What are the general specifications of the EXTRON PVT HD?

The EXTRON PVT HD is a 2-gang AV wallplate for PlenumVault and WallVault systems that support the PVS 407D switcher. It passes HDMI/DVI video with analog stereo audio signals to a PVS 407D PoleVault switcher up to 150 feet away over shielded twisted pair (XTP DTP 24) cable. The EXTRON PVT HD has two HDMI connectors, two audio input jacks, and one IR connector.

What devices is the EXTRON PVT HD compatible with?

The EXTRON PVT HD is compatible with only the PVS 407D. It is not compatible with the PVS 405D or other XTP/DTP devices.

What are the connection ports labeled on the rear panel of the EXTRON PVT HD as shown in Figure 1?

  • A: Audio inputs
  • B: IR output
  • C: HDMI inputs
  • D: PVT output

What are the recommended notes for installing the wallplate for the EXTRON PVT HD?

Notes regarding installation include:

  • Install the wallplate directly into the wall using the supplied mud ring or a UL Listed 2-gang junction box (not supplied) such as a RACO 232, following the steps below.
  • If installing a junction box, allow enough depth for the wallplate and cables. Take into consideration the bend radius of the cable, providing suitable strain relief and maintaining the cable bend. Do not bend the cables 90 degrees.
  • Conduit and conduit adapters should be used.

What are the steps for installing the EXTRON PVT HD using a mud ring or junction box?

The steps for installation are as follows:

1. Using the mud ring or a junction box as a guide, mark the edges and cut out the material within the marked area of the mounting location.

2. Perform one of the following:

  • Insert the mud ring into the opening, rotate the locking arms, and secure it with the supplied screws.
  • Insert the wall box and secure it with nails or screws.

3. Run the XTP DTP 24 cable from the PVS 407D switcher towards the EXTRON PVT HD location from behind the wall.

4. Thread the cable through the mud ring or wall box.

5. Provide strain relief to the cable, and maintain optimum cable bend radius.

6. Plug XTP DTP 24 cable from the PVS 407D switcher into the RJ-45 port labeled PVT OUT on the rear of the wallplate (see Figure 1).

7. Mount the cabled device into the mud ring or wall box, and attach the supplied faceplate.

8. Connect the HDMI sources to the front panel HDMI inputs (C).

9. Connect audio sources to the audio input tip-ring-sleeve jacks (A).

10. If desired, connect the IR emitter to the front panel 2-pole captive screw connector (B). Wire the connector so that ground wire goes to the pin marked G, and the signal wire to the pin marked S (see the image below).

What cabling is recommended for the EXTRON PVT HD system?

Notes regarding cabling for the EXTRON PVT HD:

  • Extron highly recommends shielded twisted pair (STP) cabling with shielded RJ-45 plugs.
  • The Extron XTP DTP 24 STP cable supplied within the system kit is required for optimal performance, and is terminated to TIA 568B standard.

What is the TIA/EIA T 568B pinout for the RJ-45 connector on the EXTRON PVT HD?

The TIA/EIA T 568B pinout for the RJ-45 Connector is as follows:

Pin Wire color
1 White-orange
2 Orange
3 White-green
4 Blue
5 White-blue
6 Green
7 White-brown
8 Brown

How should the IR emitter be wired to the 2-pole captive screw connector on the EXTRON PVT HD?

When wiring the IR emitter to the 2-pole captive screw connector on the EXTRON PVT HD:

  • The ground wire goes to the pin marked G.
  • The signal wire goes to the pin marked S.

The maximum wire size for the captive screw is 3/16″ (5 mm).

Where should the IR emitter be placed when using the EXTRON PVT HD?

Place the IR emitter near or in front of the IR pickup sensor on the source device.

What are the components of an audio connector when making connections to the EXTRON PVT HD?

When making connections for the transmitter from existing audio cables to the EXTRON PVT HD:

A mono audio connector consists of the tip and sleeve.

A stereo audio connector consists of the tip, ring, and sleeve.
