The control panel of your BROTHER MFC-L3770CDW provides access to all the machine’s functions through a touchscreen and several physical buttons.

1. Touchscreen Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

Access menus and options by pressing them on the touchscreen. The Main Home screen displays the machine’s status when idle. You can swipe left or right to display other Home screens.

2. Menu Buttons

• (Back): Press to go back to the previous menu.

• (Home): Press to return to the Main Home screen.

• (Cancel): Press to cancel an operation.

3. Dial Pad (Numerical buttons)

Press the Numerical buttons to dial telephone or fax numbers and to enter the number of copies.

4. LED Power Indicator

The LED lights up depending on the machine’s power status.

5. Power On/Off

• Turn the machine on by pressing the power button.

• Turn the machine off by pressing and holding down the power button. The LCD displays [Shutting Down] for a few seconds before going off.

Near Field Communication (NFC)

If your Android™ device supports the NFC feature, you can print from your device or scan documents to your device by touching it to the NFC symbol on the machine.

Press your finger on the LCD to operate it. To display and access all the options, swipe left, right, up, down or press the up/down/left/right arrows on the LCD to scroll through them.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT press the LCD with a sharp object, such as a pen or stylus. It may damage the machine.

NOTE: DO NOT touch the LCD immediately after plugging in the power cord or turning on the machine. Doing this may cause an error.

The following steps explain how to change a machine setting, using the LCD Backlight setting as an example:

1. Press [Settings].

2. Press [All Settings].

3. Swipe up or down or press the up/down arrows to display the [General Setup] option, and then press [General Setup].

4. Swipe up or down or press the up/down arrows to display the [LCD Settings] option, and then press [LCD Settings].

5. Press [Backlight].

6. Press the desired setting (e.g., [Med]).

7. Press the (Home) button.

Follow these steps to load paper into the standard paper tray:

1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

2. Press the green release levers to slide the paper guides to fit the paper size you are loading.

3. Fan the stack of paper well to avoid jams and misfeeds.

4. Load paper in the paper tray with the printing surface face down.

5. Make sure the paper is below the maximum paper mark (indicated by three downward triangles). Overfilling the paper tray will cause paper jams.

6. Slowly push the paper tray completely into the machine.

7. Lift the support flap to prevent paper from sliding off the output tray.

Note: When you load a different size and type of paper in the tray, you must also change the Paper Size and Paper Type settings in the machine, or on your computer.

The MP tray can hold various types of media, including plain, thin, thick, recycled, bond, glossy paper, labels, and envelopes.

To Load Paper:

1. Lift the support flap to prevent paper from sliding off the face down output tray.

2. Open the MP tray and lower it gently.

3. Pull out the MP tray support and unfold the flap.

4. Slide the MP tray paper guides to fit the width of the paper you are using.

5. Load paper with the printing surface face up in the MP tray. Ensure the paper is below the maximum paper mark.

To Load Labels:

1. Open the machine’s back cover (the face up output tray). This creates a straight paper path.

2. On the front, open the MP tray and lower it gently.

3. Pull out the MP tray support and unfold the flap.

4. Slide the paper guides to fit the width of the label sheets.

5. Load the label sheet with the printing surface face up in the MP tray.

6. Change your print preferences in the Print screen before sending the job.

7. After printing, close the back cover.

To Load Envelopes:

1. Before loading, press the corners and sides of the envelopes to make them as flat as possible.

2. Open the machine’s back cover (the face up output tray).

3. Pull down the two grey levers, one on the left and one on the right side.

4. Open the MP tray on the front and pull out its support and flap.

5. Slide the paper guides to fit the width of the envelopes.

6. Load up to three envelopes with the printing surface face up.

7. Change your print preferences for envelopes in the Print dialog box before sending the job.

8. After printing, return the two grey levers to their original positions and close the back cover.

You can use either the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for multiple pages or the scanner glass for single or non-standard pages.

Using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):

The ADF can hold up to 50 pages of standard 80 g/m² paper.

1. Unfold the ADF document output support flap.

2. Fan the pages well.

3. Stagger the pages of your document and load it face up and top edge first into the ADF.

4. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of your document.

IMPORTANT:

• DO NOT use paper that is curled, wrinkled, folded, ripped, stapled, paper-clipped, pasted, or taped.

• DO NOT use cardboard, newspaper, or fabric.

• To avoid damaging your machine, DO NOT pull on the document while it is feeding.

Using the Scanner Glass:

Use the scanner glass for single pages, books, or thick documents. The ADF must be empty to use the scanner glass.

1. Lift the document cover.

2. Place the document on the scanner glass face down.

3. Place the corner of the page in the upper left corner of the scanner glass, aligning it with the guides.

4. Close the document cover. If the document is thick, press gently on the cover.

Follow these steps to make a basic copy:

1. Make sure you have loaded the correct size paper in the paper tray.

2. Do one of the following:

• Place the document face up in the ADF (recommended for multiple pages).

• Place the document face down on the scanner glass.

3. Press [Copy] on the touchscreen.

4. Change the copy settings if needed. You can change the number of copies, density, tray use, and other options directly from the copy screen or by pressing [Options].

5. Press [Colour Start] for a color copy or [Mono Start] for a black and white copy.

To stop copying, press the (Cancel) button.

You can make 2-sided copies from either 1-sided or 2-sided original documents. To use the automatic 2-sided copy feature, you must load your document in the ADF.

1. Load your document in the ADF.

2. Press [Copy] on the touchscreen.

3. Enter the number of copies.

4. Press [Options] > [2-sided Copy].

5. Do one of the following:

• To make 2-sided copies of a 2-sided document, press [2-sided⇒2-sided].

• To make 2-sided copies from a 1-sided document, first press [Layout] and choose either [Long Edge Flip] or [Short Edge Flip] depending on your document’s layout. Then press [1-sided⇒2-sided].

6. When finished, press [OK] (if the button is displayed).

7. Press [Colour Start] or [Mono Start]. The machine will scan the pages and start printing.

Paper jams can occur in several locations. Follow the instructions displayed on the machine’s LCD to locate and clear the jam. Always unplug the machine from the power socket before clearing jams from certain areas to avoid injury.

Jam in the Paper Tray:

1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

2. Slowly pull out the jammed paper with both hands.

3. Fan the paper stack, check that it is below the maximum mark, and slide it back into the machine.

Jam Inside the Machine:

1. Leave the machine on for 10 minutes to cool down.

2. Open the top cover.

3. Remove all four toner cartridge and drum unit assemblies.

4. Gently pull the jammed paper out.

5. Reinsert the drum and toner assemblies, matching the color labels.

6. Close the top cover.

Jam in the Back of the Machine (Fuser Unit):

1. Leave the machine on for 10 minutes to cool down as internal parts are extremely hot.

2. Open the back cover.

3. Pull the green tabs at the left and right sides to release the fuser cover.

4. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.

5. Close the fuser cover and the back cover.

Jam underneath the Paper Tray:

1. Let the machine cool down for 10 minutes.

2. Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine.

3. Check for paper underneath the tray area and inside the machine. If paper is found, open the back cover and carefully remove it.

4. Check underneath the paper tray itself, flipping the tray over.

5. Reinsert the paper tray firmly.

If you encounter print quality problems, consult the following table for common issues and their solutions.

When the LCD indicates ‘Replace Toner’, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on.

2. Open the top cover until it locks in the open position.

3. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the colour shown on the LCD.

4. Push down the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.

5. Unpack the new toner cartridge.

6. Remove the protective cover from the new cartridge.

7. Insert the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place.

8. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and back several times. Return the tab to the Home position (▲).

9. Slide the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine, matching the toner cartridge colour to the colour label on the machine.

10. Close the machine’s top cover. Do not turn the machine off until the display returns to Ready Mode.

When the LCD indicates ‘Replace Drum’, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on and open the top cover.

2. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the colour indicated on the LCD.

3. Push down the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.

4. Unpack the new drum unit and remove its protective cover.

5. Reinsert the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until it locks into place.

6. Slide the new drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine.

7. Close the top cover.

8. Reset the drum counter. This is a critical step:

a. Press and hold the toner icon for about five seconds.

b. Press [Drum].

c. Select the colour of the drum unit you just replaced.

d. Press [Yes].

IMPORTANT: Only reset the drum counter when you have installed a new drum unit to ensure accurate tracking of the drum’s life.

Cleaning the corona wires can resolve print quality issues like vertical streaks.

1. Open the top cover until it locks in the open position.

2. Remove all four toner cartridge and drum unit assemblies.

3. For each drum unit, clean the corona wire by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times.

4. Be sure to return the green tab to the Home position (▲). The arrow on the tab must be aligned with the arrow on the drum unit. If it is not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.

5. Slide all toner cartridge and drum unit assemblies back into the machine, matching the colors to the labels.

6. Close the machine’s top cover.

Streaks on copied or scanned documents are often caused by dirt on the scanner glass.

1. Press and hold the power button to turn the machine off.

2. Lift the document cover (1).

3. Clean the white plastic surface (2) and the large scanner glass (3) with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

4. In the ADF unit, clean the white bar (1) and the scanner glass strip (2) underneath it with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

5. Close the document cover.

6. Press the power button to turn the machine back on.

You can reset various settings on your machine. Brother strongly recommends performing a Factory Reset when you dispose of the machine to erase all personal data.

Note: Unplug any interface cables before performing a Network, All Settings, or Factory Reset.

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [Initial Setup] > [Reset].

2. Swipe up or down to display the type of reset function you want to use, and then press it. The options are:

• Machine Reset: Resets settings like Date and Time and Ring Delay. Address Book, fax reports, and call history will remain.

• Network: Resets the print server to its default factory settings (including Password and IP Address).

• Address Book & Fax: Resets fax-related settings and deletes the Address Book, stored fax jobs, Station ID, etc.

• All Settings: Resets all machine settings back to the factory defaults. It takes less time than a Factory Reset.

• Factory Reset: Resets all machine settings to the original factory settings and deletes all personal data in the memory. This takes more time than All Settings reset.

3. A confirmation message will appear. For example, “[Machine will reboot after resetting. Press [OK] for 2 seconds to confirm.]”

4. Press and hold [OK] for two seconds to confirm.

5. The machine will restart.
