DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATIONS The Electro-Voice Model PL91 is an extremely rugged dynamic cardioid microphone designed primarily for use by the vocal entertainer. When used close up, the P 1.91 exhibits the proper amount of bass boost that vocalists reaily like. When used close up, the PL91 delivers e mellow, full range sound. It has the bite to cut through a blaring main system. Also, because of the bass boost feature. many artists have selected it for use in miking percussion instruments. The PL91 utilizes a newly designed shock suspension that effectively reduces handling and cable noise. Feedback in live entertainment situations is caused by sound being reflected off wails, speaker systems, amps, mixers, etc. back into the micro- phone. Microphones and speaker systems that exhibit peaked frequency response curves tend to trigger a feed- back situation. Feedback prob!ems can be minimized by using microphone and speaker systems that exhibit an overall smooth, peak free frequency response, The pro•line family Of Electro-Vo ice microphones have an overall smoothness of frequency response that helps signifi- can tty to control feedback problems. Feedback problems can be further minimized bv using close miking techniques on all microphones used whether they be instrument micro- phones or vocal microphones. Close ag.Jlbn corrparrg 9. Dynamic cardioid Vocal miking techniques help reduce feedback because the microphone’s signal to the amplifier is at a maximum in this condition and the amplifier’s gain setting can be reduced appreciably. This yields a significant reduction of back- ground and reflected sound to the microphone as compared to the entertainer’s voice giving more system sound output before feedback.
