How do I get started with the EBS REIDMAR 752 bass head?

Follow these steps to set up your EBS REIDMAR 752:

1. Carefully unpack the bass head.

2. “Zero” the settings by turning all knobs fully counter-clockwise, except for the EQ controls (BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE), which should be set to their mid position. Ensure all push switches are in their outer positions.

3. Connect one or more speaker cabinets to the speaker output. Make sure the total impedance is not below 2 ohms.

4. Turn on the POWER switch.

5. Plug in your bass. While plucking the strings at your hardest playing volume, gradually increase the GAIN knob until the peak LED starts to flash at peaks.

6. Adjust the VOLUME knob for the desired output volume.

How can I build my sound using the controls on the EBS REIDMAR 752?

Once you have the initial gain and volume set, you can shape your tone with these steps:

1. Use the Character Filter, located next to the GAIN control, to apply a preshape EQ to your sound before further fine-tuning.

2. Enable the main filters by pressing the Filter Active pushbutton. At first, you won’t hear a difference.

3. The filters (BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE) are a boost/cut design. The level controls, marked with + and -, will either boost or cut the selected frequency band.

4. Adjust the MIDDLE section by gradually increasing or decreasing the level and varying the frequency control to hear how the sound is affected. You can make an A/B comparison by toggling the Filter Active switch.

5. Proceed to the COMP/LIMIT knob. This control adjusts compression. Turn it up to the mid and max positions to notice how volume peaks are straightened out as you play harder.

6. Turn the BRIGHT knob halfway up. This high-pass filter works on the highest frequencies to give enhanced ambiance and presence.

7. Use the DRIVE control to add an overdriven sound. Increase this setting gradually until you reach the desired level of overdrive.

What are the functions of the front panel controls on the EBS REIDMAR 752?

1. INPUT: A low-noise, high-impedance instrument input that works perfectly with both passive and active instruments.

2. CHARACTER FILTER: A preshape filter that operates independently from other preamp functions. When on, it boosts the bass and treble ranges while slightly dropping the midrange gain.

3. GAIN: This control adjusts the instrument’s signal strength to the right operating level. For optimal signal level, turn up the GAIN knob until the PEAK LED flashes on the strongest signals from your instrument. A correctly set GAIN is vital for proper signal processing.

4. COMP/LIMIT: A low-noise compressor/limiter that tightens the sound and prevents saturation at peaks. The knob sets the compression ratio; a higher ratio means more compression. The LED intensity dynamically indicates the amount of compression during play.

5. FILTER ACTIVE: This switch activates the filter section (BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE, BRIGHT).

6. FILTERS: The filter section contains four enhanced performance filters:

BASS: A ‘shelving’ type 12dB/oct slope phase compensated bass filter with a wide gain range.

MIDDLE: This filter has an extended frequency range of 100-6000 Hz for total control over the mids. It provides a natural, non-peaking result. At its minimum setting, this filter can function as a notch filter to cut a specific frequency or eliminate acoustic feedback.

TREBLE: A shelving type filter that controls the higher mids and treble registers, adding presence and ambience.

BRIGHT: An advanced high-pass filter that produces bright high-treble timbre without adding noticeable noise.

7. DRIVE: This knob controls the gain in the tube emulation stage, providing up to 34 dB of extra gain. It produces a warm overdrive, and the output remains relatively constant. This control also compresses the sound, producing pure limitation at maximum levels. This function can be remotely controlled by a footswitch.

8. VOLUME: This knob controls all volume in the unit, affecting the power amp and the LINE output. It does not affect the balanced output (XLR).

9. PILOT LAMP: Indicates that the power is on.

What are the features on the rear panel of the EBS REIDMAR 752?

1. BALANCED OUTPUT: A high-quality balanced XLR output that functions like a line box for connecting to PA mixing consoles or recording units with high noise immunity. The master VOLUME knob does not affect this output’s level.

2. GND LIFT SWITCH: Disconnects the ground from the balanced output to eliminate ground noise and hum when needed. Set it to the ‘Lift’ position to engage.

3. PRE/POST EQ SWITCH: Selects the signal source for the BALANCED OUTPUT. In the inner position, it sends the full sound including EQ settings. In the lower position, it sends an uncolored sound taken immediately after the amplifier’s input stage.

4. LINE OUT: A full-range output that can drive multiple power amps. The signal is taken after the VOLUME control.

5. REMOTES: Two remote jacks for connecting footswitches to control the Character filter, Filter Active switch, Drive section, and a Mute function. Standard footswitches can be used. Note: The corresponding front panel switches must be set to their inner position to be remotely controlled.

6. SPEAKER OUTPUT: Connect your speakers here. Ensure the total minimum impedance is not lower than 2 ohms. Using an impedance lower than 2 ohms may cause permanent damage to the amplifier.

7. SYSTEM FAN: A fan that controls the unit’s temperature to maintain performance. Do not cover the ventilation openings.

8. MAINS SELECTOR SWITCH: Selects the operating mains voltage. Always unplug the amp before changing this setting.

9. AUX IN: A 3.5mm input for a stereo or mono external source like an MP3 player. The volume must be controlled from the source device. Both channels are mixed in. The signal from this input is not present at the balanced output.

10. PHONES: A 1/4″ stereo jack to connect standard headphones.

11. EFFECTS LOOP: A serial effects loop for external effects units. The loop is placed after the filter, compressor, and drive sections in the signal chain. Nominal level is set for use with standard stomp boxes.

12. MAINS: Connect only to the indicated mains AC voltage. Replace the fuse only with the same type and value if needed.

13. POWER: Switches the amplifier on or off.

What is the signal path of the EBS REIDMAR 752?

Based on the block diagram, the signal flows through the EBS REIDMAR 752 in the following order:

1. INPUT

2. BUFFER

3. INPUT GAIN

4. CHARACTER (PRE-SHAPE FILTER) – can be bypassed.

5. From here, the signal splits. One path goes to the BALANCED OUTPUT (which can be switched Pre/Post EQ), and the other continues to the main signal chain.

6. FILTER SECTION (MIDDLE, BASS, TREBLE, BRIGHT) – can be bypassed with FILTER ACTIVE switch.

7. COMPRESSOR / LIMITER

8. DRIVE STAGE

9. EFFECTS LOOP (SEND/RETURN)

10. VOLUME control.

11. The signal from the VOLUME control goes to the POWER AMPLIFIER (and then to the SPEAKER OUT) and the LINE OUT.

12. AUX IN is mixed into the signal just before the POWER AMPLIFIER.

What are the power output ratings for the EBS REIDMAR 752 and how should I match speaker cabinets?

The EBS REIDMAR 752 handles a 2 Ohm minimum load. The power output ratings are:

750W RMS @ 2 Ω

450W RMS @ 4 Ω

230W RMS @ 8 Ω

A rule of thumb is to use cabinets that can handle the amplifier’s output at the cabinet’s specific load. For example, a 4-ohm cabinet connected to the Reidmar 752 should be rated to handle at least 450W RMS.

WARNING! Due to the high output of the Reidmar 752, be careful not to damage speaker cabinets by exceeding their power handling ratings.
