Proper placement of the speakers is an important step in obtaining the most realistic soundstage possible. These recommendations are for the optimum placement of the loudspeakers. Use these placement recommendations as a guide. Slight variations will not diminish your listening pleasure.

For the HLS615, HLS620, and HLS820 models, the two front speakers should be positioned so they form a 40 to 60-degree angle with the primary listening position.

When used as front speakers, the HLS610 and HLS810 should be placed to the left and right of the listening area, typically on either side of a television or screen. The listener should be positioned centrally between them.

For surround sound, speakers should be placed to the sides or slightly behind the primary listening position. They should be elevated, typically 5 to 6 feet from the floor.

The HLS Center speaker is designed to complement any of the HLS Series loudspeakers. It should be placed directly above or below the television screen. The front of the speaker should be positioned 0 to 2 feet from the front of the television.

Yes, all of the HLS Series loudspeakers are video-shielded and can safely be placed near a television.

Speakers and electronics terminals have corresponding positive (+) and negative (-) terminals. It is important to connect both speakers identically:

1. Connect the positive (+) terminal on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on the amplifier.

2. Connect the negative (-) terminal on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on the amplifier.

Wiring the speakers “out of phase” (connecting + to -) will result in thin sound, weak bass, and a poor stereo image.

If there is no sound from any of the speakers, check the following:

• Make sure the receiver/amplifier is on and a source is playing.

• Review the proper operation of your receiver/amplifier.

If there is no sound coming from one speaker, check the following:

• Check the “Balance” control on your receiver/amplifier.

• Check all wires and connections between the receiver/amplifier and speakers.

• Make sure all wires are connected. Ensure none of the speaker wires are frayed, cut, or punctured.

If the system plays at low volumes but shuts off as volume is increased, check the following:

• Check all wires and connections between the receiver/amplifier and speakers.

• Make sure all wires are connected and that none of the speaker wires are frayed, cut, or punctured.

• If more than one pair of main speakers is being used, check the minimum impedance requirements of your receiver/amplifier.

If there is low bass output, check the following:

• Make sure the polarities (+ and -) of the left and right “Speaker Inputs” are connected properly.

If there is no sound from the center speaker, check the following:

• Make sure that your receiver’s Center Channel Mode is in the “normal” or “wide” position. If it is in the “phantom” position, the center speaker will not play.

• Check all connections between the processor/amplifier and the center speaker.

The maximum recommended amplifier power rating will ensure proper system headroom to allow for occasional peaks. Sustained operation at these maximum power levels is not recommended.
