The procedure for mounting the blade assemblies on the EMERSON HF1160WW02 motor assembly during ceiling fan assembly is as follows:

CAUTION: The blade assemblies must be mounted on the motor assembly so that the “This Side Up” label is visible at the top of the motor (Figure 1).

Install one non-reversible blade assembly on the top of the motor assembly using two 1/4-20 x 1/2″ Phillips hex head screws, two split lockwashers and two flat washers (supplied) (Figure 2).

Repeat this procedure for the remaining two blade assemblies.

Tighten each blade screw to secure each blade assembly to the motor housing.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not bend the blade flanges when installing the blades, balancing the blades, or cleaning the fan. Do not insert foreign objects between rotating fan blades.

To secure the motor cover to the motor assembly for the EMERSON HF1160WW02 during ceiling fan assembly:

Separate, untwist and unkink the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable, then route them through the center hole in the motor cover.

Align the two holes in the motor cover with the threaded holes in the motor yoke.

Secure the motor cover to the motor assembly by installing two #8-32 x 1/4″ pan head screws and two #8 external tooth lockwashers (supplied) (Figure 4).

The process for seating the downrod in the motor yoke for the EMERSON HF1160WW02 during ceiling fan assembly is as follows:

Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the center hole in the ceiling cover and position the ceiling cover over the motor yoke (Figure 5).

Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the hanger ball/downrod assembly and seat the downrod in the motor yoke (Figure 6).

Align the clevis pin holes in the downrod with the holes in the motor yoke. Install the clevis pin and secure with the hairpin clip (Figure 7).

The clevis pin must go through the holes in the motor yoke. It is critical that the clevis pin in the motor yoke is properly installed and securely tightened. Failure to verify that the pin is properly installed could result in the fan falling (Figure 7).

WARNING: It is critical that the clevis pin in the motor coupling is properly installed. Failure to verify that the pin is properly installed (as shown in Figure 6) could result in the fan falling.

Reinstall the previously removed two 5/16-18 setscrews in the motor yoke (Figure 8).

While pulling up on the hanger ball, securely tighten both setscrews against the downrod using the allen wrench, supplied.

WARNING: It is critical that the setscrews are securely tightened. Failure to verify that the setscrews are properly installed (as shown in Figure 8) could result in the fan falling.

Before installing the fan mounting bracket for the EMERSON HF1160WW02, the wires should be prepared by:

The fan comes with black, green ground and white wires that are 48-inches long.

Before installing the fan, measure up approximately 6 to 9-inches above top of hanger ball/downrod assembly (Figure 9).

Cut off excess wires and strip back insulation 1/2-inch from end of wires.

The EMERSON HF1160WW02 fan must be hung with at least 10′ of clearance from floor to blades (Figure 10).

To securely attach the hanger bracket to the outlet box for the EMERSON HF1160WW02:

Securely attach the hanger bracket to the outlet box using the two screws supplied with the outlet box (Figure 11).

WARNING: Hanger bracket must seat firmly against outlet box. If the outlet box is recessed, remove wall board until bracket contacts box. If bracket and/or outlet box are not securely attached, the fan could wobble or fall.

To install the eye screw into the joist when hanging the EMERSON HF1160WW02:

Screw the eye screw (supplied) into the joist 7 inches from the center of the ceiling outlet box (Figure 12).

WARNING: Read and follow instructions carefully. Failure to comply with instructions could result in risk of fire, electric shock, fan falling and injury to persons.

The process for seating the hanger ball/downrod assembly into the hanger bracket for the EMERSON HF1160WW02 is:

Carefully lift the fan and seat the hanger ball/downrod assembly into the hanger bracket that was just attached to the outlet box (Figure 13).

Be sure the groove in the ball is lined up with anti-rotation tab on the hanger bracket (Figure 13).

The retention cable for the EMERSON HF1160WW02 is attached and secured as follows:

This fan is equipped with the required retention cable.

This cable must be affixed to the building structure and securely clamped in such a manner to support the weight of the fan in the event the mounting hook or other parts fail.

Pass the end of the safety cable through the two cable clamps (supplied) (Figure 14).

Pass the end of the safety cable through the eye screw and then back through the two cable clamps.

NOTE: Leave approximately 3″ but no more than 5″ of slack on this safety cable to allow for possible fan movement. Do not exceed more than 5″ total slack.

After verifying that the cable clamps are positioned properly on the safety cable, tighten the nuts on the U-bolts.

CAUTION: It is important to note the proper installation position of the cable clamps as illustrated in Figure 14. To obtain maximum holding power, install U-bolt section of clip on dead or short end of cable and saddle on long end of cable. Improper installation reduces the efficiency of the connection by as much as 40 percent.

The correct procedure for connecting the grounding wires when wiring the EMERSON HF1160WW02 is:

Connect the green grounding wire from the hanger ball, the green grounding wire from the hanger bracket, and the green grounding wire from the fan to the grounding conductor of the supply (this may be a bare wire or wire with green colored insulation).

Securely connect wires with a wire connector (supplied) (Figure 15).

CAUTION: Use larger U.L. listed wire connectors if supply source wires are larger than #12 AWG.

To connect the white wires when wiring the EMERSON HF1160WW02, securely connect the fan motor white wire to the supply white (neutral) wire using wire connector (supplied) (Figure 16).

Securely connect the fan motor black (hot) wire to the supply black wire (hot) using a wire connector supplied (Figure 17).

WARNING: Check to see that all connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire connectors, except for the ground wire.

CAUTION: Do not operate fan until blades are in place. Noise and fan damage could result.

After connections have been made for the EMERSON HF1160WW02, turn wires upward and carefully push wires into the outlet box, with the white and green wires on one side of the outlet box and the black wires on the other side of the outlet box (Figure 18).

To install the threaded studs in the hanger bracket for the EMERSON HF1160WW02 ceiling cover:

Screw the two 3/4″ threaded studs (supplied) into the tapped holes in the hanger bracket (Figure 19).

The procedure for securing the ceiling cover against the ceiling after wiring the EMERSON HF1160WW02 is:

Lift the ceiling cover up to the threaded studs and turn until studs protrude through the holes in the ceiling cover (Figure 20).

Secure the ceiling cover in place by sliding lockwashers over the threaded studs and installing the two knurled knobs (supplied) (Figure 20).

Tighten the knurled knobs securely until the ceiling cover fits snugly against the ceiling.

Your fan is now wired to be turned on and off from the wall switch.

WARNING: To avoid possible fire or shock, make sure that the electrical wires are completely inside the outlet box and not pinched between the ceiling cover and the ceiling.

The SW95 Wall Control is designed to operate only one ceiling fan, and Not an accessory light kit.

Disconnect the existing wall switch wires from the wires in the outlet box by removing the the two wire connectors (discard connectors) (Figure 22).

Set the new Wall Control in the OFF position (full counter-clockwise) (Figure 23).

Pull the knob of the Wall Control (retain for future use).

Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the Fan/Motor Lead (BLACK or RED) wire using a new wire connector (supplied) (Figure 24).

NOTE: Use only the wire connectors supplied with the new Wall Control to secure electrical connections.

Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the 120 VAC source hot BLACK wire using a new wire connector (supplied) (Figure 25).

Securely connect the GREEN ground wire from the Wall Control to the supply ground wire (bare or green) (Figure 26).

WARNING: Check to see that all wire connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire connectors, except for ground.

NOTE: The WHITE neutral wires inside the electrical box must be connected together for proper operation of the wall control. NEVER connect the WHITE neutral wires to the Wall Control (Figure 27).

WARNING: Do not connect any neutral (WHITE) wire to this control. Incorrect wiring WILL damage this control.

Carefully tuck all wires and wire connectors into the outlet box and position the Wall Control onto the outlet box (Figure 28).

Place the previously removed faceplate onto the Wall Control.

Assemble the faceplate to the Wall Control using the two previously removed 6-32 screws (Figure 29).

The Wall Control is supplied with a white and almond knob. Select the knob that matches the color of existing faceplate (Figure 30).

Press knob onto the shaft of the Wall Control.

Rotate knob counter-clockwise to the full OFF position.

To Complete Installation: Restore power at the main fuse box or circuit breaker panel.

The suggested remedies if the EMERSON HF1160WW02 fan will not start are:

Check main and branch circuit fuses or circuit breakers.

Check line wire connections to fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing.

WARNING: Make sure main power is turned OFF.

Attach blades to fan before operating.

Check to make sure all screws in motor housing are snug (not over-tight).
