How can I reduce the risk of electric shock when using the ANDIS FHC?

To reduce the risk of electric shock:

1. Do not reach for your ANDIS FHC if it has fallen into water. Unplug it immediately.

2. Do not use your ANDIS FHC while bathing or in a shower.

3. Do not place or store your ANDIS FHC where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink. Do not place it in or drop it into water or other liquid.

4. Always unplug your ANDIS FHC immediately after using.

5. Always turn OFF your ANDIS FHC and unplug it before cleaning, removing, or assembling parts.

How can I reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury to persons when using the ANDIS FHC?

To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury to persons:

1. Never leave your ANDIS FHC unattended when plugged in.

2. Close supervision is necessary when your ANDIS FHC is used by, on, or near children or individuals with certain disabilities.

3. Do not use attachments not recommended by Andis with your ANDIS FHC.

4. Never operate your ANDIS FHC if its cord or plug is damaged, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Return your ANDIS FHC to an Andis Authorized Service Station for examination and repair.

5. Do not wrap the cord around your ANDIS FHC. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces and objects.

6. Never drop or insert any object into any opening of your ANDIS FHC.

7. Do not use your ANDIS FHC outdoors or operate it where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.

8. To avoid injury, do not use your ANDIS FHC with broken or damaged blades or cutter guides, as skin injury may occur.

9. To disconnect your ANDIS FHC, turn control to OFF, then remove the plug from the outlet.

10. During use, do not place your ANDIS FHC where it is likely to be (1) damaged by an animal or (2) exposed to the weather.

11. Before clipping, make sure the power cord is out of the way of animals. Do not let animals step on the power cord or become entangled in it.

12. Avoid all contact with your ANDIS FHC blades when the appliance is ON.

13. Wear safety glasses and gloves when using your ANDIS FHC.

What is the intended use for the ANDIS FHC clipper?

This ANDIS FHC appliance is intended for exclusive livestock use. Do not use it on other animals or persons. Never clip wet hair on animals.

How do I connect the ANDIS FHC to power?

To reduce the risk of electric shock, the ANDIS FHC has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way. Plug the cord into any 120 volt, 60 Hz AC electrical outlet or as specified on the ANDIS FHC housing.

What should I do before clipping an animal with the ANDIS FHC?

Some animals can become startled or nervous around a clipper. Before clipping, make sure the animal is tied securely so it cannot kick or move suddenly. Try to make the animal more comfortable by approaching it from the front and switching the ANDIS FHC clipper ON within its range of vision.

How do I operate the 2-speed function on my ANDIS FHC?

The ANDIS FHC offers two speeds: normal and high. To start clipping, slide the switch to position 1 or 2 by pressing in the lock mechanism (Figure A). Use normal (setting 1) for most clipping and high (setting 2) for thick hair. To stop, press in the red lock mechanism and move the switch button to the home position.

How do I remove the blade set from the ANDIS FHC?

Before removing the ANDIS FHC blade set, make sure the clipper is OFF and UNPLUGGED. Push the blade release mechanism under the blade hinge (Figure B). While holding down the blade release mechanism, push the blade and slide it gently forward (Figure C) and off the hinge. If the hinge is closed and flush with the ANDIS FHC, use a small screwdriver to pry open the hinge tongue (Figure D). Hair may accumulate in the front cavity of the ANDIS FHC, under the blade. If this occurs, the cavity can be cleaned with a small brush or old toothbrush while the blade is removed.

How do I replace or change the blade set on the ANDIS FHC?

To replace or change the ANDIS FHC blade set, slide the blade support onto the ANDIS FHC hinge (Figure E) and push the blade towards the ANDIS FHC to lock into position.

What kind of maintenance does a double-insulated ANDIS FHC require?

On a double-insulated ANDIS FHC, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a means for grounding be added to the product. Servicing a double-insulated appliance requires extreme care and knowledge of the system and should be done only by qualified service personnel. Replacement parts must be identical to those parts being replaced. A double-insulated clipper is marked with the words “DOUBLE INSULATION” or “DOUBLE INSULATED”. This symbol may also appear on the ANDIS FHC.

How should I manage the blade temperature of my ANDIS FHC?

Due to the high-speed nature of ANDIS FHC clippers, check blade heat often, especially for close-cutting blades. If blades get too hot, dip the blades in Andis Blade Care Plus or apply Andis Cool Care Plus and then Andis Clipper Oil. If you have a detachable blade unit, you can change blades to maintain a comfortable temperature; using multiple blades of the same size is popular with professional groomers.

How do I care for and service the blades of my ANDIS FHC?

You should lubricate ANDIS FHC blades before, during, and after each use. If ANDIS FHC blades leave streaks or slow down, it is a sure sign they need oil. Place a few drops of oil across the front and sides of the ANDIS FHC clipper blades (Figure F). Wipe excess oil off blades with a soft, dry cloth. Aerosol lubricants do not contain enough oil to lubricate properly, but are excellent ANDIS FHC clipper coolants. Always replace broken or nicked blades to prevent injury. You can clear excess hair from blades by using a small brush or old toothbrush.

To clean blades, we suggest that you immerse only the blades into a shallow pan of Andis clipper oil while the ANDIS FHC is running. Any excess hair and dirt that has accumulated between the blades should be cleared away. After cleaning, turn the ANDIS FHC OFF and wipe the blades dry with a soft cloth, then begin clipping again.

What should I do if my ANDIS FHC blades still won’t cut after cleaning?

If after cleaning your ANDIS FHC blades you find that the blades still will not cut, there may be fine hair trapped between the upper and lower blades. If this occurs, you will need to disassemble the ANDIS FHC blade from the clipper. Proceed to slide the upper blade to one side, without loosening the tension spring, or moving the upper blade completely out from under the tension spring. Clean the surface between the blades with a dry, clean cloth, then place one drop of Andis clipper oil at the point where the upper and lower blades meet and also in the guide slot of the tension spring (Figure G).

Now slide the upper blade to the opposite side of the lower blade (Figure H) and repeat this process. After completing this procedure, slide the upper blade, centering it over the lower blade. Store your ANDIS FHC clipper with the blades down so that excess oil does not get into the ANDIS FHC casing.

How do I clean and store my ANDIS FHC?

After clipping, remove all oil and dirt from the ANDIS FHC clipper housing by rubbing it with a soft, dry cloth. Before storing, make sure the blades are clean and oiled to prevent rust, as even a small amount of rust can affect clipping performance. Store your ANDIS FHC clipper in its storage case, in a dry, clean place out of the reach of children.

What should I do when the ANDIS FHC blades lose their edge?

When your ANDIS FHC blades lose their edge after repeated use, it is advised to purchase a new set of blades, available through your Andis supplier or through an Andis Authorized Service Station. Some blade sets can be resharpened.

Are there any specific precautions to take when handling the ANDIS FHC with water?

Never handle your ANDIS FHC clipper while operating a water faucet, and never hold your clipper under a water faucet or submerge it in water. Danger of electrical shock and damage to the clipper exists.
