Where should I install my HAIER BD-350 chest freezer?
For optimal performance of your HAIER BD-350, you should install it in a cool, well-aired, dry room. Strictly avoid placing it in areas with high ambient temperatures or in direct sunlight.
Installation near a heat source like a heating unit or oven is highly inappropriate, as it increases compressor work and power consumption. If installation near a heat source is unavoidable, you must fit a suitable insulation plate between the appliance and the heat source and observe the following minimum distances:
• From a gas or electric cooker: 3 cm
• From a radiator or oven: 5 cm
• From a wall, piece of furniture, or another appliance: 2 cm
Additionally, ensure the appliance is placed horizontally on a level base to ensure an unimpeded refrigerant circuit and optimum function. Never obstruct the ventilation grille if your model is equipped with one.
How long must I wait before switching on my new HAIER BD-350?
It is important to leave your new HAIER BD-350 standing in its final position for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilize and prevents operating problems from occurring.
How should I prepare my HAIER BD-350 for its first use?
Before using your HAIER BD-350 for the first time, you should clean it to remove the typical odor of a new appliance. Thoroughly clean the interior compartment with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda.
After cleaning, ensure the inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry before connecting the appliance to the power supply.
How do I start up my HAIER BD-350 for the first time?
Follow these steps to correctly start your HAIER BD-350:
1. Fully unpack the appliance.
2. Remove any polystyrene parts in the compressor chamber (if supplied).
3. Remove all documents and accessories from inside the appliance.
4. Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar, and dry it thoroughly with a cloth.
5. Close the appliance.
6. Insert the plug into the socket.
7. Switch on the appliance by turning the temperature control to the right. For the initial start, turn the controller fully to the right to the Max position. The green and red lights will turn on.
8. If equipped with a SUPER FREEZE SWITCH, turn it on (the yellow light will also turn on).
9. Do not open the appliance for about 4 hours, or as long as the red light is on. This allows the interior temperature to drop to the necessary level.
10. You can now fill the appliance with any amount of deep-frozen food (purchased ready-frozen goods).
11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH after 24 hours at the latest.
12. If you wish to freeze fresh, unfrozen food, refer to the instructions on freezing fresh food.
How do I adjust the temperature on my HAIER BD-350?
The temperature control on your HAIER BD-350 switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes. To adjust the setting, it is recommended to use a coin or a screwdriver.
The adjustable range is between:
• Min / minimum number (slight cooling)
• Max / maximum number (lowest temperature)
The temperature is factory preset for satisfactory food storage. You should adjust the temperature setting based on the ambient temperature, the quantity of stored food, and how frequently the appliance is opened. A medium setting is typically recommended.
What do the indicator lights on my HAIER BD-350 mean?
The indicator lights on your HAIER BD-350 provide important information about its status:
• GREEN (CONTROL): This light indicates that the appliance is connected to the mains power and is operating. The green light must always be on. It is an important indicator, especially during a power failure when other lights may stop working.
• RED (ALARM): This light indicates that the interior temperature is too high. It is normal for this light to come on during the initial start-up, after defrosting, or when filling the freezer with fresh food. It should turn off automatically when the temperature reaches approximately -15°C. If the red light stays on for more than 12 to 24 hours, there may be a serious problem and you should consult the troubleshooting guide.
• YELLOW (SUPER FREEZE): This light indicates that the SUPER FREEZE switch is on and the thermostat function is temporarily disabled. The compressor will cool continuously until the switch is turned off.
What is the correct procedure for freezing fresh food in my HAIER BD-350?
Follow these steps to correctly freeze fresh food in your HAIER BD-350:
1. Pack fresh products in portions suitable for your household. Label the portions clearly with the product name, weight, quantity, freezing date, and use-by date.
2. Place the fresh food in the pre-freezing compartment (if available) or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part.
3. Avoid placing fresh food in direct contact with already deep-frozen food to prevent the latter from defrosting.
4. Only add a quantity of fresh food that is within the freezing capacity of your appliance (check the rating plate for XX kg/24h) within a 24-hour period.
5. If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH.
6. After 24 hours, move the now deep-frozen goods from the bottom to a hanging basket to make space for freezing more fresh food.
7. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (the yellow light will go off).
8. Set the temperature control according to the filling capacity.

To save energy when operating your HAIER BD-350 in a normal ambient temperature (+18°C to +22°C), you should set the temperature control according to the filling capacity as follows:
| Capacity | Stacking mark | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Full | upper | 12.00 h |
| Half full | medium | 10.00 h |
| 1/4 or less | lower | 08.00 h |
How do I defrost my HAIER BD-350?
Your HAIER BD-350 should be defrosted once or twice a year under normal conditions. Layers of ice and frost act as insulation and prevent coldness from being released, so they must be removed periodically.
Danger Warnings: Never use electrical appliances like hair dryers or devices with a naked flame (e.g., candles) to defrost the chest freezer. The plastic interior can melt, and escaping gas can be ignited.
Proceed as follows:
1. Provide a suitable non-metallic container, like a plastic container or wash-basket.
2. Make absolutely sure that you remove the plug from the power socket.
3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (it is advisable to use gloves).
4. Remove all frozen food from the freezer. Roll it firmly in newspaper, place it in the container, and put the container in a cool, dry room.
5. Cover the container all around with a thick blanket.
6. Lift the divider (if equipped) upwards out of the guide-rail of the freezer.
7. Use the divider as a defrosting dish and push it under the side of the freezer where the defrosting water drain-plug is located.
8. Pull the plug (if provided) out of the freezer bottom.
9. Use a plastic or wood scraper to carefully scrape the thickest ice from the freezer inside and put it into the kitchen sink to melt.
10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.
11. For freezers without a drain-plug, continuously wipe up the water with a sponge.
12. Thoroughly clean the inside compartment. Rinse it with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.
13. Wipe the freezer with an absorbent cloth until it is thoroughly dry and allow it to air for about 3 to 4 minutes.
14. Replace the drain-plug (if provided).
15. Empty the defrosting water dish (if provided) and slide it back as a divider into the guide rails of the freezer.
16. Close the chest lid and plug it back into the socket.
17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting (green and red lamps will go on) and switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided) (the yellow lamp will also light up).
18. Now refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top. This entire process (steps 1-17) should be completed within a maximum of two hours to prevent food from defrosting.
19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a setting suitable for the filling capacity.
20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided) after about 8 to 12 hours, or at the latest, after 24 hours (the yellow light will go off).
How do I clean my HAIER BD-350?
Before any cleaning, always remove the power plug.
• External Appearance: Clean now and again with furniture polish or another enamel-protecting product. Never use these products on the inside.
• Lid Seal: Clean the seal now and again with warm water only. Do not use any cleaning products on it.
• Interior: Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar. Then, rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly.
• Condenser: If your appliance has a condenser in the rear inside, remove dirt and dust from time to time with a light brush or duster. Dust and dirt impede heat release and increase energy consumption.
What should I do if my HAIER BD-350 is not running?
If your HAIER BD-350 has no function (is not running), check the following possible causes and remedies:
• Power Plug: Is the plug in good condition and properly plugged into the socket?
• Power Socket: Is the socket under current? You can test this by connecting a small appliance, such as a hand-mixer, to see if it works.
In the event of a power failure, the insulation of the appliance walls provides 10 to 12 hours of storage time for the frozen food. If the problem will take longer to eliminate, you should take prompt action and, if necessary, move the frozen food to another freezer.
Why is my HAIER BD-350 not cooling enough, taking too long to freeze, or running too often?
If your HAIER BD-350 is not cooling sufficiently, the freezing process is too long, or the compressor is operating too often, check these possible causes:
• Initial Start-up: Did the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before being switched on to allow the refrigerant circuit to stabilize? If not, unplug it, lift it briefly, and place it back down. Wait 2 hours before plugging it in again, and do not open it for another 12 hours or until the red light goes off.
• Lid Seal: The lid may not be closing properly. Test the seal by placing a piece of paper between the seal and the edge of the chest and closing the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out from any side. If it can be pulled out easily, contact your after-sales service.
• Ice Formation: Heavy ice formation on the inner walls can impede cooling. Defrost the appliance.
• Location: The appliance may be exposed to direct sunlight or installed too close to a heat source (oven, radiator). Protect it from direct sunlight and check the distance to heat sources.
• Overfilling: The amount of food added may not correspond with the freezing capacity (see rating plate), or you may have filled it with food that was too warm.
What are the important safety warnings for using the HAIER BD-350?
Please observe the following important safety warnings when using your HAIER BD-350:
• Ventilation: Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.
• Defrosting: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
• Refrigerant Circuit: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. Interventions on the cooling system must be carried out by professional and authorized personnel only. Escaping refrigerant can injure your eyes.
• Electrical Appliances: Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.
• Power Cable: If the power cable is damaged, an approved cable provided by a manufacturer or a service agent must be used for replacement.
• Storage: Do not store any bottles containing liquids, as liquid expands when frozen and the bottle can explode. Never keep containers with explosive substances (like gas lighters, petrol, ether) in the freezer.
• Handling Frozen Food: Deep-frozen ice cream and ice lollies should be eaten only a few minutes after being taken from the freezer to avoid injury to lips and tongue (danger of skin detachment). For the same reason, avoid touching the inner walls with wet hands.
Is it normal for my HAIER BD-350 to make noise and for the compressor to not run continuously?
Yes, this is normal. The compressor (motor) of your HAIER BD-350 must not operate continuously. It is controlled by the thermostat and switches on automatically when the set temperature is exceeded, and switches off when the correct temperature is reached again.
Noise can be heard in every compressor-cooling system when it is switched on. This noise is produced by the motor in the compressor and by the refrigerant flowing in the cooling system circuit. These noises are normal and do not indicate any functional trouble.
