 4 screws located on the back four corners of the device. Set the back cover aside.
4. Remove the circuit board from the front cover assembly by evenly lifting the circuit board up to a maximum of one inch from the display board/cover assembly. Note: To lift the circuit board, a gentle rocking motion may be required to lift pins away from the socket. Leverage may also need to be applied at the point of pin connection.
5. Carefully fold the open circuit board away from the display board/cover assembly. Remove the ribbon connector from the base circuit board to disconnect the circuit board from the display board/cover assembly set.
6. Locate the EPROM in the socket, labeled S7760A, X.X.X Honeywell, © year. Using an EPROM extraction tool, remove the EPROM from the socket by inserting the tip of the extraction tool in the notches in the corners of the socket. Remove the EPROM with a rocking motion.
7. Making certain you are grounded, insert the new EPROM into the socket, orienting the notch in the chip with the notch in the socket. The EPROM may be inserted into the socket by placing it on top of the socket and pressing it into place with thumb pressure until it is seated. While pressing the EPROM into the socket, keep another finger on the rear of the circuit board behind the socket so the board is not stressed while pressing with the thumb.
8. Reassemble the Command Display.
9. Install the Command Display back on the subbase.
10. Check the operation of the device on the system.
11. Keep the old EPROM in a safe place until system operation has been confirmed.
12. Make a record of the HONEYWELL S7760A as being updated. It is a good idea to make a mark on the controller to that effect as well.
