What should I do if my ANKO DMD301 vacuum cleaner overheats and switches off?
The ANKO DMD301 motor has an overheating protection device built in. It will automatically switch off the power to the motor if it overheats, for example, from blocked nozzles, a full dust canister, or uncleaned blocked filters.
If this happens, follow these steps:
1. Switch off the vacuum and unplug it from the power point.
2. Clean any blockages and/or clean the filters.
3. Allow the vacuum to rest for approximately 1 hour to allow the motor to cool down. The cooling time may vary depending on the ambient temperature.
Important: You must switch off and unplug the vacuum from the power point for the safety device to reset. It will not reset if you leave it plugged in and switched on.
NOTE: NEVER BLOCK ANY VENTS OR OPENINGS AND KEEP FILTERS CLEAN.
How do I operate the ANKO DMD301 vacuum cleaner?
Power On / Off Switch:
The Motor On / Off switch is located on the floor head. To turn the motor on, use your foot to press and release the On / Off Switch. Press and release the switch again to turn it off.
Floor Head Release:
1. To lower the handle for vacuuming, place your foot on the top of the floor head to hold it firmly on the floor.
2. Pull the vacuum cleaner handle back. The floor head latching mechanism will release with a “click” noise, and you can begin vacuuming.
3. Keep the vacuum cleaner moving backward and forward. Do not allow the Floor Head Rotary Brush to spin in one spot as this will damage the carpet.
4. When finished, lift the handle up and push it forward to lock it in the upright park position, then turn the vacuum off.
WARNING: When the handle is lifted back up to the park position and locked in place, the Floor Head Rotary Brush will continue to rotate. It is strongly recommended that you do not allow the vacuum to sit in one spot while the brush is rotating as this may cause damage to the flooring surface.
How do I use the tools and flexible hose with the ANKO DMD301?
The ANKO DMD301 comes with a flexible hose that can be used with the crevice tool, brush tool, or the handle (wand) for extra reach.
Using Tools Directly with the Hose:
1. First, pull the removable hose end straight out from the back of the Floor Head.
2. Take the crevice tool (for tight areas and corners) or the brush tool (for furniture and surfaces) and slide it onto the end of the hose connector.
3. You are now ready to use the tool.
Using the Handle (Wand) for Extra Reach:
1. Remove the Handle from the top of the vacuum cleaner by pressing down the Release Lever and then pulling the Handle straight up and out.
2. Connect the end of the hose coupling to the top end of the Handle. Align the locking pin on the side of the hose coupling with the slot in the end of the handle, push in, and then rotate clockwise to lock.
3. Take the crevice or brush tool and slide it onto the end of the Handle (Wand).
4. You are now ready to use the tool with extra reach.
CAUTION: Use extra care when vacuuming on stairs. Take care not to trip on the power cable or flexible hose and keep your work area well-lit. When finished, the vacuum cleaner can be reassembled for use as an upright vacuum cleaner.

How do I clean the filters on the ANKO DMD301 vacuum cleaner?
WARNING: The vacuum cleaner MUST be switched off and unplugged before any maintenance. The filters must be cleaned regularly for best suction performance. Never use the vacuum with wet or damp filters.
Cleaning the Main Filter (inside the dust canister):
1. Remove the Dust Canister as described in the emptying instructions.
2. Open the lid of the dust canister by rotating it anticlockwise, then pull the lid straight up and off.
3. With the lid removed, grasp the filter and pull it straight up and out.
4. To clean the filter, you can tap it on a hard surface to dislodge dust. If it is very dirty, wash the filter in warm mild soapy water, rinse in clean fresh cold water, and let it completely dry. DO NOT scrub the filter, place it in a dishwasher, or use a hair dryer to dry it.
5. At the same time, the filter holder can be removed for cleaning. Grasp the sides of the holder and pull it straight up and out.
6. The filter holder has a dust separator at the bottom. To remove it, hold the top part and rotate the dust separator clockwise to unclip, then pull the two apart. Wash both parts in warm mild soapy water and let them dry completely.
7. To reassemble, refit the Dust Separator onto the end of the filter holder by pushing on and rotating anticlockwise until it locks. Place the filter back into the top of the dust separator and push it down firmly.
8. Replace the filter holder back into the Dust Canister, ensuring the Locating Lug on the holder aligns with the mating notch in the canister lip, and push it in all the way.
9. Refit the Dust Canister lid by aligning the Triangle Mark on the lid with the Unlocked Padlock Symbol on the canister. Rotate clockwise until the Triangle Mark aligns with the Locked Padlock Symbol.
Cleaning the Pre-Motor Filter:
1. The pre-motor filter is located in the bottom section of the vacuum where the dust canister sits.
2. Lift the front tab of the filter cover upward and pull it straight up and off to expose the filter.
3. Grasp the Filter and pull it straight up and out.
4. To clean, tap the filter on a hard surface. If very dirty, wash in warm mild soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely. DO NOT scrub it or use a hair dryer.
5. Refit the clean, dry filter (or a new one) back into the vacuum, pushing down firmly to ensure it is seated properly.
6. Refit the cover and push down firmly to lock it in place.
It is recommended to replace the filters every 3 – 6 months, or sooner if required.
How do I clean the dust canister, body, and tools of the ANKO DMD301?

3. Grasp the right side of the brush bar and pull it out, then pull the left side out.
4. Slip the drive belt off the end of the brush bar and remove the brush bar for cleaning.
5. IMPORTANT: Do not wash the brush bar or get it wet. Use scissors or a utility knife to cut away any hair and debris, and use a brush to clean off any dirt.
Reassembly:
1. Before refitting, clean the area in the floor head where the brush bar locates.
2. Feed the bulbus end of the brush bar through the drive belt.
3. Align the plates on the ends of the brush bar with their mating slots in the floor head, then push in all the way.
4. Refit the Brush Guard by locating it over the front of the floor head and pushing on firmly.
5. Secure the guard in place with the seven screws and tighten. Do Not Overtighten.
How do I replace the drive belt on the ANKO DMD301?
If the rubber drive belt breaks, it is likely due to the rotary brush bar being jammed while the motor was running.
1. Switch off and unplug the vacuum cleaner.
2. Remove the brush guard and the rotary brush bar as described in the “Cleaning the Rotary Brush Bar” section.
3. Remove the broken rubber belt and discard it.
4. Take the new Rubber Drive Belt and slide it onto the motor spindle.

6. Reattach the brush guard cover with the seven screws and tighten. Do Not Overtighten.
Why won’t my ANKO DMD301 vacuum cleaner switch on?
If your ANKO DMD301 will not switch on, check the following:
Plugged in correctly: Ensure the plug is properly plugged into the power point and the switch at the power point is turned on.
Power supply: Check that there is power at the power point. You can test this by plugging in another appliance like a table lamp.
On/Off Switch: Make sure you have pressed the On/Off switch on the vacuum cleaner’s floor head.
Motor Overheated: The motor thermostat may have tripped. Refer to the troubleshooting steps for “Over-heating / Stopping”.
What should I do if my ANKO DMD301 is making a noisy operation?
If the vacuum cleaner is unusually noisy, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
Blocked Filters: The filters may be clogged. Clean the Filters and empty the Dust Canister.
Blocked Air Passage: There may be a partial blockage in the hose, wand, or floor head. Check for blockages and unblock them.
Why does my ANKO DMD301 have weak suction?
If the suction power is not strong, please check these possible causes:
Blocked Filters: The filters are likely blocked. Clean the Filters and empty the Dust Canister.
Blocked Air Passage: Check the hose, wand, and floor head for blockages and clear them.
Hose Connection: Ensure the flexible hose has been reconnected properly to the floor head.
Filters not installed: Ensure all filters have been installed, and installed correctly.
Dust Canister not attached correctly: Ensure the dust canister has been fitted correctly and that the small arrow on the dust canister lid aligns with the Locked Padlock Symbol when rotated to the locked position.
What should I do if my ANKO DMD301 is over-heating or stopping during use?
If the motor has overheated and stopped, it has activated the thermal protection device. You should switch off and unplug the vacuum from the power point. Then, clean or replace the Filters, empty the Dust Canister, and check for blockages in the hose and floor head. Unblock any obstructions found. Allow the appliance to cool for approximately 1 hour before trying to restart.
My ANKO DMD301 won’t restart after overheating and resting for an hour. What’s wrong?
There are two common reasons for this:
Not enough cooling time: The motor may not have cooled down sufficiently. Allow an additional half an hour to cool down.
Safety device not reset: You must switch off and unplug the vacuum from the power point for the safety device to reset. It will not reset if you leave it plugged in and switched on.
Why is there a smell of burning rubber coming from my ANKO DMD301?
A burning rubber smell indicates that the Rotary Brush Bar in the Floor Head is jammed and the rubber drive belt is slipping. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum. Refer to the User Maintenance section for instructions on cleaning the brush bar to remove the jam.
The motor on my ANKO DMD301 is running but the rotary brush bar is not rotating. What is the cause?
This is caused by a jammed Rotary Brush Bar in the Floor Head, which has caused the rubber drive belt to break. You will need to replace the drive belt as described in the maintenance section of the manual.
Why do I sometimes feel a static shock when using the ANKO DMD301 vacuum cleaner?
In some rare instances, a user may feel an electric discharge when touching or using the vacuum cleaner. This is a well-known phenomenon of Static Electricity discharge that happens mostly when vacuuming a synthetic fibre carpet or other synthetic surfaces. It can also be more prevalent in dry and cool environments. Although the feeling of Static Electricity can be unpleasant, it is not dangerous and is not a fault of the vacuum cleaner. If this static discharge is a problem for you, you could try wearing insulating footwear during vacuuming (i.e., rubber or leather soles) or increase the humidity/heat level in the surrounding environment, or both.
