To load and play the demo song on the BOSS BR-864, follow these steps:

1. Press UTILITY.

2. Press CURSOR left until “SONG SELECT [SEL]” is displayed, and then press ENTER/YES.

3. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select 01:Dreamin’, and then press ENTER/YES.

4. Bring up the TRACK MIXER faders, the MASTER fader, and the RHYTHM GUIDE fader.

5. Press PLAY to listen to the demo song.

Follow these steps to create a new song on the BOSS BR-864:

1. Press UTILITY.

2. Press CURSOR right until “SONG NEW [NEW]” is displayed, and then press ENTER/YES.

3. Select DATA TYPE HiFi (MT2)—for the highest quality recording and playback—and then press ENTER/YES.

4. When the BOSS BR-864 asks, “Are you sure?” press ENTER/YES.

Note: Once the data type is selected, it cannot be changed for this particular song.

1. Plug your guitar into the GUITAR/BASS input.

2. Turn on the GUITAR/BASS input by pressing the far left INPUT SELECT button so it lights red.

3. Adjust the GUITAR/BASS SENS knob until its red PEAK light flashes occasionally when the guitar is played at its loudest level.

4. Adjust the INPUT LEVEL knob until the meter on the LCD screen stays between -12 and -4.

You can run a guitar through a COSM guitar amp by “inserting” it on the guitar input of the BOSS BR-864 using the following steps:

1. By default, the COSM EFFECTS button is lit red. If it is not, press the button to light it.

2. Press the COSM EFFECTS button again to see the effects patch list.

3. Select a patch such as P29:Tube Stck (for “Tube Stack”) by turning the TIME/VALUE dial.

4. Press EXIT to return to the main screen.

1. Press the ARRANGE/PATTERN/OFF button several times until it flashes red.

2. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select a pattern such as P098:POP1-V1.

3. Press EXIT to return to the main screen.

4. Cursor to the tempo at the top-right corner of the screen and turn the TIME/VALUE dial to change it to the desired tempo, or “BPM.”

5. Press PLAY or REC to start the drum pattern.

6. Raise the STEREO RHYTHM/LOOP fader to the desired listening volume.

1. To select and arm a track for recording, press the TRACK 1-4/5-8 button to switch between Tracks 1-4 and Tracks 5-8.

2. Press the round REC TRACK button for the track you wish to record. Double-check your input level and adjust it if necessary.

3. Press the REC button—it flashes red to indicate the BOSS BR-864 is ready to start recording.

4. Press PLAY to start recording.

5. When you are finished recording, press STOP.

6. Press the ZERO button to rewind to the beginning of the song.

7. Press PLAY to listen to your recorded track.

Note: When you record a song, the BOSS BR-864 saves it for you automatically.

1. Press the LOOP EFFECTS button.

2. Cursor to “[REV],” and then press ENTER/YES.

3. Cursor to the track you have just recorded.

4. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to adjust the Send level on the desired track—this adjusts how much reverb is added to the track.

Note: You can add chorus or delay the same way using the CHORUS/DELAY button.

To combine or “bounce” all your recorded tracks onto a set of stereo tracks (Tracks 7/8), follow these steps:

1. Press the REC MODE button repeatedly until “Rec Mode>BOUNCE” appears onscreen.

2. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select Tracks 7/8—shown onscreen as “78V1″—for mixdown.

3. Press ENTER/YES.

4. Press the REC button so it flashes red, and then press PLAY to begin mixing down.

5. The round STATUS lights for your playback tracks are lit green—if you like, you can move them to adjust your track levels as the song plays.

6. Press STOP when you have reached the end of the song, or the point at which you want to stop the mixdown.

7. Press ZERO and then PLAY to play back the mix on Tracks 7/8.

After mixing down, you can use the MTK effects to master your mix:

1. Press the REC MODE button so “Rec Mode>MASTRING” appears onscreen.

2. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select Source:78V1, and then press ENTER/YES—the screen now shows “Target:78V2.”

3. Press ENTER/YES.

4. Press the COSM EFFECTS button to display the MTK effect list. MTK>P01:Mix Down (MSTR TOOL KIT) appears by default.

5. Cursor to “01” right and turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select the desired preset MTK effect.

6. Press EXIT/NO to return to the main screen.

7. Press REC to go into Recording Standby mode, and then press PLAY to start recording—mastering begins.

8. When the BOSS BR-864 reaches the end of the song, press STOP.

9. Play back Tracks 78V2 to listen to the mastered tracks.

To export track data to a computer for CD burning or other uses, follow this procedure. Note that you must have enough room on your memory card for the BOSS BR-864 to create a copy of the selected tracks in the desired format.

1. Connect the computer to the BOSS BR-864 using the USB cable.

2. Press the BOSS BR-864’s USB button.

3. Turn the TIME/VALUE dial to select Type:EXPORT, and then press ENTER/YES.

4. Cursor left or right to select the desired file format: .WAV (Windows) or AIFF (Mac).

5. Press ENTER/YES.

6. Use the CURSOR buttons and/or the TIME/VALUE dial to select the track you would like to convert to .WAV or AIFF.

7. Press ENTER/YES—the audio is exported to the computer and converted to the selected format.

8. If you are using a Windows PC—go to “My Computer” and double-click the Boss_BR-864 or Removable Disk icon. If you are using a Mac—double-click the Boss_BR-864 icon.

9. Drag the .WAV or AIFF file from the BOSS BR-864’s USB folder to the computer’s desktop.
