To reduce the risk of personal injury with the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, do not bend the blade flanges when installing the blades, balancing the blades, or cleaning the fan. Do not insert foreign objects between rotating fan blades.

Use the setscrew wrench (supplied) to remove the two setscrews from the top of the motor yoke for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, and retain the setscrews for future use.

The three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable must be separated, untwisted, and unkinked, and then routed through the center hole in the motor cover for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Secure the motor cover to the motor assembly for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 by installing two #8-32 x 1/4″ pan head screws and two #8 external tooth lockwashers (supplied), after aligning the two holes in the motor cover with the threaded holes in the motor yoke.

Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the center hole in the ceiling cover and position the ceiling cover over the motor yoke for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the hanger ball/downrod assembly and seat the downrod in the motor yoke for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

It is critical that the clevis pin in the motor coupling of the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 is properly installed. Failure to verify that the pin is properly installed (as shown in Figure 6) could result in the fan falling.

Reinstall the previously removed two 5/16-18 setscrews in the motor yoke. While pulling up on the hanger ball, securely tighten both setscrews against the downrod using the allen wrench, supplied, for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Before installing the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 fan, measure up approximately 6 to 9-inches above the top of the hanger ball/downrod assembly, then cut off excess wires and strip back insulation 1/2-inch from the end of the wires.

For an installed wire length of 50-100 ft when wiring the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, the required wire size is 12 A.W.G.

To avoid possible electrical shock before wiring the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, be sure electricity is turned off at the main fuse box. All wiring must be in accordance with National and Local codes and the ceiling fan must be properly grounded as a precaution against possible electrical shock.

Connect the green grounding wire from the hanger ball, the green grounding wire from the hanger bracket, and the green grounding wire from the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 fan to the grounding conductor of the supply (this may be a bare wire or wire with green colored insulation). Securely connect wires with a wire connector (supplied).

Securely connect the fan motor white wire to the supply white (neutral) wire using a wire connector (supplied) for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Securely connect the fan motor black (hot) wire to the supply black wire (hot) using a wire connector supplied for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Check to see that all connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire connectors, except for the ground wire for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02. Do not operate the fan until blades are in place; noise and fan damage could result.

After connections have been made for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, turn wires upward and carefully push wires into the outlet box, with the white and green wires on one side of the outlet box and the black wires on the other side of the outlet box.

Screw the two 3/4″ threaded studs (supplied) into the tapped holes in the hanger bracket for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Secure the ceiling cover in place for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 by sliding lockwashers over the threaded studs and installing the two knurled knobs (supplied). Tighten the knurled knobs securely until the ceiling cover fits snugly against the ceiling.

To avoid possible fire or shock with the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, make sure that the electrical wires are completely inside the outlet box and not pinched between the ceiling cover and the ceiling.

Turning off the wall switch is not sufficient to avoid possible electrical shock when installing the wall control for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02. Be sure electricity is turned off at the main fuse box before wiring. All wiring must be in accordance with National and Local codes and the ceiling fan must be properly grounded as a precaution against possible electrical shock.

The ceiling fan must be set at the highest speed setting before installation of the Wall Control for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

Use only the wire connectors supplied with the new Wall Control to secure electrical connections when connecting the Wall Control BLACK wire to the Fan/Motor Lead (BLACK or RED) wire for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02.

The WHITE neutral wires inside the electrical box must be connected together for proper operation of the wall control for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02. NEVER connect the WHITE neutral wires to the Wall Control. Incorrect wiring WILL damage this control.

After pressing the knob onto the shaft of the Wall Control for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02, rotate the knob counter-clockwise to the full OFF position. To complete installation, restore power at the main fuse box or circuit breaker panel.

The use of any other control not specifically approved for the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 could result in fire, shock and personal injury.

After completing installation, test run the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 fan in normal operation manner. Inspect for any possible shake or wobble which may be caused by binding as a result of “tight cable”. If this should happen, shut off power supply and re-check instructions to correct problem.

Blades not attached to fan.

Loose screws in motor housing.

Screws securing fan blade flanges to motor hub are loose.

Check to make sure all screws in motor housing are snug (not over-tight).

Check to make sure the screws which attach the fan flanges to the motor hub are tight.

Make sure main power is turned OFF.

Setscrews in motor coupling are loose.

Setscrew in hanger ball / downrod assembly is loose.

The probable causes if the EMERSON HF1160BQ02 fan will not start are:

Fuse or circuit breaker blown.

Loose power line connections to the fan, or loose switch wire connections in the switch housing.

Check main and branch circuit fuses or circuit breakers.
