Note: Only one type of radio antenna is supplied depending on the region of purchase.

To insert the batteries into the remote control for your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, open the battery compartment on the back of the remote and insert the two supplied AAA batteries, making sure to align them the right way round according to the polarity markings.

The remote control for the YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A should be pointed at the remote control sensor on the front of the unit. It operates within a range of 6 meters (20 ft) and within a 30-degree angle to the left and right of the sensor.

The front panel of the YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A has the following parts and functions:

• z (power): Turns the Main zone on or off (standby).

• Standby indicator: Lights up when the unit is in standby mode and either HDMI Control, Standby Through, Network Standby, or Bluetooth Standby is enabled.

• VOLUME: Adjusts the volume.

• Remote control sensor: Receives infrared signals from the remote control.

• Front display: Displays information and menus.

• Indicator (PURE DIRECT/ZONE): PURE DIRECT lights up when that mode is active. ZONE lights up when a zone is turned on.

• SELECT/ENTER: Selects the input source and operates the front display menu.

• USB jack: For connecting a USB flash device.

• YPAO jack: For connecting the supplied YPAO microphone for speaker calibration.

• PHONES jack: For connecting headphones.

• Touch panel (SCENE/RETURN/MENU): Provides touch operations. SCENE switches between settings presets. RETURN operates the “Front Display” menu. MENU (CONNECT) operates the “Front Display” menu and enters MusicCast network setup when held down.

The front display of the YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A shows the following information:

• Operation mode icon: Indicates if the display is in input select mode or info select mode.

• Input default name: Displays the original name of an input source if you have renamed it.

• Main information: Shows the current input name or other input-related information.

• Play status icon: Shows Shuffle, Repeat, and Playback/Pause/Stop status.

• Status icon: Indicates Wireless LAN connection, Bluetooth connection, Sleep timer status, and available Firmware updates.

• Volume: Indicates the current volume level.

• SELECT/ENTER indicator: Shows available operations for the right display area.

• Additional information: Displays details like Reception or DSP Program.

To change the information displayed on the front panel of your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, push the SELECT/ENTER knob to switch to the info select mode. Then, rotate the SELECT/ENTER knob to cycle through the available information items for the current input source. The available items vary depending on the selected source.

The basic flow for setting up your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A with surround speakers connected by speaker cables is as follows:

1. Place speakers.

2. Connect speakers.

3. Connect a TV.

4. Connect playback devices.

5. Connect the radio antennas.

6. Prepare for connecting to a network.

7. Set MusicCast network.

8. Assign speaker configuration.

9. Configure the speaker settings.

To connect speakers to your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, they must meet the following requirements:

Speaker Requirements:

• Front speakers: impedance of at least 4-ohm.

• Other speakers: impedance of at least 6-ohm.

• Subwoofer: must have a built-in amplifier.

Under default settings, the unit is configured for 8-ohm speakers. When connecting 6-ohm speakers, or 4-ohm front speakers, set the unit’s speaker impedance to “6 Ω MIN”.

Cable Requirements:

• Use commercially-available speaker cables for connecting the speakers.

• Use a commercially-available audio pin cable (RCA cable) for connecting a subwoofer.

Follow these steps to connect a speaker to your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A. Ensure the unit’s power cable is unplugged before you begin.

1. Remove approximately 10 mm (3/8”) of insulation from the ends of the speaker cable, and twist the bare wires of the cable firmly together.

2. Loosen the speaker terminal on the rear of the receiver.

3. Insert the bare wires of the cable into the gap on the side of the terminal. Match the positive (+) wire to the red terminal and the negative (–) wire to the black terminal.

4. Tighten the terminal to secure the wire.

This completes the connection. Ensure that the bare wires of the speaker cable do not touch each other or any metal parts of the unit to avoid short circuits.

To automatically optimize your speaker settings using the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) function, follow these steps:

1. Select the unit’s speaker impedance settings in the Setup menu as necessary to match your speakers.

2. Configure any corresponding speaker settings (such as Bi-Amp or Zone connections).

3. If you have a subwoofer, set its volume to half. If it has a crossover frequency adjustment, set it to maximum.

4. Place the supplied YPAO microphone at your primary listening position, at ear height. Using a tripod is recommended.

5. Connect the YPAO microphone to the YPAO jack on the front panel of the unit. The “Auto Setup” screen will appear on your TV.

6. According to the guidance displayed on the screen, start the measurement. Test tones will be output at high volume.

7. When the measurement is finished, a results screen will appear. Press ENTER.

8. Select “Save” to apply the optimized speaker settings.

9. Disconnect the YPAO microphone from the unit.

If you encounter an error or warning message during the YPAO measurement on your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, refer to the tables below for the cause and remedy.

To play music from a Bluetooth device like a smartphone on your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, follow these steps:

1. Select “Bluetooth” as the input source on the receiver.

2. On your Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth and select the YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A from the list of available devices. The name will be the network name of the unit.

3. If a passkey is required, enter the number “0000”.

4. On your Bluetooth device, start playback of your music. The playback screen will be displayed on your TV.

You can transmit audio from your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A to Bluetooth speakers or headphones by following these steps:

1. On the receiver, select an input source other than “Bluetooth”.

2. Press SETUP on the remote control.

3. Navigate to the “Bluetooth” menu and set “Transmitter” to “On”.

4. Select “Device Search” in the “Bluetooth” menu. The receiver will search for available Bluetooth devices.

5. Select your Bluetooth speakers or headphones from the list to connect. When the connection is complete, audio played back on the unit will be reproduced from your Bluetooth device.

Note: You must use the volume control on your Bluetooth speakers/headphones to adjust their volume.

The SCENE function on your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A allows you to recall a complete set of receiver settings with a single button press.

Selecting a Registered Scene:

Press one of the SCENE number keys (1-8) on the remote control. The input source and settings registered to that scene will be instantly selected. This will also turn on the unit if it is in standby mode.

Registering a Scene:

1. First, set up the unit with all the settings you want to assign to a SCENE key (e.g., select the input source, sound program, volume level, etc.).

2. Hold down the desired SCENE number key on the remote control for 3 seconds, until “Setting Complete” appears on the front display or TV screen.

The new settings are now registered to that SCENE key.

The multi-zone function allows you to play an input source in another room (Zone2) while a different source is playing in the main room (Main Zone).

Setup:

You can power Zone2 speakers using the unit’s internal amplifier or an external amplifier.

• Using the internal amplifier: Connect the Zone2 speakers to the EXTRA SP1 or EXTRA SP2 terminals. Then, in the “Setup” menu, set “Power Amp Assign” to “7.1 +1Zone” or “5.1.2 +1Zone”.

• Using an external amplifier: Connect the external amplifier’s input to the ZONE2 OUT jacks on the receiver.

Operation:

1. On the remote control, set the zone switch to the zone you want to operate (e.g., “ZONE 2”).

2. Press the z (power) key to turn on the zone. The “ZONE” indicator will light up on the front panel.

3. Use the input selection keys to select an input source for that zone.

4. Start playback on the external device.

5. Press VOLUME to adjust the volume for that zone.

You can update the firmware on your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A via the network or using a USB flash drive.

Updating via the Network:

When the unit is connected to the Internet and a firmware update is ready, a firmware update indicator will light up on the front display, and a notification message will appear on your TV when you press SETUP.

1. From the on-screen notification, read the description and press the down cursor key.

2. Press ENTER to begin the update. The on-screen display will turn off.

3. When “UPDATE SUCCESS PLEASE POWER OFF!” appears on the front display, press the z (power) button on the front panel to complete the update.

Updating via USB Flash Drive:

If the unit is not connected to the Internet, or the connection is slow, you can update using a USB flash drive. You will need to download the firmware file first.

1. Go to the “Setup” menu > “Function” > “Firmware Update”.

2. Select “USB Update” and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the power on your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A does not turn on, check the following:

• Ensure the power cables for the unit, TV, and playback devices are securely connected to AC wall outlets.

• Check if the protection circuitry has been activated. If the standby indicator on the unit blinks when you try to turn on the power, it means the protection circuitry has been activated three times consecutively. This is a safety precaution. In this case, contact your nearest Yamaha dealer or service center for repair.

If your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A turns off or enters standby mode unexpectedly, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

• Speaker cable short circuit: If the power turns off immediately after turning on, a speaker cable may be shorted. Turn off the unit, check all speaker cable connections to ensure the bare wires are twisted firmly and not touching each other or the receiver’s chassis, and then turn the unit on again.

• Sleep timer: The sleep timer may have been activated. Turn the unit on and start playback again.

• Auto Power Standby: This function turns the unit off after a specified period of inactivity. To disable it, set “Auto Power Standby” in the “Setup” menu to “Off”.

• Protection circuitry (high volume): The protection circuitry may have been activated due to excessively high volume. Turn down the volume. If “ECO Mode” is set to “On”, try setting it to “Off”.

• Incorrect speaker impedance setting: Ensure the speaker impedance setting in the “Setup” menu matches your speakers.

If there is no sound from your YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A, try the following troubleshooting steps:

• Check the input source: Make sure the correct input source is selected using the input selection keys.

• Check the cables: Ensure all audio cables connecting the playback device to the unit are securely connected. If a cable is broken, replace it.

• Speaker configuration: The speaker may be disabled in the “Configuration” settings in the “Setup” menu. Perform YPAO or manually check the settings.

• Speaker volume: The volume level for that specific speaker may be set too low. Use the “Level” setting in the “Setup” menu to adjust it.

• Speaker cable: The speaker cable may be disconnected or broken. Check the connections at both the receiver and the speaker.

• Speaker malfunction: The speaker itself may be malfunctioning. Try connecting a different, known-working speaker to the same terminal to test.

If you are not getting a video signal on your TV, follow these troubleshooting steps:

• Check input sources: Ensure the correct input source is selected on both the YAMAHA AVENTAGE RX-A2A and the TV.

• Check HDMI cables: Make sure all HDMI cables are securely connected. Try replacing a cable if you suspect it is broken.

• Unsupported video signal: The video signal from your playback device may not be supported by the TV. Check the video output settings of your playback device.

Connection cannot be established:
