To clean your ACER X1220H projector, follow these steps:

1. Turn the product off and unplug it from the wall outlet before cleaning.

2. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.

3. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

When setting up your ACER X1220H, please adhere to the following location precautions:

• Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible and close to the operator.

• Do not use this product near water.

• Do not place the projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table, as it could be seriously damaged if it falls.

• The slots and openings are for ventilation and must not be blocked or covered. Do not place the projector on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface.

• This product should not be placed near or over a radiator or heat register, or in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.

• To avoid damage to internal components, do not place the product on a vibrating surface. Do not use it during sporting, exercising, or in any vibrating environment.

• Do not place the product in confined or poorly ventilated areas. The projector must have at least 50 cm of clearance from walls with free-flowing air around it.

• Avoid locations where temperatures may become excessively high, such as inside a closed car.

• Avoid locations with excessive humidity, dust, or cigarette smoke, which can contaminate optical components.

• Avoid locations near fire alarms, with an ambient temperature above 40° C/104° F, or where altitudes are higher than 10,000 feet.

Please follow these guidelines for using electrical power with your ACER X1220H projector:

• Operate the product from the type of power indicated on the marking label. If you are unsure, consult your dealer or local power company.

• Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this product where people will walk on the cord.

• If an extension cord is used, ensure that the total ampere rating of the equipment plugged into it does not exceed the extension cord’s ampere rating and the wall outlet’s fuse rating.

• Do not overload a power outlet, strip, or receptacle by plugging in too many devices. The total system load must not exceed 80% of the branch circuit rating.

• The ACER X1220H is equipped with a three-wire grounded plug. This is a safety feature and the plug only fits in a grounded power outlet. Ensure the outlet is properly grounded before use.

• Use the product only with the supplied power supply cord set. If you need a replacement, ensure it is a detachable type, UL listed/CSA certified, VDE approved or equivalent, and has a maximum length of 4.6 meters (15 feet).

You should not attempt to service the ACER X1220H yourself. Unplug the projector from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel in the following situations:

• The power cord or plug is damaged, cut, or frayed.

• Liquid has been spilled into the product.

• The product has been exposed to rain or water.

• The product has been dropped or the case has been damaged.

• The product exhibits a distinct change in performance.

• The product does not operate normally after following the operating instructions.

• Do not look directly into the projector’s lens when the lamp is on, as the light may hurt your eyes.

• Always turn on the projector first and then the signal sources.

• Do not face the projector lens towards the sun, as this can lead to fire.

• Do not frequently turn off the main power abruptly or unplug the projector during operation. It is best to wait for the fan to turn off before turning off the power.

• Do not touch the air outlet grille or bottom plate as they may become hot.

• Do not block the projector lens with any object during operation, as this could cause the object to become heated and deformed or even cause a fire.

• The lamp becomes extremely hot. Allow the projector to cool for approximately 45 minutes before removing the lamp assembly for replacement.

• Do not attempt to disassemble the projector. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

• Do not stand the projector on its end vertically, as it may fall over and cause injury or damage.

To protect your hearing, follow these instructions:

• Increase the volume gradually until you can hear clearly and comfortably.

• Do not increase the volume level after your ears have adjusted.

• Do not listen to music at high volumes for extended periods.

• Do not increase the volume to block out noisy surroundings.

• Decrease the volume if you can’t hear people speaking near you.

1. Ensure that the power cord and signal cable are securely connected. The power indicator LED will light blue.

2. Turn on the projector by pressing the POWER button on the control panel. The power indicator LED will flash and then turn blue.

3. Turn on your source (computer, notebook, video player, etc.). The projector will detect your source automatically.

• If the screen displays “No Signal”, please make sure the signal cables are securely connected.

• If you connect to multiple sources at the same time, use the SOURCE button on the remote control to switch between inputs.

1. To turn the projector off, press the power button. A message will appear: “Please press the power button again to complete the shutdown process.”

2. Press the power button again.

3. The shutdown process will vary depending on the “Turn Off Mode” setting (see “Management” menu).

4. Once the shutdown process finishes, the power indicator LED becomes steady blue.

5. It is now safe to unplug the power cord.

Projector Overheated. Lamp will automatically turn off soon. This message indicates that the projector has overheated. The lamp will automatically turn off, the projector will shut down, and the LED temp indicator will blink. Contact your local dealer or service center.

Fan Fail. Lamp will automatically turn off soon. This message indicates that the fan has failed. The lamp will automatically turn off, the projector will shut down, and the LED temp indicator will turn solid blue. Contact your local dealer or service center.

If the projector automatically shuts down and the power, temp, and lamp indicators blink, contact your local reseller or service center.

The ACER X1220H is equipped with an elevator foot. To adjust the image height, use the elevator foot to raise or lower the image to the desired height.

The following table provides the optimal screen sizes at various distances for the ACER X1220H. The zoom ratio is 1.1x.

To achieve a desired image size with your ACER X1220H, you can adjust the projector’s distance from the screen and use the zoom ring. For example, to get a 50-inch image, place the projector between 2.0 m and 2.2 m from the screen and adjust the zoom accordingly. Refer to the table below for specific sizes and distances.

The Installation menu provides an onscreen display (OSD) for projector installation and maintenance. This OSD is only available when the message “No signal input” is displayed on the screen.

1. Turn on the projector by pressing the POWER button.

2. Press the MENU button on the control pad to launch the Installation OSD.

3. A background pattern will appear to help guide adjustments for screen size, distance, focus, and more.

4. The menu includes the following options:

• Projection method

• Menu location

• Keystone settings

• Language settings

• Reset to factory defaults

5. Use the up and down arrow keys to select an option. Use the left and right arrow keys to adjust settings. The new settings are saved automatically when you exit the menu.

6. Press the MENU button at any time to exit and return to the Acer welcome screen.

The Acer Empowering Key (e) on the remote provides quick access to four specific functions:

• Acer eView Management: For display mode selection (e.g., Presentation, Video, Game).

• Acer eTimer Management: Offers a reminder function for presentation time control.

• Acer ePower Management: A shortcut to save lamp and projector life through settings like ECO Mode.

• Acer e3D Management: Offers quick access to 3D functions.

Press the ‘e’ key to launch the submenu for each function.

To use the multilingual Onscreen Display (OSD) on your ACER X1220H to make image adjustments, follow these steps:

1. Press the MENU button on the remote control to open the OSD.

2. When the OSD is displayed, use the ▲▼ keys to select a main menu item (e.g., Color, Image, Setting).

3. After selecting an item, press the ► key to enter its feature settings submenu.

4. Use the ▲▼ keys to select the specific item you want to adjust and use the ◄► keys to change its setting.

5. Press the MENU button to return to the main menu.

6. To exit the OSD, press the MENU button again. The OSD will close, and the projector will automatically save the new settings.

You can adjust the color settings in the OSD menu. Here are the available options:

• Display Mode: Choose from factory presets optimized for various types of images (Bright, Presentation, Standard, Video, Education, Picture, Game, User).

• Wall Color: Select a color (white, light yellow, light blue, pink, dark green) that matches your projection surface. The projector will compensate for the wall color to show the correct image tone.

• Brightness: Adjusts the brightness of the image. Press ◄ to darken and ► to lighten.

• Contrast: Controls the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the picture. Press ◄ to decrease and ► to increase the contrast.

• Saturation: Adjusts the image from black and white to fully saturated color. Press ◄ to decrease color and ► to increase color. (Not supported in computer mode).

• Tint: Adjusts the color balance of red and green. Press ◄ to increase green and ► to increase red. (Not supported in computer mode).

Within the Color menu, select “Advanced” to access these settings:

• Color Temperature: Adjusts the color temperature. Higher temperatures make the screen look colder (bluer), while lower temperatures make it look warmer (redder).

• Degamma: Affects the representation of dark scenery. With a greater gamma value, dark scenery will look brighter.

• Color R/G/B/C/Y/M: Individually adjusts the level of Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta colors.

You can adjust these settings in the “Image” menu of the OSD:

Projection

• Front: The factory default setting for projecting from the front.

• Ceiling: Inverts the image for ceiling-mounted projection.

• Rear: Reverses the image for projecting from behind a translucent screen.

• Rear-Ceiling: Reverses and inverts the image for ceiling-mounted projection from behind a translucent screen.

Aspect Ratio

• Auto: Keeps the original aspect ratio and maximizes the image to fit native pixels.

• Full: Resizes the image to fit the display area, keeping its original resolution.

• 4:3: Scales the image to be displayed in a 4:3 ratio.

• 16:9: Scales the image to be displayed in a 16:9 ratio.

• L.Box: Keeps the original signal aspect ratio and zooms in by 1.333 times.

These settings are available in the “Image” menu of the OSD:

• Keystone: Adjusts image distortion caused by tilting the projector (up to ±40 degrees).

• Sharpness: Adjusts the sharpness of the image. Use the arrow keys to increase or decrease sharpness.

• H. Position (Horizontal position): Moves the image left or right.

• V. Position (Vertical position): Moves the image up or down.

When using a PC input, you can adjust these settings in the “Image” menu of the OSD:

• Frequency: This changes the projector’s refresh rate to match your computer’s graphics card frequency. If you see a vertical flickering bar in the image, use this function to make necessary adjustments.

• Tracking: This synchronizes the signal timing of the projector with the graphics card. If you experience an unstable or flickering image, use this function to correct it.

Note: Tracking is not supported under HDMI, Video, and S-Video modes.

The “Setting” menu allows you to configure various operational parameters:

• Menu Location: Choose the location of the OSD menu on the display screen.

• Source Lock: When Off, the projector searches for signals if you press the SOURCE button. When On, it locks to the current source channel unless you press SOURCE, and then only searches for the next source.

• Startup Screen: Select your desired startup screen. Choose ‘Acer’ for the default or ‘User’ to use a customized picture from the Screen Capture function.

• Screen Capture: Use this function to customize the startup screen image.

• Closed Caption: Select a closed captioning mode (CC1-CC4) or Off. This is only available for composite or S-Video signals in NTSC format.

• Reset: Press the ► button and choose YES to return all menu parameters to their factory default settings.

The ACER X1220H has a security function to manage projector use:

• Enable Security: In the Security menu, select ‘On’ to enable the security function. A password will be required to operate the projector.

• Timeout(Min.): Once security is activated, you can set a timeout from 10 to 990 minutes. When the time is up, the user will be prompted to enter the password again. The default is Off.

• User Password:

– Use the number keys on the remote to set a password between 4 and 8 characters long, then press MENU to confirm.

– Choose when the password is required: “Request password only after plugging power cord” or “Always request password while projector turns on”.

• Administrator Password:

– Can be used in both the ‘Enter Administrator Password’ and ‘Enter Password’ dialog boxes.

– The default Administrator Password is 1234.

If you forgot your administrator password, do the following:

1. Press and hold the MENU button for more than four seconds when the ‘Enter Password’ or ‘Enter Administrator Password’ dialog box is displayed.

2. A “Forget Password?” screen will appear with an Unlock ID.

3. Write down the Unlock ID and contact an Acer service center. They will provide a new Administrator Password based on the Unlock ID.

The Management menu contains the following functions:

• ECO Mode: Choose ‘On’ to dim the projector lamp, which lowers power consumption, extends lamp life, and reduces noise. Choose ‘Off’ for normal mode.

• High Altitude: Choose ‘On’ to operate the fans at full speed for proper cooling in high-altitude environments.

• Turn Off Mode:

– Instant Off: Enables you to turn off the projector immediately by pressing the power button twice, without a fan cooling process.

– Instant Resume: Enables you to restart the projector immediately, without a two-minute cool-down period.

• Auto Shutdown: The projector will automatically shut down if there is no signal input for the allocated time (in minutes).

• Lamp Hour Elapse: Displays the lamp’s elapsed operating time in hours.

• Lamp Reminding: Activate to display a reminder to change the lamp 30 hours before its expected end-of-life.

• Lamp Hour Reset: Press the ► button and choose ‘Yes’ to reset the lamp hour counter to 0 hours after replacing the lamp.

In the OSD, navigate to the Audio menu to adjust the sound:

• Volume: Press ◄ to decrease the volume and ► to increase the volume.

• Mute: Choose ‘On’ to mute the volume and ‘Off’ to restore the volume.

To configure 3D settings, go to the 3D menu in the OSD:

• 3D: Choose ‘On’ to enable the 3D functions. This is for use with DLP 3D glasses, a quad buffer graphics card (NVIDIA or ATI), and compatible 3D content. Choose ‘Off’ to turn off 3D mode.

• 3D Sync Invert: If you see a blurred or overlapping image while wearing DLP 3D glasses, you may need to turn On ‘3D Sync Invert’ to get the best match for the left/right image sequence. This is only available when 3D is set to ‘On’.

• 3D Warning Message: Choose ‘On’ to display the 3D warning message or ‘Off’ to turn it off.

To enjoy the benefits of DLP 3D technology on your ACER X1220H, you will need the following:

1. A graphics card that supports 3D playback.

2. The latest drivers for your graphics card installed on your computer.

3. A suitable 3D player software.

4. The correct DLP-compatible 3D glasses.

Once you have the necessary drivers and software installed, you need to set up the 3D environment:

1. Set the refresh rate to 120 Hz on your graphics card.

2. Press the menu button on the projector remote control to open the OSD.

3. Navigate to the 3D menu and set 3D to On.

4. Alternatively, press the ‘e’ (Empowering) key on the remote to open Acer e3D Management and select ‘On’.

5. If the 3D content is not displaying properly, try selecting 3D Sync Invert from the OSD or Acer e3D Management.

If no image appears on the screen, try the following steps:

• Ensure the projector is properly connected as described in the “Getting started” section.

• Ensure none of the connector pins are bent or broken.

• Check if the projector lamp has been securely installed. Refer to the “Replacing the lamp” section for instructions.

For an incorrectly displayed image from a PC, follow these steps:

1. Press RESYNC on the remote control.

2. On your PC, open My Computer > Control Panel, and then double-click the Display icon.

3. Select the Settings tab.

4. Verify that your display resolution setting is lower than or equal to UXGA (1600 x 1200).

If the problem persists, you may need to change the monitor display settings on your computer.

Some notebook PCs may deactivate their own screens when a second display device like the ACER X1220H is in use. Each notebook has a different way to be reactivated. Refer to your computer’s manual for detailed information on how to enable dual display or external display mode (often a function key combination like Fn + F5, etc.).

If the image is out of focus, try these solutions:

• Adjust the focus ring on the projector lens until the image is sharp.

• Make sure the projection screen is within the required distance from the projector as specified in the distance tables.

When you play a DVD encoded in anamorphic or 16:9 aspect ratio, you may need to adjust settings:

• If you play a 4:3 format DVD title, please change the format to 4:3 in the projector OSD.

• If the image is still stretched, you will also need to adjust the aspect ratio on your DVD player itself. Set up the display format to 16:9 (wide) aspect ratio on your DVD player.

• Adjust the zoom ring on the front of the projector.

• Move the projector closer to or further from the screen.

• Press MENU on the remote control, go to Image > Aspect Ratio and try different settings, or press the Aspect Ratio button on the remote control to adjust directly.

• If possible, reposition the projector so that it is centered on the screen and perpendicular to it.

• Press the Keystone △ / ▽ button on the remote control or control panel until the sides are vertical.

If possible, turn off the projector, then unplug the power cord and wait at least 30 seconds before reconnecting power.

When the lamp reaches the end of its useful life, it will burn out and may make a loud popping sound. If this happens, the projector will not turn on until the lamp module has been replaced. To replace the lamp, please refer to the “Replacing the lamp” instructions.

Clean the dust filter after every 1000 hours of use to prevent overheating. Follow these steps:

1. Turn the projector off and unplug the power cord.

2. Pull the dust filter out.

3. To clean the dust filter, use a small vacuum cleaner designed for computers and other office equipment. It can also be cleaned with water.

4. If the dirt is difficult to remove or the filter is broken, contact your local dealer or service center to obtain a new filter.

5. To put the dust filter back, reverse the previous steps.

When you see the message “Lamp is approaching the end of its useful life…”, change the lamp as soon as possible. Warning: The lamp compartment is hot! Allow it to cool down for at least 45 minutes before changing the lamp.

1. Turn off the projector by pressing the Power button.

2. Allow the projector at least 45 minutes to cool down.

3. Disconnect the power cord.

4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws on the two sides of the lamp cover.

5. Push up and remove the cover.

6. Remove the two screws that secure the lamp module and pull up the lamp bar.

7. Pull out the lamp module.

To install the new lamp module, reverse the previous steps. After replacement, remember to go to the Management menu and use the “Lamp Hour Reset” function.

If you wish to install the projector using a ceiling mount, please refer to these steps. Note: Screws for mounting the base to the ceiling are not included.

1. Drill four holes into a solid, structurally sound part of the ceiling and secure the mount base.

2. Secure the ceiling rod to the mount base using the appropriate type of four-cylinder screws.

3. Use the appropriate number of screws (M4 x 8 mm) and washers to attach the projector to the ceiling mount bracket. It is recommended to keep a reasonable space between the bracket and the projector for heat distribution.

4. Attach the ceiling bracket (with the projector) to the ceiling rod.

5. Adjust the angle and positioning as necessary and tighten the screws to secure it.

Remember to set the Projection mode to “Ceiling” in the OSD Image menu.
