Dell Display Manager (DDM) is a Microsoft Windows application used to manage a monitor or a group of monitors. It allows for manual adjustment of the displayed image, assignment of automatic settings, energy management, window organization, image rotation, and other features on selected Dell monitors. After installation, Dell Display Manager runs each time the system starts and places its icon in the notification tray.

For Dell Display Manager to communicate with your DELL E2720H, you must ensure that the DDC/CI (Display Data Channel/Command Interface) channel is enabled in the monitor’s menu. To do this:

1. Open the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) menu.

2. Navigate to ‘Others’.

3. Find the ‘DDC/CI’ option and set it to ‘On’.

To use the Quick Settings dialog for your DELL E2720H, click the Dell Display Manager’s notification tray icon. This opens the Quick Settings dialog box. From here, you can perform the following actions:

If you have multiple Dell monitors connected, you can select the “Enable display matrix control” checkbox to apply brightness, contrast, and color presets controls to all connected monitors simultaneously.

The ‘Auto Mode’ tab in Dell Display Manager allows you to associate a specific Preset Mode with an application. When Auto Mode is enabled, Dell Display Manager will automatically switch to the corresponding Preset Mode whenever that application becomes active.

To add a new application to the assignment list, simply drag the application’s icon from the desktop, Windows Start Menu, or elsewhere, and drop it onto the current list in the ‘Auto Mode’ tab. You can then assign a preset mode to it from the dropdown menu.

Note that Preset Mode assignments for batch files, scripts, loaders, and non-executable files like zip archives or packed files are not supported.

Easy Arrange helps you organize application windows on your desktop. To use it:

1. Open the Dell Display Manager and go to the ‘Easy Arrange’ tab.

2. Choose a predefined layout pattern that suits your work. You can press “>” or use the Page Up/Page Down keys to find more layouts.

3. Drag your application windows into the defined zones, and they will automatically resize and position themselves.

To create a custom layout, arrange your open windows as desired and then click ‘Save’.

If you often use the Windows snap feature, you can select the “Hold down the SHIFT key to enable zone positioning” checkbox. This prioritizes Windows snap, and you will need to hold the Shift key to use Easy Arrange positioning.

If you are using multiple monitors, you can select “Span multiple monitors” to apply the Easy Arrange layout across all monitors as a single desktop. Ensure your monitors are aligned properly for this feature to work effectively.

The ‘Input Manager’ tab in Dell Display Manager provides ways to manage multiple video inputs connected to your DELL E2720H. All available video input ports are listed.

• Naming Inputs: You can give each input a custom name by clicking “(Click to edit)” next to the input port and typing a new name. Remember to save your changes.

• Favorite Input Shortcut: You can define a shortcut key to quickly switch to your most frequently used input.

• Input Switch Shortcut: You can define another shortcut key to quickly switch back and forth between two inputs if you often work between them.

You can also use the dropdown list next to an input to switch to any available input source directly from the application.

DDM can communicate with your monitor even when it’s displaying video from another computer. You can install DDM on each computer connected to the monitor and control input switching from any of them.

Dell Display Manager (DDM) can help you restore application windows to their positions when you reconnect your computer to your DELL E2720H. You can access this feature by right-clicking the DDM icon in the notification tray. You have a few options:

• Auto-restore window layout: If you choose this option, DDM will track and remember your application window positions. It then automatically puts the windows back into their original positions when you reconnect your PC to the monitor(s).

• Save current window layout: This allows you to save the current arrangement of your open windows.

• Restore saved window layout: After moving windows around, you can use this option to return to a previously saved layout.

This feature is useful if you use monitors with different models or resolutions, as DDM can recognize the reconnected monitor and restore positions accordingly. To benefit from this feature, you should keep your applications running; DDM does not launch applications.

On supported Dell models like the DELL E2720H, an ‘Options’ tab is available in Dell Display Manager that provides PowerNap energy conservation options. In this tab, you can choose what happens when the screensaver is activated:

• Reduce brightness when screensaver activates: This option sets the monitor’s brightness to the minimum level.

• Put the display to sleep when screensaver activates: This option puts the monitor into sleep mode.

You can also define shortcut keys in the Options tab for Program shortcut, Application window shortcut, and Easy Arrange MRU shortcut.

If DDM does not work with your DELL E2720H, it will show an icon in your notification tray with a message “Please connect a supported Dell monitor”. Clicking the icon will show a more detailed error message stating that the program requires a supported Dell monitor and connection, and a compatible display driver.

If DDM is unable to detect or communicate with your supported DELL E2720H, please take the following actions to troubleshoot:

1. Make sure the video cable is properly connected between your monitor and your computer. Ensure the connectors are firmly inserted into position.

2. Check the monitor OSD (On-Screen Display) to ensure DDC/CI is enabled.

3. Make sure you have the correct and latest graphics card driver from the vendor (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, etc.). The graphics driver is often the cause of DDM failure.

4. Remove any docking stations, cable extenders, and converters between the monitor and the graphics port. Some low-cost extenders, hubs, or converters may not support DDC/CI properly and can cause DDM to fail. Update the driver of such devices if a newer version is available.

5. Restart your computer.

Yes, DDM may not work with the following types of monitors or displays:

• Dell monitor models that shipped earlier than 2013 and D-series of Dell monitors.

• Gaming monitors using Nvidia-based G-sync technology.

• Virtual and wireless displays do not support DDC/CI.

• Some early models of DP 1.2 monitors may require you to disable MST/DP 1.2 using the monitor OSD.
