The VONHAUS 3500169 is designed for light sanding applications such as finish sanding, sanding in corners, and sanding small surfaces. It is intended for domestic use only and is not designed for heavy-duty or commercial use. This product is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or given instruction concerning the safe use of the product by a person responsible for their safety.

Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Do not modify the VONHAUS 3500169 in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Use of non-genuine accessories may lead to malfunction and/or personal injury. Always check that the mains voltage matches the voltage on the rating plate. The tool is Double Insulated for additional protection against a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.

Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.

Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles.

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the plug from the power source from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, because the sanding surface may contact its own cord. Cutting a ‘live’ wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool ‘live’ and could give the operator an electric shock.

Do not sand lead-based paint. Lead from paint is poisonous.

Do not sand wet materials (e.g. wallpaper) or on wet surfaces. Water entering the power tool increases the risk of electric shock.

Do not touch the moving sanding sheet.

Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more securely than by hand.

Dust generated from sanding certain materials can be hazardous to your health. The dust from certain woods and wood composites is classified as a human carcinogen. Sanding lead-based paint is extremely hazardous and should only be undertaken by a professional. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a dust mask designed to protect against toxic dust particles. Always use the Dust Box and ensure the work area is well-ventilated.

Step 1. To fit the Dust Box, align the tabs on the Dust Box with the slots on the rear of the main unit and push into place.

Step 2. To remove the Dust Box, simply pull away from the unit.

Step 3. To empty the Dust Box, unclip the lid and empty the contents into a suitable waste receptacle. Clip the lid back on before re-attaching to the sander.

It is recommended to empty the Dust Box every 5-10 minutes of use to ensure efficient dust extraction.

Step 1. Disconnect the sander from the power supply.

Step 2. Align the Sanding Sheet with the Sanding Pad, making sure the holes on the sheet align with the holes on the pad.

Step 3. Firmly press the sheet into place. The hook and loop system will hold it securely.

To remove the Sanding Sheet, simply peel it away from the Sanding Pad.

Step 1. Ensure a Sanding Sheet is fitted to the Sanding Pad and the Dust Box is attached and empty.

Step 2. Secure the material to be sanded to a workbench or with clamps to prevent it from moving.

Step 3. Plug the sander into a suitable mains socket.

Step 4. To switch the sander on, push the On/Off switch forward to the ‘I’ position.

Step 5. To switch the sander off, push the On/Off switch back to the ‘O’ position.

Always hold the sander parallel to the workpiece.

For rough surfaces, start with a coarse grit Sanding Sheet (80) and progress to a medium grit (100) and then a fine grit (120).

Do not apply excessive pressure to the tool as this will not result in a faster or better finish. Excessive pressure will only cause the Sanding Sheet and motor to wear out quicker.

After prolonged use, the Sanding Sheet will become worn and will need to be replaced for best results.

Continuously move the sander over the surface of the material. Stopping in one place will result in an uneven finish.

Empty the Dust Box regularly for efficient dust extraction.

Do not sand surfaces that have been treated with a wax polish. Before sanding, clean the surface thoroughly with a solvent to remove the wax.

Always disconnect the sander from the power supply before performing any cleaning or maintenance. After each use, clean the tool. Keep the ventilation slots of the motor clean to prevent the motor from overheating. Use a soft brush or a dry cloth to clean the tool housing. Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified service person in order to avoid a hazard.

Regularly check for any signs of damage, especially to the Sanding Pad, Power Cord, and Plug. Check that all screws are secure. Any damaged parts must be replaced by a qualified technician.

If your sander fails to operate, first check the power supply at the mains socket. Ensure the mains plug is securely inserted and check the fuse in the plug. If the sander still does not work, it should be checked by a qualified person.

Poor sanding performance is likely due to a worn sanding sheet. Replace the sanding sheet with a new one to restore performance.

Excessive vibration is often caused by an incorrectly fitted sanding sheet. Remove the sanding sheet and re-fit it, ensuring it is correctly aligned and securely attached to the sanding pad.

Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your local authority for recycling advice. The VONHAUS 3500169 should not be disposed of with normal household waste.
