When using your ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50, please adhere to the following safety instructions:

12) Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

13) Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

14) Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

Before using your ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50, refer to the following:

1. Ensure the amp’s volume controls are set to zero before switching on power to the amplifier.

2. The voltage selector switch and mains fuse are set at the factory for the country or region in which the amplifier is intended to be sold. To prevent serious damage, ensure that the rated AC mains voltage indicated on the product’s rear panel agrees with the mains voltage from your AC mains outlet before connecting the mains cord/plug.

3. If the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 is to be used outside of the factory set region, ensure the voltage selector switch (found on the rear panel) is set to the correct voltage for the new country/region and that the appropriate mains fuse is fitted.

4. Connect the supplied IEC cable to the AC Mains Inlet. Ensure the Power switch is set to OFF before connecting the IEC cable.

To connect your instrument to the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50, use a quality shielded instrument cable to connect your instrument to the INPUT jack socket. The PAD switch selects the correct input level for basses with active or passive pickups. When the PAD switch is engaged, the input level is reduced by -6dB, which is suitable for active pickups.

To use the integrated chromatic tuner on your ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50:

1. Depress the ON/OFF button (labeled TUN on the control panel) to engage the tuner. For silent tuning, set the Volume control to zero.

2. Play a single string. The appropriate red LED will illuminate on the display to indicate the note being played.

3. If the green # LED also illuminates, this indicates a chromatic note (a sharp), e.g., F Sharp (F#).

4. The arrow LEDs indicate if the note is sharp or flat:

• The > arrow LED indicates the note is tuned too low in pitch.

• The < arrow LED indicates the note is tuned too high in pitch.

5. Adjust the string’s pitch in the direction shown by the arrows until the green OK LED is lit, indicating the string is in tune.

The ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 has a versatile EQ section:

BASS: Adjusts the low-end frequencies with up to 15dB of boost (max. setting) or cut (min. setting).

TREBLE: Adjusts the upper frequencies with up to 20dB of boost (max. setting) or cut (min. setting).

MIDDLE & FREQ: These two controls work together. The FREQ dial selects the centre frequency of the MIDDLE control, sweeping from 300Hz (min.) to 2.7kHz (max.). The MIDDLE control then boosts or cuts this selected frequency by up to 15dB. Note that when the MIDDLE control is in the centre (12 o’clock) position, moving the FREQ control will have no audible effect.

The GAIN and BLEND controls on the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 work together to add harmonics and distortion to your sound:

GAIN: This controls the level of gain applied to the upper frequencies. Increasing the GAIN adds extra harmonics and, at higher settings, heavy distortion.

BLEND: This controls the amount of the gain/upper harmonics that is blended with the clean signal. The character of the BLEND control is defined by where the GAIN control is set. Higher BLEND settings will also add extra volume. With the GAIN set to minimum, the BLEND control will have the least effect on the overall sound. The BLEND control is located before the EQ controls in the signal path.

The ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 features an FX Loop to connect external effects processors or pedals between the amplifier’s preamp and output stages. To connect your effects:

1. Connect a cable from the FX Loop SEND socket on the rear panel to the input of your external effects unit/pedal.

2. Connect a cable from the output of your external effects unit/pedal to the FX Loop RETURN socket on the rear panel.

Yes, you can use headphones with the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50. The PHONES output is for use with most stereo headphones with a 6.35mm connection. When headphones are plugged in, the internal speaker is disconnected for silent practice. The PHONES output also features Cabsim for a more authentic sound and can be used to send a signal to a recording console or mixer. To avoid possible hearing damage, do not use headphones at high volume levels for extended periods.

The ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 has an AUX IN jack for connecting external audio devices. Use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect MP3 players, laptops, or other devices to the AUX IN socket. The audio signal is internally summed to mono.

You can connect a latching footswitch (e.g., Orange FS-1) to the FOOTSWITCH jack on the rear panel of the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50. This allows you to remotely engage or defeat the BLEND/GAIN controls.

The mains fuse on the ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 is located in a pull-out tray underneath the AC Mains Input on the rear panel. If the mains fuse blows, you must replace it ONLY with the exact same type and rating for your region. The correct ratings are:

100V/120V: T2A

230V: T1A

If the mains fuse continues to blow, contact your Orange dealer.

If your ORANGE CRUSH BASS 50 causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, you are encouraged to try and correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.

• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.

• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
