Dell Display Manager (DDM) uses the DDC/CI (Display Data Channel/Command Interface) channel to communicate with your monitor. You must ensure that DDC/CI is enabled in the monitor’s menu. To do this, access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, navigate to ‘Others’, and set DDC/CI to ‘On’.

To open the Quick Settings dialog box, click the Dell Display Manager’s notification tray icon. This dialog box allows for convenient adjustment of the monitor’s brightness and contrast levels. You can select ‘Manual Mode’ or ‘Auto Mode’, and the screen resolution can also be changed. The Quick Settings dialog box also provides access to Dell Display Manager’s advanced user interface for more functions.

From the ‘Basic’ tab in the Dell Display Manager, you can select ‘Manual Mode’ to manually choose a preset mode (like Standard, Warm, etc.). Alternatively, you can select ‘Auto Mode’, which applies a preset mode based on the active application. An on-screen message displays the current preset mode whenever it changes. The monitor’s Brightness and Contrast can also be directly adjusted from this tab.

When multiple Dell monitors are connected, you can apply brightness, contrast, and color preset controls to all monitors at once. To do this, go to the ‘Basic’ tab in the Dell Display Manager and select the checkbox for “Enable display matrix control”.

The ‘Auto Mode’ tab allows you to associate a specific Preset Mode with an application. When Auto Mode is enabled, Dell Display Manager automatically switches to the corresponding Preset Mode whenever the associated application is activated. To add a new application to the assignment list, simply drag the application from the desktop, Windows Start Menu, or elsewhere, and drop it onto the current list. You can also configure the Game preset mode to be used whenever a Direct3D application runs in full-screen mode.

NOTE: Preset Mode assignments for batch files, scripts, loaders, and non-executable files such as zip archives or packed files are not supported.

Easy Arrange helps you organize your application windows on the desktop. First, from the ‘Easy Arrange’ tab, choose a predefined layout pattern that suits your work. You can press “>” or use the Page Up/Page Down key to find more layouts. Then, drag your application windows into the defined zones, and they will automatically position and resize. To create a custom layout, arrange the open windows as you wish and then click ‘Save’.

If you often use the standard Windows snap feature, you can select the “Hold down the SHIFT key to enable zone positioning” checkbox. This setting gives the Windows snap feature priority over Easy Arrange. You will then need to press and hold the Shift key to use Easy Arrange positioning for your windows.

Yes. If you are using multiple monitors in an array or matrix, the Easy Arrange layout can be applied across all the monitors as one single desktop. To enable this feature, select the “Span multiple monitors” checkbox. You will need to align your monitors properly for this feature to work effectively.

The ‘Input Manager’ tab provides ways to manage multiple video inputs connected to your monitor. All available video input ports are listed, and you can give each input a custom name.

You can define a shortcut key to quickly switch to your favorite input and another shortcut key to quickly switch between two inputs if you often work between them. You can also use the dropdown list in this tab to switch to any available input source.

NOTE: DDM communicates with your monitor even when the monitor is displaying video from another computer. You can install DDM on the computer you frequently use and control input switching from it. You may also install DDM on other computers connected to the monitor.

Dell Display Manager (DDM) can help you restore application windows to their positions when you reconnect your computer to the monitor. To use this, right-click on the DDM icon in the notification tray and select “Auto-restore window layout”. With this option checked, DDM tracks and remembers your application windows’ positions. DDM will automatically put the application windows into their original positions when you reconnect your PC to your monitor(s).

NOTE: You should keep your applications running for this feature to work. DDM does not launch applications.

If you want to save a specific arrangement of windows on your desktop, you can right-click the DDM icon in the notification tray and select “Save current window layout”. If you move the windows around later and want to return to your saved arrangement, right-click the DDM icon again and select “Restore saved window layout”.

On supported Dell models, an ‘Options’ tab is available in Dell Display Manager that provides PowerNap energy conservation options. You can choose to:

• Reduce brightness when screensaver activates

• Put the display to sleep when screensaver activates

You can also define various shortcut keys on this tab.

If DDM does not work, it will show an icon in your notification tray with the message “Please connect a supported Dell monitor”. Clicking the icon shows a more detailed error message. If DDM is unable to detect and/or communicate with your supported Dell monitor, please take the following actions to troubleshoot:

1. Make sure the video cable is properly connected between your monitor and your computer. Ensure the connectors are firmly inserted into position.

2. Check the monitor OSD to ensure DDC/CI is enabled.

3. Make sure you have the right graphics card driver from the vendor (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, etc.). The graphics driver is often the cause of DDM failure.

4. Remove any docking stations, cable extenders, and converters between the monitor and the graphics port. Some low-cost extenders, hubs or converters may not support DDC/CI properly and can fail DDM. Update the driver of such a device if the latest version is available.

5. Restart your computer.

DDM may not work with the following monitors:

• Dell monitor models that shipped earlier than 2013 and D-series of Dell monitors.

• Gaming monitors using Nvidia-based G-sync technology.

• Virtual and wireless displays do not support DDC/CI.

• Some early models of DP 1.2 monitors; it may be necessary to disable MST/DP 1.2 using the monitor OSD.

If your computer is connected to the Internet, you will be prompted to upgrade to a new version of DDM when it is available. It is recommended to download and install the latest DDM application.

You may also check for a new version manually by right-clicking on the DDM icon in the notification tray while pressing and holding the ‘shift’ key. Then, select “Check for new version…” from the menu that appears.
