Please adhere to the following general safety instructions when using your DEFY DHD415 hob:

• This hob is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the hob by a person responsible for their safety.

• Children must be supervised to prevent them from tampering with the product.

• Installation and repair procedures must always be performed by Authorized Service Agents. The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for damages arising from procedures carried out by unauthorized persons which may also void the warranty. Before installation, read the instructions carefully.

• Do not operate the product if it is defective or has any visible damage.

• Ensure that the product function knobs are switched off after every use.

To ensure electrical safety with your DEFY DHD415 hob, follow these precautions:

• If the product has a failure, it should not be operated unless it is repaired by the Authorized Service Agent. There is the risk of electric shock!

• Only connect the product to a grounded outlet/line with the voltage and protection as specified in the “Technical specifications”. Have the grounding installation made by a qualified electrician. The company shall not be liable for any problems arising due to the product not being earthed in accordance with local regulations.

• Never wash the product by spreading or pouring water onto it! There is the risk of electric shock!

• The product must be disconnected during installation, maintenance, cleaning and repairing procedures.

• If the power connection cable for the product is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

• Only use the connection cable specified in the “Technical specifications”.

• The appliance must be installed so that it can be completely disconnected from the mains supply. The separation must be provided by a switch built into the fixed electrical installation, according to construction regulations.

• Any work on electrical equipment and systems should only be carried out by authorized and qualified persons.

• In case of any damage, switch off the product and disconnect it from the mains. To do this, turn off the fuse at home.

• Make sure that fuse rating is compatible with the product.

Please follow these product safety guidelines for your DEFY DHD415 hob:

• The appliance and its accessible parts become hot during use. Care should be taken to avoid touching heating elements. Children less than 8 years of age shall be kept away unless continuously supervised.

• Never use the product when your judgment or coordination is impaired by the use of alcohol and/or drugs.

• Be careful when using alcoholic drinks in your dishes. Alcohol evaporates at high temperatures and may cause fire since it can ignite when it comes into contact with hot surfaces.

• Use only hob guards designed by the manufacturer of the cooking appliance or indicated by the manufacturer of the appliance in the instructions for use as suitable or hob guards incorporated in the appliance. The use of inappropriate guards can cause accidents.

• To prevent fire risk, ensure all electrical connections are secure and tight to prevent arcing. Do not use damaged cables or extension cables, and ensure no liquid or moisture can access the electrical connection point.

To prevent fire risk with your DEFY DHD415 hob:

• Danger of fire: Do not store items on the cooking surface.

• CAUTION: The cooking process has to be supervised. A short term cooking process has to be supervised continuously.

• WARNING: Unattended cooking on a hob with fat or oil can be dangerous and may result in a fire. NEVER try to extinguish a fire with water, but switch off the appliance and then cover flame e.g. with a lid or a fire blanket.

• When you heat oil, do not leave it unattended. If oil has caught fire, immediately cover the pot or pan with a lid. Switch off the hob if safe to do so and phone the fire service.

• This product is designed for domestic use. Commercial use will void the guarantee.

• This appliance is for cooking purposes only. It must not be used for other purposes, for example room heating.

• The manufacturer shall not be liable for any damage caused by improper use or handling errors.

• Accessible parts may become hot during use. Young children should be kept away.

• The packaging materials will be dangerous for children. Keep the packaging materials away from children. Please dispose of all parts of the packaging according to environmental standards.

• Electrical products are dangerous to children. Keep children away from the product when it is operating and do not allow them to play with the product.

• Do not place any items above the appliance that children may reach for.

Before installing your DEFY DHD415 hob:

• The hob is designed for installation in a commercial worktop. A safety distance must be left between the appliance and the kitchen walls and furniture.

• Allow a minimum distance of 750 mm above the hob surface. If a cooker hood is to be installed, refer to its instructions for installation height (min 650 mm).

• Visually check the product for any defects. If there are any, do not have it installed.

• Remove all packaging materials and transport locks.

• Ensure surfaces, synthetic laminates, and adhesives used are heat resistant (100 °C minimum).

• The worktop must be aligned and fixed horizontally.

• Cut the aperture for the hob in the worktop as per installation dimensions (560 mm width / 480 mm depth).

• The mounting cabinet’s layout and materials should account for the heat generated by the appliance. Surfaces and edges adjacent to the hob must withstand temperatures up to 100°C without delaminating or discolouring.

Installation and connection must be done by a qualified person according to local regulations. Before starting, disconnect the product from the mains supply.

Electrical Connection:

• Connect the hob to a grounded outlet/line protected by a fuse of suitable capacity (min. 25 A) as stated in the “Technical specifications” table.

• The mains supply data must match the data on the hob’s type label.

Connecting the Power Cable:

1. Open the terminal block cover with a screwdriver.

2. Insert the power cable through the cable clamp and secure it.

3. Connect the cables according to the supplied diagram. The power cable must not be clamped, bent, trapped, or touch hot parts.

4. After making connections, close the terminal block cover.

5. Route the cable so it doesn’t contact the product or get squeezed between the product and the wall. The cable should not be longer than 2m for safety.

Installing the Product:

1. Turn the hob upside down on a flat surface.

2. Apply the supplied putty to the contours of the lower housing to prevent liquids from penetrating. Ensure the putty does not overlap.

3. Turn the hob correct side up, align it, and place it on the counter.

4. Secure the hob to the counter using the supplied clamps and screws.

Final Check:

1. Connect the power cable and switch on the product’s fuse.

2. Check the functions.

Yes, there are special considerations:

• Installation above a drawer: If it is possible to touch the bottom of the hob when installed over a drawer, this section must be covered with a wooden plate. A minimum distance of 30 mm must be maintained between the hob and the plate.

• Installation above a built-in oven: When installing the hob onto a cabinet above a built-in oven, a separating shelf is not required. Ensure there is a minimum of 70 mm clearance below the worktop, and a minimum of 20 mm between the bottom of the hob and the top of the oven.

To use your DEFY DHD415 hob ecologically and save energy, follow these tips:

• Defrost frozen dishes before cooking them.

• Use pots/pans with a cover for cooking. Without a cover, energy consumption may increase by up to 4 times.

• Select the burner suitable for the bottom size of the pot. Always use the correct pot size; larger pots require more energy.

• Use flat-bottomed pots. Pots with a thick bottom provide better heat conduction, saving up to 1/3 of energy.

• Ensure the bottoms of pots and pans are compatible with the hotplates and not smaller than the hotplate.

• Keep the hotplates and the bottom of pots clean. Dirt reduces heat conduction.

• For long cooking processes, turn off the hotplate 5 to 10 minutes before the end of cooking time to use the residual heat. This can save up to 20% in energy.

Before using your DEFY DHD415 hob for the first time, perform the following steps:

1. Remove all packaging materials.

2. Wipe the surfaces of the hob with a damp cloth or sponge and dry with a cloth.

Important Note: The surface might get damaged by some detergents or cleaning materials. Do not use aggressive detergents, cleaning powders/creams, or any sharp objects during cleaning. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers to clean with.

• Before frying foods, always dry them well and gently place them into the hot oil. Ensure frozen foods are completely thawed before frying.

• Do not cover the vessel you use when heating oil.

• Place pans and saucepans so their handles are not over the hob to prevent them from heating up. Do not place unbalanced and easily tilting vessels on the hob.

• Do not place empty vessels on cooking zones that are switched on, as they might get damaged.

• Operating a cooking zone without a vessel on it will damage the product. Turn off the cooking zones after cooking is complete.

• Since the surface can be hot, do not put plastic or aluminum vessels on it.

• Use flat-bottomed saucepans or vessels only.

• Put an appropriate amount of food in saucepans to prevent dishes from overflowing and avoid unnecessary cleaning.

• Do not put covers of saucepans or pans on cooking zones.

• Place saucepans so they are centered on the cooking zone. To move a saucepan to another zone, lift and place it, do not slide it.

The advised diameter of pots to be used on the hotplates are:

• 14-16 cm for the smaller hotplates (front right, rear left).

• 18-20 cm for the larger hotplates (front left, rear right).

Switching on the hotplates:

Use the hotplate knobs to operate the hotplates. Turn the knobs in either direction to the relevant level to obtain the desired cooking level.

Switching off the hotplates:

Turn the hotplate knob to the OFF (upper) position.

Note: If your hob is equipped with hotplates featuring a Booster function, the relevant hotplate will be marked with a red dot. This depends on the model.

Regular cleaning will extend the service life of your DEFY DHD415 hob and decrease the possibility of problems.

DANGER: Switch off the electricity before cleaning the product to avoid an electric shock.

DANGER: Hot surfaces may cause burns! Allow the product to cool down before you clean it.

• Clean the product thoroughly after each use to remove cooking residues more easily and prevent them from burning on next use.

• No special cleaning agents are required. Use warm water with washing liquid, a soft cloth, or sponge, and wipe dry.

• Always ensure any excess liquid is thoroughly wiped off after cleaning and any spillage is immediately wiped dry.

• Do not use cleaning agents that contain acid or chloride to clean the stainless or inox surfaces and the handle. Use a soft cloth with a liquid detergent (not abrasive) and wipe in one direction.

Cleaning the Electric Hobs:

1. Turn off the hotplates and wait until they cool down.

2. If necessary, clean the plates with a cleaning agent (available from specialty stores).

3. Warm the plates for a few minutes after cleaning to dry their top section.

4. Regularly apply a thin layer of machine oil onto the top surface of the hob to protect it.

Cleaning the Control Panel:

Clean the control panel and knobs with a damp cloth and wipe them dry.

Important: Do not remove the control buttons/knobs to clean the control panel. The control panel may get damaged.

If you cannot remedy the trouble after following these instructions, do not attempt to repair a defective product yourself.

For future transportation, keep the hob’s original carton. Transport the product in it and follow the instructions on the carton. If you do not have the original carton, pack the product in bubble wrap or thick cardboard and tape it securely. Before moving, check the general appearance of your product for any damages that might have occurred during transportation.

Before disposing of the old hob, cut off the power cable plug and make the door lock (if any) unusable to avoid dangerous conditions for children. Do not dispose of the hob with normal domestic waste at the end of its service life. Please consult your local authorities for designated collection points.
