Before installing, operating, or servicing the GLP IMPRESSION X5, you must follow these general safety precautions:

• Read the user documentation carefully and familiarize yourself with all safety precautions.

• Respect all warnings and directions given in the documentation and on the fixture.

• Check that you have the latest version of the manual and that it corresponds to the software version installed in the fixture.

• Make all user documentation available to all installers and operators, and save it for future reference.

• Use the fixture only as directed in the manual.

• Refer all repairs and service operations not described in the manual to a technician authorized by GLP.

• The LED light source in the GLP IMPRESSION X5 is not user-replaceable.

• Read and follow the user documentation for all additional equipment.

To ensure electrical safety when using the GLP IMPRESSION X5, adhere to the following guidelines:

• Do not allow the fixture to come into contact with water or moisture.

• Use only an AC mains power source that complies with local codes and has both overload and ground-fault protection.

• Ensure the fixture is electrically connected to ground (earth).

• Disconnect the fixture from AC mains power before any installation or maintenance, and when it is not in use.

• Immediately disconnect power if any component is damaged, defective, or shows signs of overheating. Do not reapply power until it has been repaired by an authorized technician.

• Check that all power distribution equipment, cables, and connectors are in perfect condition and rated for the electrical requirements of all connected devices.

• Use only a Neutrik powerCON TRUE1 cable connector for AC mains power input. If the connector is not in perfect condition, replace it.

• Use a power cable that is minimum 14 AWG or 1.5 mm², minimum 16 A-rated, and temperature-rated for the application.

• Before replacing the main fuse, disconnect the fixture from power. Replace the fuse with one of the specified type only.

To ensure fire safety and protect from burns while operating the GLP IMPRESSION X5, follow these precautions:

• Do not operate the fixture if the ambient temperature exceeds 45° C (115° F).

• Be aware that the fixture’s surface can reach up to 100° C (212° F). Avoid contact and allow the fixture to cool for at least 30 minutes before handling.

• Keep the fixture well away from flammable materials.

• Do not illuminate surfaces within 1 meter (40 in.) of the fixture.

• Keep all combustible materials (e.g., fabric, wood, paper) at least 10 cm (4 in.) away from the fixture.

• Ensure free and unobstructed airflow around the fixture, with a minimum clearance of 30 cm (12 in.) around fans and air vents.

• Do not place any optical components other than official GLP impression X5 accessories on the front of the fixture.

• Do not stick filters or other materials onto the fixture or block the light output in any way.

• Do not expose the front of the fixture to sunlight or any other intense light source, as its optical components can focus rays and create a fire risk.

The GLP IMPRESSION X5 is classified as a Risk Group 2 lighting fixture. To protect your eyes, please follow these safety measures:

• Do not stare directly into the light output from the fixture, as the emitted radiation may be hazardous and harmful to the eyes.

• Do not look at the fixture’s light output with optical instruments or any device that may concentrate the light.

• Ensure that people near the fixture are not looking directly into the light output when it lights up suddenly, which can occur when power is applied or a DMX signal is received.

• Provide well-lit conditions to reduce the pupil diameter of anyone working on or near the fixture.

Flashing light can be hazardous. Please observe the following strobe safety guidelines:

• Be aware that flashing light, particularly at 5-30 Hz, may cause seizures in persons with photosensitive epilepsy. Do not use strobe effects for extended periods.

• Comply with local regulations on the use of strobe lighting and notify the public in advance with highly visible warning signs when strobe effects are used.

• If a seizure occurs, stop using strobe effects and seek professional medical help. Note the time the seizure starts and finishes. Call for emergency medical help if the seizure lasts more than five minutes, it is the person’s first seizure, or if the person is injured. While waiting for help, protect the person from injury, lay them on their side with their head supported, and loosen any tight clothing. Do not restrict their movements or put anything in their mouth.

To install the GLP IMPRESSION X5 safely and prevent personal injury, follow these rules:

• The fixture is heavy. Apply the tilt lock and carry the fixture by holding the yoke.

• Installation must be performed by qualified personnel only, in accordance with applicable regulations.

• Ensure the supporting structure and hardware can hold at least ten times the weight of the fixture and all accessories.

• Fasten the fixture only as directed in the manual using approved and rated hardware.

• For any orientation other than hanging vertically, you must use the GLP impression X5 Omega Bracket with Handles accessory and two rigging clamps to balance the fixture’s weight.

• Check that all installation hardware is in perfect condition. Fasteners must be steel grade 8.8 or better, nuts must be self-locking, and rigging clamps must be half-coupler type that completely encircle the truss chord.

• If using an M10 bolt in the baseplate, it must protrude between 10 mm and 15 mm into the base.

• Allow a minimum center-to-center distance of 465 mm (18.3 in.) between fixtures.

• Always install a secondary attachment, such as an approved safety cable, that can hold ten times the fixture’s weight if the primary attachment fails.

• Ensure the installation can withstand forces like wind and vibration. Take down the installation if weather conditions could destabilize it.

• Check that all covers and rigging hardware are secure before use. Do not operate with missing or damaged parts.

• Restrict access below the work area and always work from a stable platform.

• If the fixture becomes damaged, stop using it immediately and disconnect it from power.

• Do not modify the fixture in any way not described in its user documentation and install genuine GLP parts only.

To avoid damage that is not covered by the product warranty, follow these precautions:

• Before powering on, check that the head is unlocked and free of obstacles throughout its full range of movement.

• Do not drop the fixture or expose it to mechanical stress.

• Protect the LCD display and control panel from shocks.

• Do not lift or carry the fixture by its head. Always carry it by the yoke with the tilt lock applied.

• Do not expose the fixture to heat from other lighting fixtures.

• Clean optical components only as directed. Do not use oils, solvents, or other chemicals that can damage lens coatings.

• Use only original spare parts and do not make any structural modifications to the fixture.

Strong light can cause internal damage to the GLP IMPRESSION X5, such as melting components or starting an internal fire, within seconds. This can happen whether the fixture is powered on or off. To avoid this damage:

• Do not expose the front of the fixture to sunlight or any other strong light source.

• During outdoor applications in daylight, ensure the front face of the fixture is shielded or points away from the sun, even when the fixture is not in use.

• Do not aim other high-powered beam lights directly at the fixture.

To properly transport and store the GLP IMPRESSION X5:

• Transport the fixture in a flightcase or its original packaging to protect it from shocks.

• Before placing the fixture in its flightcase, release the tilt lock and slide the zoom car fully into the head. Ensure the protective liner in the flightcase will hold the head securely.

• Store the fixture in a dry location when not in use.

To carry the GLP IMPRESSION X5, apply the tilt lock and lift the fixture by the yoke. For more convenient handling, you can install an optional X5 Omega Bracket with Handles on the baseplate and use that for carrying.

To remove the fixture from a flightcase for installation on a truss, fasten two omega brackets with handles to the base and lift the fixture straight up and out.

To remove the fixture from a flightcase for placement on a surface, fasten the supplied floor stand to the base, lift the fixture out, turn it upside down, and place it onto the surface.

To identify the front of the GLP IMPRESSION X5, look at the safety attachment points in the fixture’s baseplate. With the pan centered at 0°:

• The attachment point colored black is on the front (stage side) of the fixture.

• The attachment point colored grey is on the back of the fixture.

In any location where the GLP IMPRESSION X5 could cause injury or damage if it falls, you must secure it with an approved safety cable. Follow these steps:

1. Pass the safety cable through one of the two safety attachment eyelets located in the base of the fixture. Do not attach the safety cable to any part of a floor stand or Omega Bracket if one is installed.

2. Pass the safety cable through or around a secure anchoring point, such as a rigging truss, and take up as much slack as possible.

3. Lock the safety cable closed and check that it will hold the fixture safely if the primary attachment fails.

To install the GLP IMPRESSION X5 standing upright on a stable horizontal surface only, follow these steps:

1. Line up the camlock pins in the supplied X5 Tripod floor stand with the two camlock fastener points in the fixture’s baseplate. Insert the pins fully and turn their handles 90° clockwise to lock.

2. To prevent the fixture from falling over during sudden head movements, immobilize it using a ratchet strap (or straps) passed through the slots in the X5 Tripod and fastened to suitable anchoring points. Remove slack from the straps, but do not overtighten them.

3. Ensure the head will not collide with any other object when it moves through its full pan and tilt ranges.

To mount the GLP IMPRESSION X5 on a rigging truss at any angle other than with the head hanging vertically downwards, you must use the X5 Omega Bracket with Handles mounting plate, which is available as an accessory. Follow these steps:

1. Install two suitable half-coupler type rigging clamps on the Omega Bracket.

2. Fasten the Omega Bracket to the fixture’s baseplate by inserting its camlock fasteners into the receptacles in the base and turning the fastener handles a full 90° to lock them.

3. Fasten the rigging clamps securely around a truss chord.

4. Secure the fixture with a safety cable. Fasten the safety cable to one of the attachment points in the fixture base, not to the Omega Bracket.

5. Make sure that the head will not collide with another fixture or any other object when it moves through its full pan and tilt ranges.

To suspend the GLP IMPRESSION X5 from a rigging truss with the head hanging vertically downwards using a rigging clamp bolted directly to the fixture, follow these steps:

1. Obtain a suitable half-coupler type rigging clamp and an M10 grade 8.8 steel bolt. Check that the bolt will protrude a minimum of 10 mm and a maximum of 15 mm into the fixture base when tightened.

2. Fasten the bolt through the clamp and into the M10 threaded hole in the fixture’s baseplate so the clamp is held securely.

3. Fasten the rigging clamp securely around a rigging truss chord or similar bar.

4. Secure the fixture against clamp failure with a safety cable attached to the fixture’s base.

5. Make sure the head will not collide with other objects or fixtures.

The GLP IMPRESSION X5 does not have an ON/OFF switch and powers on as soon as power is applied. Before connecting, ensure the head is unlocked and will not collide with anything. To connect the fixture to power:

1. Check that the Neutrik powerCON TRUE1 connector on the power cable is in perfect condition.

2. Line up the keys in the connector with the keyways in the MAINS IN socket on the fixture.

3. Insert the connector into the socket. Do not use force. If you feel resistance, remove the connector and check the key alignment before trying again.

4. Twist the connector fully clockwise to lock it. You should hear a ‘click’ indicating it is locked.

5. Release the tilt lock, check clearance around the head, and ensure nobody is looking at the fixture. Then apply power to the power input cable.

When installing a power plug on the supplied power cable for the GLP IMPRESSION X5, respect the color coding used in the wiring system. The standard US and EU systems use the following color codes:

The GLP IMPRESSION X5 uses 5-pin XLR connectors for DMX IN and THRU connections. The standard DMX pinout is as follows:

• Pin 1 = Ground

• Pin 2 = Negative / data cold

• Pin 3 = Positive / data hot

• Pins 4 and 5 are not used.

Regular maintenance is essential for the best performance and lifetime of your GLP IMPRESSION X5. The following schedule is suggested, but intervals should be adjusted based on the operating environment.

To get the best performance and lifetime from the GLP IMPRESSION X5, inspect it regularly and clean it as soon as you see signs of dirt buildup. Use the following guidelines:

• Disconnect the fixture from power and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

• Do not use solvents, abrasives, or any other aggressive product to clean the fixture.

• Use a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush to remove dust from surfaces and air vents. Prevent the cooling fan blades from spinning while you vacuum them.

• Do not let optical components come into contact with oil or grease. Wear clean, dry, lint-free gloves when touching them.

• Clean glass components by wiping gently with alcohol wipes or a soft, clean, lint-free cloth moistened with a weak detergent solution. Apply the solution to the cloth, not the surface.

• Dry the fixture with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth or low-pressure compressed air before reapplying power.

If the GLP IMPRESSION X5 appears completely shut down even though power is applied, the main fuse may have blown. The main fuse is located in a fuseholder in the base.

To replace it, first disconnect the fixture from power. You can then open the fuseholder with a flat-headed screwdriver. Replace the fuse only with another fuse of the exact same type and rating.

If the fuse blows repeatedly, disconnect the fixture from power and contact GLP for service and repair.
