Yes, your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW can perform simultaneous operations. It can print from your computer while sending or receiving a fax into memory, or while scanning a document into the computer. Fax sending will not be stopped during printing from your computer. However, when the machine is copying or receiving a fax on paper, it pauses the printing operation and then continues printing when the copying or fax receiving has finished.

The control panel of the BROTHER MFC-L3710CW includes the following components and functions:

1. Touchscreen Liquid Crystal Display (LCD): Access menus and options by pressing them on the touchscreen.

2. Menu Buttons:

• (Back): Press to go back to the previous menu.

• (Home): Press to return to the Main Home screen.

• (Cancel): Press to cancel an operation.

3. Dial Pad (Numerical buttons): Press the Numerical buttons to dial telephone or fax numbers and to enter the number of copies.

4. LED Power Indicator: The LED lights up depending on the machine’s power status.

5. Power On/Off:

• Turn the machine on by pressing the power button.

• Turn the machine off by pressing and holding down the power button. The LCD displays [Shutting Down] for a few seconds before going off. If you have an external telephone or TAD connected, it is always available.

Press your finger on the LCD to operate it. To display and access all the options, swipe left, right, up, down or press the on-screen arrows to scroll through them.

The following steps explain how to change a machine setting, using changing the LCD Backlight as an example:

1. Press [Settings].

2. Press [All Settings].

3. Swipe up or down or press the arrows to display the [General Setup] option, and then press [General Setup].

4. Swipe up or down or press the arrows to display the [LCD Settings] option, and then press [LCD Settings].

5. Press [Backlight].

6. Press the desired setting (e.g., [Med]).

7. Press the Home button.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT press the LCD with a sharp object, such as a pen or stylus. It may damage the machine.

NOTE: DO NOT touch the LCD immediately after plugging in the power cord or turning on the machine. Doing this may cause an error.

The touchscreen LCD on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW displays various icons and modes for operation:

Home Screens: Provide access to features like Fax, Copy, and Scan. You can swipe left or right to see different home screens.

Shortcuts Screen: Create shortcuts for frequently-used operations, such as sending a fax, copying, or scanning.

Key Icons and Indicators:

• Date & Time: Displays the date and time set on the machine.

• Modes ([Fax], [Copy], [Scan], [Secure Print], [Web], [Apps], [USB]): Press these icons to access their respective modes and functions.

• (Toner): Displays the remaining toner life. Press to access the [Toner] menu.

• (Settings): Press to access the [Settings] menu. A lock icon will appear if Setting Lock is on.

• Wired LAN Status or Wireless Status: Displays the current network connection status. For wireless, a four-level indicator shows the signal strength.

• [Shortcuts]: Press to access the [Shortcuts] screen.

• (Home screen): Press to access the Home screens.

• New Fax (MFC models): When [Fax Preview] is on, the number of new faxes in memory appears at the top of the screen.

• Warning Icon: Appears when there is an error or maintenance message. Press the message area to view it.

You can change the LCD to display a specific Home screen or Shortcut screen as the default. When the machine is idle or you press the Home button, the touchscreen will return to the screen you set.

1. Press [Settings] > [Screen Settings] > [Main Home Screen].

2. Swipe up or down or press the arrows to display the screen settings, and then press the setting you want.

3. Press the Home button.

The machine will now go to your chosen screen.

Follow these steps to load paper, labels, or envelopes into the manual feed slot of your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW:

1. Lift the support flap to prevent paper from sliding off the face down output tray.

2. Open the manual feed slot cover.

3. Use both hands to slide the manual feed slot paper guides to fit the width of the paper you are using.

4. Using both hands, place one sheet of paper (or one label sheet/envelope) in the manual feed slot until the front edge touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull it in, let go.

Important Notes:

• Load the media with the printing surface facing up.

• Ensure the paper is straight and in the correct position to avoid skewed printouts or jams.

• To print on labels or envelopes, you must also open the machine’s back cover (face up output tray) and pull down the two grey levers inside.

5. Send your print job to the machine. Change your print preferences in the Print screen before sending the job.

6. After the printed page comes out, load the next sheet if you are printing multiple pages.

7. For labels or envelopes, close the back cover and reset the grey levers to their original positions when you have finished printing.

When you change the size and type of paper loaded in the tray, you must also update the settings on the machine. Follow these steps for your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW:

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [General Setup] > [Tray Setting] > [Paper Type].

2. Press the option you want.

3. Swipe up or down or press the up/down arrows to display the paper type options, and then press the option you want.

4. Press the back arrow.

5. Press [Paper Size].

6. Press the option you want.

7. Swipe up or down or press the up/down arrows to display the paper size options, and then press the option you want.

8. Press the Home button.

To get the best print quality from your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW, we recommend using the paper listed in the table below.

Use the ADF on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW when copying or scanning multiple-page, standard-sized documents.

1. Unfold the ADF document output support flap.

2. Fan the pages of your document well.

3. Stagger the pages and load the document face up and top edge first into the ADF.

4. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of your document.

Supported Document Sizes:

• Length: 147.3 mm to 355.6 mm

• Width: 105 mm to 215.9 mm

• Weight: 60 to 105 g/m²

IMPORTANT:

• The ADF can hold up to 50 pages of standard 80 g/m² paper.

• Do not use paper that is curled, wrinkled, folded, ripped, stapled, paper-clipped, pasted, or taped.

• Do not use cardboard, newspaper, or fabric.

• Do not pull on the document while it is feeding to avoid damaging the machine.

Use the scanner glass on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW to fax, copy, or scan one page at a time, or for items that cannot be fed through the ADF (like books).

1. To use the scanner glass, the ADF must be empty.

2. Lift the document cover.

3. Place the document on the scanner glass face down.

4. Place the corner of the page in the upper left corner of the scanner glass, aligning it with the guides.

5. Close the document cover. If the document is a book or is thick, gently press on the document cover.

Supported Document Sizes:

• Length: Up to 300 mm

• Width: Up to 215.9 mm

• Weight: Up to 2 kg

The following table shows the maximum unscannable and unprintable areas from the edges of commonly-used paper sizes on the BROTHER MFC-L3710CW. Your output will not reflect anything in these areas.

*Copy measurements are for a 1 in 1 copy at 100% document size.

Some types of paper may not perform well or may cause damage to your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW. To ensure the best performance and avoid damage not covered by warranty, DO NOT use paper:

• that is highly textured

• that is extremely smooth or shiny

• that is curled or warped

• that is coated or has a chemical finish

• that is damaged, creased or folded

• that exceeds the recommended weight specification in this guide

• with tabs and staples

• with letterheads using low temperature dyes or thermography

• that is multipart or carbonless

• that is designed for inkjet printing (DO NOT use inkjet paper; it may cause a paper jam or damage your machine)

Always test paper samples before purchasing them to ensure desirable performance.

To cancel a single print job on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW, press the Cancel button (X) on the control panel.

To cancel multiple print jobs at once, press and hold the Cancel button (X) for about four seconds.

If you are experiencing problems with print quality, you can print a test page to diagnose the issue. Follow these steps for your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW:

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [Printer] > [Print Options] > [Test Print].

2. Press [Yes].

3. Press the Home button.

The machine will print a Test Print page.

To make a copy on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW, follow these steps:

1. Make sure you have loaded the correct size paper in the paper tray.

2. Place the document either face up in the ADF (recommended for multiple pages) or face down on the scanner glass.

3. Press [Copy] on the touchscreen.

4. Change the copy settings if needed. You can enter the number of copies, and press [Options] to change settings like density, enlarge/reduce, 2-sided copy, etc., for the next copy only.

5. Press [Colour Start] for a color copy or [Mono Start] for a black and white copy.

To send a fax from your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW:

1. Place the document face up in the ADF or face down on the scanner glass.

2. Press [Fax] on the touchscreen.

3. Enter the fax number using one of the following methods:

• Dial Pad: Press the numbers on the control panel.

• Address Book: Press [Address Book], then select the recipient.

• Call History: Press [Call History], select [Outgoing Call], and choose a number.

4. Press [Fax Start]. The machine will scan and send the document.

If you used the scanner glass, the machine will ask if you want to scan another page. Press [Yes] to scan the next page, or [No] to send the document.

You must choose a Receive Mode depending on the external devices and telephone services you have on your line. Your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW has four receive modes:

• Fax Only: Automatically answers every call as a fax.

• Fax/Tel: Recognises whether calls are fax or voice. It receives faxes automatically and produces a fast double-ring for voice calls to signal you to pick up.

• External TAD: For use with an external telephone answering device. The machine listens for fax tones and takes over the call if it’s a fax.

• Manual: Turns off automatic answering. You must answer every call and press the appropriate buttons to receive a fax.

To change the mode:

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [Fax] > [Setup Receive] > [Receive Mode].

2. Press the mode you want to select: [Fax Only], [Fax/Tel], [External TAD], or [Manual].

3. Press the Home button.

You can check your machine’s information from the control panel of your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW. Follow these steps:

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [Machine Info.].

2. Press one of the following options to view the information:

3. After viewing, press the Home button to return to the main screen.

When the LCD indicates you need to replace a toner cartridge, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on.

2. Open the top cover until it locks in the open position.

3. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the colour shown on the LCD.

4. Push down the green lock lever and remove the old toner cartridge from the drum unit.

5. Unpack the new toner cartridge and remove its protective cover.

6. Insert the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place.

7. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and back several times. Ensure the tab is returned to the home position (▲).

8. Slide the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine, matching the toner colour to the colour label.

9. Repeat for any other toner cartridges that need replacing.

10. Close the machine’s top cover. Do not turn the machine off until the display returns to Ready Mode.

When the LCD indicates you need to replace the drum unit, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the machine is turned on and the top cover is closed.

2. Open the top cover until it locks in the open position.

3. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the colour shown on the LCD.

4. Push down the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit. Set it aside on a protected surface.

5. Unpack the new drum unit and remove its protective cover.

6. Reinsert the toner cartridge firmly into the new drum unit until it locks into place.

7. Slide the toner cartridge and new drum unit assembly back into the machine.

8. Close the machine’s top cover.

9. Reset the drum counter for the color you replaced:

• Press and hold the toner icon for about five seconds.

• Press [Drum].

• Select the colour of the drum unit you just replaced.

• Press [Yes].

If your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW is not printing, try these troubleshooting steps:

• Check Power: Ensure the machine is not in Power Off mode. Press the power button on the control panel to turn it on.

• Check for Errors: Look at the machine’s control panel or the Status Monitor on your computer for any error messages (e.g., “No Paper”, “Jam”). Resolve any errors displayed.

• Check Connections: Make sure the interface cable is securely connected to both the machine and the computer. For a wireless connection, ensure it is set up correctly.

• Check Printer Status (Online/Offline):

– Windows: Go to ‘Devices and Printers’ or ‘Printers & Scanners’ in the Control Panel. Right-click your Brother machine, select ‘See what’s printing’, click ‘Printer’ in the menu bar, and make sure ‘Use Printer Offline’ is not checked.

– Mac: Open ‘System Preferences’ and select ‘Printers & Scanners’. If the machine is offline, delete it using the ‘–’ button and add it again using the ‘+’ button.

• Check Print Queue: If a failed print job is stuck in your computer’s print queue, delete it and try printing again.

• Check Driver: Confirm that the correct Brother printer driver is selected in your application’s Print window.

The action to take depends on where the paper jam is located in your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW. Always unplug the machine and wait for it to cool down before reaching inside.

• Jam in the Paper Tray: Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine. Slowly pull out the jammed paper with both hands. Fan the paper stack, ensure it is below the maximum paper mark, and reinsert the tray firmly.

• Jam Inside the Machine: Open the top cover. Remove all four toner cartridge and drum unit assemblies and place them on a protected surface. Gently pull the jammed paper out. Reinsert the drum and toner assemblies, then close the top cover.

• Jam in the Back of the Machine: Leave the machine on for 10 minutes to cool. Open the back cover. Pull the green tabs to release the fuser cover. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit. Close the fuser cover and the back cover.

• Jam in the Manual Feed Slot: Gently remove any paper that is jammed in or around the manual feed slot.

• Jam in the Output Paper Tray: Use both hands to open the scanner unit and remove the jammed paper from the output tray.

Always make sure to remove any small, torn pieces of paper to prevent future jams.

The “Access Denied” error message on your BROTHER MFC-L3710CW indicates that the function you are trying to use is restricted by the Secure Function Lock 3.0 feature. You will need to contact your machine’s administrator to check your Secure Function Lock settings and request access if needed.

The “Replace Toner” message indicates that the toner cartridge for the colour shown on the LCD is at the end of its life. The machine will stop all print operations until the cartridge is replaced. You must replace the toner cartridge for the indicated colour to resume printing.

If you have print quality problems such as vertical streaks, cleaning the corona wires may solve the issue.

1. Open the top cover of the machine until it locks in the open position.

2. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly for the color you want to clean.

3. Gently slide the green tab on the drum unit from left to right and right to left several times to clean the corona wire inside.

4. Be sure to return the green tab to the Home position (▲). The arrow on the tab must be aligned with the arrow on the drum unit. If it is not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.

5. Repeat for all four drum units.

6. Reinsert the toner and drum assemblies into the machine.

7. Close the machine’s top cover.

You can reset all of the machine’s settings to the settings that were originally set at the factory. Brother strongly recommends performing this operation when you dispose of the machine to erase all personal data.

1. Press [Settings] > [All Settings] > [Initial Setup] > [Reset].

2. Swipe up or down or press the arrows to display the [Factory Reset] option, and then press it.

3. A confirmation message will appear: `[Machine will reboot after resetting. Press [OK] for 2 seconds to confirm.]`

4. Press and hold [OK] for two seconds to confirm.

The machine will restart and all settings will be restored to their factory defaults.

Note: Unplug the interface cable before you choose the Factory Reset function.
