After unpacking your OLYMPUS VN-721PC, follow these steps to get it ready for use:

When you turn the power on for the first time, [Language] will appear in the display. Use the +/- button to select your desired language and press the OK button to confirm.

To turn the power off, slide the POWER/HOLD switch in the direction of the “POWER” arrow for at least half a second. Existing data, menu settings, and the clock setting will be saved.

Power Save Mode:

If the voice recorder is in stop mode for at least 5 minutes after being powered on, the display will turn off and the recorder will automatically enter Power Save mode to conserve battery. Pressing any button will release the Power Save mode.

The OLYMPUS VN-721PC has five folders (A, B, C, D, E), and each can store up to 200 files.

1. While the recorder is in stop mode, press the FOLDER/INDEX button. The folder indicator (e.g., ‘A’) will change each time you press the button, cycling through the folders.

If an index mark is reached during fast-forward or rewind, the operation will stop at the mark.

• To skip to the beginning of the next file: Press the ►►I button once (either in stop mode or during playback).

• To skip to the beginning of the previous file: When playback is at the beginning of a file, press the I◄◄ button. Alternatively, during playback, press the I◄◄ button twice consecutively.

4. The segment between points A and B will now play on a loop.

To cancel A-B repeat playback:

Press the STOP (■) button while the recorder is in stop mode. You can also press the REC (●) button during the A-B repeat playback to cancel it without stopping the playback.

Index marks help you quickly navigate to important points within a recording.

To add an index mark:

During recording or playback, when you reach the desired position, press the FOLDER/INDEX button. An index mark will be written at that point. You can add up to 99 index marks per file.

To erase an index mark:

1. Start playback of the file containing the index mark.

2. Use the ►►I or I◄◄ button to skip to the index mark you want to erase. The index number will be shown in the display for about 2 seconds.

3. While the index number is displayed, press the ERASE button.

You cannot add or erase index marks in files that are locked.

You can erase a single file or all files within a folder. Erased files cannot be restored.

1. In stop mode, select the file you want to erase.

2. Press the ERASE button.

3. Press the +/- button to select either [One file] (to erase only the selected file) or [All in folder] (to erase all files in the current folder).

4. Press the OK button.

5. Press the + button to select [Start].

6. Press the OK button to begin erasing. “[Erasing!]” will appear, followed by “[Erased]” when the process is complete.

Before erasing, ensure the battery is not low. Do not remove the battery during the erasing process.

1. In the [Rec Menu], set [VCVA] to [On].

1. On the taskbar at the bottom-right of the screen, click the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon.

2. Select “[Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device]”.

3. When the window indicates it is safe to remove the hardware, you can disconnect the device.

4. Check that the recorder’s LED indicator light is off before physically disconnecting the voice recorder from the PC.

For Macintosh:

1. Drag-and-drop the removable disk icon for the voice recorder from the desktop to the trash can icon.

2. Check that the recorder’s LED indicator light is off before physically disconnecting the voice recorder from the PC.

For Windows:

1. Connect the voice recorder to the PC.

2. Open Windows Explorer (or “My Computer”). The recorder will be recognized and displayed with its model name.

3. Click on the folder labeled with the voice recorder’s model name to view its contents (FOLDER_A, FOLDER_B, etc.).

4. Copy the desired data from the recorder’s folders to a location on your PC.

5. Safely disconnect the voice recorder from the PC.

For Macintosh:

1. Connect the voice recorder to the PC. It will appear as a removable disk icon on the desktop.

2. Double-click the removable disk icon to open it.

3. Copy the desired data from the recorder’s folders to a location on your Mac.

4. Safely disconnect the voice recorder from the PC.

There are a few possible causes:

• The battery is not inserted properly: Check that the positive and negative terminals of the battery are placed correctly.

• The remaining battery power is low: Replace the battery with a fresh one.

• The power is OFF: Turn the power ON.
