The EPSON EB-X500 projector supports a variety of functions. Here is a summary of its key features:

The front of your EPSON EB-X500 projector includes the following parts:

Air exhaust vent: Exhausts air used to cool the projector internally. Hot air comes from this vent, so do not place your hands or face near it, or place objects that could be damaged by heat near it.

A/V Mute slide lever: Slide this knob to open and close the lens cover.

Foot release lever: Press this to extend and retract the front adjustable foot.

Lens cover: Closing this during projection hides the image and sound.

Front adjustable foot: Extend this foot to adjust the vertical position of the image when the projector is on a desk.

Lens: Images are projected from here.

Remote receiver: Receives signals from the remote control.

Horizontal keystone slider: Corrects horizontal distortion in the projected image.

Air intake vent (air filter): Takes in air to cool the projector internally.

Air filter cover: Open to access the air filter.

The rear panel of your EPSON EB-X500 projector includes various ports for connecting devices:

Power inlet: Connects the power cord to the projector.

Video port: Inputs composite video signals from video sources.

L-Audio-R ports: Inputs audio from equipment connected to the Video port.

Speaker: Outputs audio.

The base of your EPSON EB-X500 has the following features:

Ceiling mount fixing points (three points): Attach the optional ceiling mount here when suspending the projector from a ceiling.

Security cable attachment point: Pass a commercially available wire lock through here to secure it. You can also attach an optional safety wire here to prevent the projector from falling.

Rear feet: Turn to extend and retract the feet to adjust the horizontal tilt.

Front adjustable foot: When the projector is on a desk, extend the foot to adjust the position of the image.

The control panel on your EPSON EB-X500 allows you to operate the projector directly. Here are the functions of its buttons:

[Source Search] button: Switches to the next input source.

[Enter] button: Enters the current selection and moves to the next level in the menus. It also optimizes Tracking, Sync., and Position for analog RGB signals.

Keystone adjustment buttons and arrow buttons: Displays the Keystone screen to correct distortion. Selects menu items when the menu is displayed.

[Esc] button: Stops the current function or moves back to the previous menu level.

Volume buttons and arrow buttons: Increase or decrease the volume. Corrects horizontal keystone distortion. Selects menu items.

[Menu] button: Displays and closes the projector’s menu.

[Home] button: Displays and closes the Home screen.

Power button: Turns the projector on or off.

Indicators (Status, Lamp, Temp): Indicates the projector’s status.

The remote control for your EPSON EB-X500 provides comprehensive control over its functions. Below is a list of the buttons and their operations:

Power button: Turns the projector on or off.

[HDMI] button: Switches the image source to the HDMI port.

[Computer] button: Switches the image source to the Computer port.

Numeric buttons: Enters numbers in the projector’s menu while holding down the [Num] button.

[Auto] button: Optimizes Tracking, Sync., and Position for an analog RGB signal.

[Num] button: Hold down to enter numbers using the numeric buttons.

[Menu] button: Displays and closes the projector’s menu.

Arrow buttons: Selects menu items.

[Enter] button: Enters the current selection and moves to the next menu level.

[User] button: Performs settings assigned in the User Button setting in the Settings menu.

[Color Mode] button: Changes the color mode.

[Aspect] button: Changes the aspect mode.

[E-Zoom] +/- buttons: Resizes the projected image.

Remote control light emitting area: Outputs remote control signals.

To get the best image quality from your EPSON EB-X500, follow these placement guidelines:

1. Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface.

2. Ensure there is plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not block the vents.

3. Position the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot place it squarely, use the keystone correction features to adjust the image shape.

4. The distance from the projector to the screen determines the image size. Refer to the “Screen Size and Projection Distance” tables in the appendix for specific distances for your desired image size.

You can connect a computer to your EPSON EB-X500 using a VGA, USB, or HDMI cable.

For VGA Video and Audio:

1. Connect one end of a VGA computer cable to your computer’s monitor port.

2. Connect the other end to the Computer port on the projector.

3. Tighten the screws on the VGA connector.

4. For audio, connect a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable from your computer’s headphone or audio-out jack to the corresponding Audio port on the projector.

For USB Video and Audio (USB Display):

1. Connect a USB cable to the projector’s USB-B port.

2. Connect the other end to an available USB port on your computer.

3. Turn on the projector and your computer.

4. The first time you connect, you will be prompted to install the Epson USB Display software. Follow the on-screen instructions.

5. The projector will display the image from your computer’s desktop and output sound.

For HDMI Video and Audio:

1. Connect an HDMI cable to your computer’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end to the projector’s HDMI port.

You can connect video devices to your EPSON EB-X500 using either an HDMI or a composite video connection.

Connecting an HDMI Video Source:

1. Make sure the video source is turned off.

2. Connect an HDMI cable to your video source’s HDMI output port.

3. Connect the other end to the projector’s HDMI port.

Connecting a Composite Video Source:

1. Connect the cable with the yellow connector to your video source’s yellow video output port.

2. Connect the other end to the projector’s Video port.

3. For audio, connect the red and white audio connectors to your video source’s audio-out ports.

4. Connect the other end to the projector’s L-Audio-R ports.

To operate your EPSON EB-X500 with the remote control:

1. Install Batteries: The remote uses two AA batteries. Remove the battery cover, insert the batteries according to the + and – markings, and replace the cover.

2. Aim and Operate: Aim the remote control at one of the projector’s receivers (front or rear). The effective range is approximately 6 meters (about 20 feet).

3. Angle: You can operate the remote from an angle of up to 30° to the left or right of the projector, and up to 15° above or below.

Avoid using the remote in bright fluorescent light or direct sunlight, as it may interfere with the signal.

Turning On the Projector:

1. Connect the power cord to the projector’s power inlet and plug it into an electrical outlet. The power indicator will turn blue (standby mode).

2. Press the power button on the control panel or the remote control.

3. The projector will beep, and the status indicator will flash blue as it warms up. Once warmed up, the status indicator stops flashing and turns solid blue.

4. Open the projector’s lens cover by sliding the A/V Mute slide lever.

Turning Off the Projector:

1. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control.

2. A shutdown confirmation screen will appear. Press the power button again to confirm. (To cancel, press any other button).

3. The projected image will disappear, the projector will beep twice, and the status indicator will turn off.

4. You can unplug the power cord immediately thanks to Epson’s Instant Off technology.

5. Close the lens cover.

You may need to change the projection mode on your EPSON EB-X500 depending on how it is installed so that the image is oriented correctly. The modes are:

Front: For projecting from a table in front of the screen.

Front/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom for ceiling-mounted projection in front of the screen.

Rear: Flips the image horizontally for projecting from behind a translucent screen.

Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom and horizontally for ceiling-mounted projection behind a translucent screen.

To change the projection mode using the menus:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the [Menu] button.

3. Select the Extended menu and press [Enter].

4. Select Projection and press [Enter].

5. Select the desired projection mode and press [Enter].

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit.

If your projected image is trapezoidal or unevenly rectangular, you can correct its shape using several features on your EPSON EB-X500.

Auto V-Keystone: When the projector is moved or tilted, this feature automatically corrects vertical keystone distortion. It works for projection angles of about 30° up or down.

Horizontal Keystone Slider: Use the slider on top of the projector to correct the shape of an image that is an uneven horizontal rectangle, for example when the projector is placed to the side of the screen. It is effective for angles up to 30° right or left.

Keystone Buttons:

1. Press one of the keystone adjustment buttons on the control panel to display the Keystone adjustment screen.

2. Press the keystone buttons to adjust the vertical and horizontal shape of the image.

Quick Corner: For more precise adjustments, you can use the Quick Corner setting to correct the shape and size of an unevenly rectangular image.

1. Press the [Menu] button.

2. Select the Settings menu and press [Enter].

3. Select Keystone and press [Enter].

4. Select Quick Corner and press [Enter].

5. Use the arrow buttons to select a corner of the image you want to adjust and press [Enter].

6. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the shape as necessary. Repeat for other corners.

7. When finished, press [Esc].

You can adjust the size and focus of the projected image on your EPSON EB-X500 using the rings on the lens.

To Resize the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the zoom ring on the projector to enlarge or reduce the image size.

To Focus the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the focus ring on the projector until the image is sharp and clear.

You can change the aspect ratio (the width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image on your EPSON EB-X500. This is useful for fitting certain video input sources to your screen.

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Aspect] button on the remote control.

3. The shape and size of the image will change, and the name of the new aspect ratio will appear on the screen.

4. To cycle through the available aspect ratios, press the [Aspect] button repeatedly.

For projectors with XGA resolution like the EB-X500, available aspect modes typically include:

Auto: Automatically sets the aspect ratio according to the input signal.

Normal: Displays images using the full projection area while maintaining the aspect ratio of the image.

4:3: Converts the aspect ratio of the image to 4:3.

16:9: Converts the aspect ratio of the image to 16:9.

The PC Free feature on your EPSON EB-X500 allows you to display presentations directly from a USB storage device without a computer.

Supported File Types:

Image: .jpg, .bmp, .gif, .png (with resolution limits)

Movie: .avi (Motion JPEG, AVI 1.0, with resolution and size limits)

For best results, use media formatted in FAT16/32.

To Start a Slide Show or Movie:

1. Connect your USB device to the projector’s USB-A port.

2. Press the [USB] button on the remote control. The PC Free file list screen is displayed.

3. Use the arrow buttons to locate your files. Highlight a folder and press [Enter] to open it.

4. To display an individual image or play a movie, highlight the file and press [Enter].

5. To start a slide show of all images in a folder, highlight the “Slideshow” option at the bottom of the screen and press [Enter].

6. While projecting an image, you can use the up/down arrows to rotate it and the left/right arrows to move to the next or previous image.

7. To stop the display, press the [Esc] button.

You can temporarily shut off the image and sound on your EPSON EB-X500, which is useful for redirecting your audience’s attention during a presentation. This feature is called A/V Mute.

1. Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to temporarily stop the projection and mute any sound.

2. The screen will go blank (or display a custom logo if you have set one up), but the projector’s lamp remains on.

3. To turn the image and sound back on, press the [A/V Mute] button again.

You can also use the A/V Mute slide lever on the projector to achieve the same result by closing the lens cover.

To use your EPSON EB-X500 for wireless projection, you must first install the optional Epson 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN module (ELPAP11).

Installing the Wireless LAN Module:

1. Use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the wireless LAN module cover.

2. Connect the wireless LAN module to the projector’s USB-A port.

3. Attach the wireless LAN module cover and secure it with the screw.

Configuring Wireless Network Settings Manually:

1. Press the [Menu] button, select the Network menu, and press [Enter].

2. Set Wireless LAN Power to On.

3. Select Network Configuration and press [Enter].

4. In the Basic menu, you can set options like the Projector Name.

5. Select the Wireless LAN menu and press [Enter].

6. Select the Connection Mode. Choose ‘Quick’ to connect devices directly to the projector, or ‘Advanced’ to connect the projector to a wireless network access point.

7. If using Advanced mode, select Search Access Point to find and connect to your network.

8. Configure IP Settings (DHCP or manual) and Security settings (e.g., WPA2-PSK) to match your network.

9. When finished, select Complete and follow the on-screen instructions to save your settings.

After setup, you can use software like Epson iProjection to project from your computer or mobile device.

You can adjust a wide range of settings on your EPSON EB-X500 through its on-screen menu system, which is accessed by pressing the [Menu] button. The main menu categories are:

Image: Adjusts settings for image quality, such as Color Mode, Brightness, Contrast, Color Saturation, and Sharpness.

Signal: Customizes settings for the input signal, including Aspect Ratio, Resolution, and advanced settings for video signals.

Settings: Configures various projector features like Keystone correction, E-Zoom, Lock Setting, and the User Button function.

Extended: Customizes miscellaneous projector functions such as Projection mode, Display options (e.g., startup screen, messages), Operation settings, and Language.

Network: Views network information and configures settings for controlling the projector over a network (requires optional wireless LAN module).

ECO: Customizes projector functions to save power, such as Power Consumption mode, Sleep Mode, and various timers.

Info: Displays information about the projector and input sources, including lamp hours, serial number, and network status.

Reset: Resets projector settings to their default values.

Regular maintenance will keep your EPSON EB-X500 working at its best. Before cleaning, always turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

Cleaning the Lens:

To remove dust or smudges, gently wipe the lens with lens-cleaning paper. For stubborn smudges, moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with lens cleaner and gently wipe the lens. Do not spray liquid directly on the lens.

Cleaning the Projector Case:

Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap.

Cleaning the Air Filter and Vents:

It is important to clean the air filter and vents to prevent overheating. A message will appear when the filter needs cleaning.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug it.

2. Use a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush to gently remove dust from the air filter and vents.

3. If dust is difficult to remove or the filter is damaged, you should replace it (model ELPAF32).

You should replace the lamp (model ELPLP97) in your EPSON EB-X500 when the projected image gets darker, a lamp replacement message appears, or the lamp indicator flashes orange.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Allow the lamp to cool down for at least one hour to avoid injury.

3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover, then slide the cover out and lift it off.

4. Loosen the two screws securing the lamp to the projector. These screws will not come all the way out.

5. Grip the raised section of the lamp and carefully pull it straight out.

6. Gently insert the new lamp. If it does not fit easily, make sure it is facing the right way. Do not touch the glass on the lamp assembly.

7. Push the lamp in firmly and tighten the two screws to secure it.

8. Replace the lamp cover and tighten its screw.

Resetting the Lamp Timer:

After replacing the lamp, you must reset the lamp timer.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button, select the Reset menu, and press [Enter].

3. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].

4. A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Yes and press [Enter].

If no image is being projected from your EPSON EB-X500, try the following solutions:

1. Make sure the lens cover is fully open.

2. Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to ensure the image was not temporarily turned off.

3. Check that all cables are securely connected to both the projector and the video source.

4. Make sure the projector and the connected video source are both turned on.

5. Press the projector’s power button to wake it from standby or sleep mode.

6. Press the [Source Search] button on the control panel or remote to detect the input signal.

7. Adjust the Brightness setting in the projector’s Image menu.

8. Check the Power Consumption setting in the ECO menu; try setting it to High.

9. If the projector’s control panel buttons are not responding, they may be locked. Use the remote control or unlock the buttons in the Settings menu.

If the projected image is fuzzy or blurry, try these solutions:

1. Adjust the image focus by rotating the focus ring on the projector lens until the image is sharp.

2. Make sure the projector is positioned close enough to the screen, within the recommended projection distance.

3. Position the projector so that the keystone adjustment angle is not too wide, as excessive correction can reduce image quality. Try to place the projector squarely in front of the screen.

4. Clean the projector lens if it is dirty or smudged.

5. If you are projecting from a computer via a VGA cable, press the [Auto] button on the remote control to automatically adjust the tracking and sync.

6. Adjust the Sharpness setting in the projector’s Image menu.

If your EPSON EB-X500 projector is not responding to the remote control, try the following solutions:

1. Check the batteries in the remote. Make sure they are installed correctly and have power. Replace them if necessary.

2. Make sure you are using the remote control within its reception range (about 6 meters) and angle.

3. Ensure the projector is not in the process of warming up or shutting down.

4. Strong fluorescent lights, direct sunlight, or signals from other infrared devices can interfere with the remote. Dim the lights or move the projector away from the source of interference.

5. Check the Remote Receiver setting in the projector’s Settings menu to make sure the receivers are enabled.
