To install the telephone base of your AT&T DLP73540, follow these steps:

1. Plug the power adapter into the power jack on the back of the telephone base.

2. Route the power cord through the slots provided.

3. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

4. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the telephone jack on the back of the base.

5. Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.

Note: If you have DSL high-speed Internet service, a DSL filter (not included) is required. The DSL filter must be plugged into the telephone wall jack.

Follow these steps to install the battery in your AT&T DLP73540 handset:

1. Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset’s battery compartment.

2. Place the battery with the “THIS SIDE UP” label facing up and the wires inside the compartment.

3. Slide the battery compartment cover towards the center of the handset until it clicks into place.

4. Charge the handset by placing it face forward in the telephone base or charger.

You should charge your handset(s) before initial use. The battery is fully charged after 11 hours of continuous charging. The CHARGE light on the top of the handset will be on during charging.

Caution: Use only the supplied rechargeable battery (model BT162342/BT262342) or a replacement battery of the same model.

After you install your AT&T DLP73540 or power returns after an outage, the handset and base will prompt you to set the date and time. You should set the date and time before using the answering system.

Using a cordless handset or the telephone base:

1. Press MENU.

2. Scroll with the up/down arrows to select Set date/time and press SELECT.

3. Enter the month (MM), day (DD), and year (YY) using the keypad, then press SELECT.

4. Enter the hour (HH) and minute (MM).

5. Use the up/down arrows to choose AM or PM and press SELECT.

To skip setting the date and time, press OFF/CANCEL on the handset or CANCEL on the telephone base.

Your AT&T DLP73540 is compatible with Bluetooth version 2.0 or above devices. Keep the connected device within 15 feet of the telephone base for optimal performance.

To pair and connect a cell phone using the telephone base:

1. Press MENU, then scroll to Bluetooth and press SELECT.

2. Press SELECT to select Add cellular.

3. Press SELECT again to turn on the telephone base discoverable mode.

4. Place the cell phone next to the telephone base. Turn on your cell phone’s Bluetooth feature and search for or add new devices. Once your cell phone finds your AT&T phone (AT&T DECT 6.0), press the appropriate key on your cell phone to continue the pairing process.

To pair and connect a headset using the telephone base:

1. Press MENU, then scroll to Bluetooth and press SELECT.

2. Scroll down to Add headset and press SELECT.

3. Set your headset to discoverable mode, then press SELECT.

Making a home or cell call using a cordless handset:

• For a home call, press HOME/FLASH or SPEAKER, then enter the telephone number.

• For a cell call, press CELL, enter the telephone number, and press SELECT.

Making a home or cell call using the telephone base:

• For a home call, press HOME, then enter the telephone number.

• For a cell call, press CELL, enter the telephone number, and press SELECT.

Using on-hook dialing (predialing) with a cordless handset:

• Enter the telephone number first, then press HOME/FLASH, CELL, or SPEAKER to make the call.

Using on-hook dialing (predialing) with the telephone base:

• Enter the telephone number first, then press HOME or CELL to make the call.

Answering a home or cell call:

• Using a cordless handset: Press HOME/FLASH, CELL, SPEAKER, or any dialing key (0-9 or TONE *).

• Using the telephone base: Press HOME, CELL, or any dialing key (0-9 or TONE *).

Ending a call:

• Using a cordless handset: Press OFF/CANCEL or return the handset to the telephone base or charger.

• Using the telephone base: Press HOME or CELL.

The directory can store up to 1,000 entries, which are shared by all system devices.

Adding an entry to the directory:

1. Press MENU, scroll to Directory, and press SELECT.

2. Select Add new entry and press SELECT.

3. Enter a telephone number (up to 30 digits) and press SELECT.

4. Enter a name (up to 15 characters) and press SELECT.

Searching and dialing from the directory:

1. Press DIR on the handset or telephone base in idle mode.

2. Scroll with the up/down arrows to select the desired entry.

3. To call using the home line, press HOME/FLASH on the handset or HOME on the base.

4. To call using the cell line, press CELL on the handset or CELL on the base.

Downloading a cell phone directory:

Before downloading, ensure your cell phone is paired, active, and connected to your AT&T DLP73540.

1. On the telephone base, press MENU, scroll to Bluetooth, and press SELECT.

2. Scroll to Download dir and press SELECT.

3. Press SELECT to start downloading.

If you have connected a cell phone to your AT&T DLP73540, you can activate the voice-controlled application (voice app) of the cell phone, such as Siri®, Google Now™, or S Voice®, using the handset or telephone base.

Compatibility:

Before using remote voice control, ensure the following:

• Your cell phone is paired and connected to your telephone system via Bluetooth.

• No other Bluetooth applications are running in the background of your cell phone.

• Keep your cell phone within 15 feet of the telephone base.

• Do not lock your cell phone’s screen or set a passcode for activating the voice app.

• You have turned on or logged into the applications on your cell phone that you will be sending voice commands to (e.g., GPS, e-mail).

• Your cell phone has a strong data or Wi-Fi signal and can connect to the Internet.

To activate remote voice control:

1. Press VOICE. If you have two connected cell phones, use the up/down arrows to select a device.

2. When the telephone plays a confirmation tone, speak toward the handset or base, and then wait for feedback from the voice app.

3. Press CANCEL to exit.

The Smart call blocker feature is set to on by default and allows all incoming calls. To turn the feature on or off:

1. Press CALL BLOCK.

2. Press SELECT to choose SCB On/Off.

3. Use the up/down arrow to choose On or Off, then press SELECT.

Notes:

• The screening feature of Smart call blocker applies to incoming home calls only. All incoming cell calls will get through and ring by default. To block a cell call, you must add the number to the block list.

• If you turn off Smart call blocker, all incoming calls will ring, including numbers saved in your block list.

• When QUIET mode is on and Smart call blocker is on and in screening mode, all screened home calls will be sent to the answering system after screening.

The Smart call blocker feature categorizes calls and provides different options for handling them.

Add a caller ID log entry to the block list:

1. Press CID on the handset or telephone base and scroll to the desired entry.

2. Press SELECT.

3. Scroll to To Block list and press SELECT.

4. Press SELECT again to confirm.

Add a caller ID log entry to the allow list:

1. Press CID on the handset or telephone base and scroll to the desired entry.

2. Press SELECT.

3. Scroll to To Allow list and press SELECT.

4. Press SELECT again to confirm.

Manually add a new number to the block list:

1. Press CALL BLOCK.

2. Scroll to Block list and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to Add new entry and press SELECT.

4. Enter a telephone number (up to 30 digits) and press SELECT.

5. Enter a name (up to 15 characters) and press SELECT.

You can follow similar steps to manually add numbers to the Allow list and names to the Star name list.

If you are on a home or cell call and wish to block the caller, you can end the call with a block announcement and add the number to the block list.

1. During a home or cell call, press CALL BLOCK.

2. Press SELECT to end the call. The number will be added to the block list.

If you have added a telephone number to the block list, you can unblock it.

1. Press CALL BLOCK.

2. Scroll to Block list and press SELECT.

3. Press SELECT to select Review.

4. Use the up/down arrows to browse through the block entries.

5. When the desired entry is displayed, press DELETE, then press SELECT to confirm.

Turn the answering system on or off:

• Using a cordless handset: Press MENU -> Answering sys -> SELECT -> Answer on/off -> SELECT. Choose On or Off and press SELECT. When on, the handset shows ANS ON.

• Using the telephone base: Press /ANS ON. The system will announce, “Calls will be answered” or “Calls will not be answered.”

Message playback:

• Using the telephone base: Press /PLAY/STOP when the base is in idle mode.

• Using a cordless handset: Press MENU then SELECT when the handset is in idle mode.

Options during playback:

• CHARGE light: On when the handset is charging.

• VOL ▲ DIR: Shows directory entries. Scrolls up in menus. Increases listening volume.

• VOL ▼ CID: Shows caller ID log. Scrolls down in menus. Decreases listening volume.

• CELL: Makes or answers a cell call. Answers an incoming cell call during a cell call (call waiting). Calls back the caller during message playback.

• HOME/FLASH: Makes or answers a home call. Answers an incoming home call during a call (call waiting). Calls back the caller during message playback.

• 1: While reviewing a caller ID entry, press repeatedly to add or remove ‘1’ in front of the number. Press and hold to set or dial your voicemail number.

• TONE */a>A: Switches to tone dialing temporarily. Changes letter case when entering names.

• /SPEAKER: Makes or answers a home or cell call using the speakerphone. Switches between speakerphone and handset.

• MUTE/DELETE/VOICE: Mutes the microphone during a call. Deletes an entry or digit. Activates the voice-controlled application of a connected cell phone.

• MENU/SELECT: Shows the menu. Selects an item or saves an entry in a menu.

• CALL BLOCK: Blocks an incoming call. Shows the call block menu.

• OFF/CANCEL: Hangs up a call. Cancels an operation or backs up in a menu. Press and hold to exit to idle mode. Mutes the ringer temporarily. Press and hold to erase the missed call indicator.

• QUIET# (pound key): Displays dialing options for caller ID log entries. Press and hold to enter or deactivate QUIET mode.

• PTT (PUSH TO TALK): Initiates a one-to-one or one-to-group broadcast. Press and hold to broadcast to a group of system devices.

• REDIAL/PAUSE: Views the last 10 numbers dialed. Press and hold to insert a dialing pause.
