What should I do if connecting a dishwasher?
If you are connecting a dishwasher, the drain plug MUST be removed. Turn the disposer onto its side and knock out the drain plug with a screwdriver. Remove the plug from inside of the disposer with pliers.
The drain plug cannot be replaced once it is knocked out.
If the dishwasher connection is made without removing the plug, the dishwasher may overflow.
How do I remove an existing disposer?
1. Turn off electric power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
2. Disconnect the drain trap from the waste discharge tube.
3. Disconnect the dishwasher if it is connected to the disposer.
4. Support the disposer, insert the end of the wrenchette (H) into the right side of the mounting lug, and turn. The disposer will fall free.
5. Flip the disposer over and remove the electrical cover plate. Save the cable connector if applicable.
6. Disconnect the disposer wires from the electrical supply.
7. Using a flathead screwdriver, loosen the 3 screws on the mounting assembly.
8. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry off the snap ring (G).
9. Remove the flange from the sink. Remove old plumber’s putty from the sink with a putty knife.
Is the new disposer mounting the same as the old one?
If YES, you may choose to skip to the electrical connection and disposer attachment steps (starting from step 15).
If NO, continue with the installation steps to install the new mounting assembly.
How do I install the flange in the sink hole?
1. Evenly apply a 1/2″ thick rope of plumber’s putty around the sink flange (B).
2. Press the sink flange (B) firmly into the sink drain. Remove excess putty.
3. Place a weight, such as the disposer, on the sink flange to hold it in place. Use a towel to avoid scratching the sink.
4. Insert the fiber gasket (C), backup flange (D), and mounting ring (E). Hold them in place while inserting the snap ring (G). Pull the snap ring (G) open and press firmly until it snaps into place.
5. Tighten the 3 mounting screws (F) evenly and firmly against the backup flange.
Property Damage: There is a risk of long/short term water leakage if not properly assembled.
How do I connect the disposer to the electrical supply?
1. Turn the disposer over and remove the electrical cover plate. Pull out the wires.
2. Insert a cable connector (not included) and run the electrical cable through the access hole on the bottom of the disposer. Tighten the cable connector.
3. Connect the white wire from the disposer to the neutral (white) wire from the power source. Connect the black wire from the disposer to the hot (black, red) wire from the power source using wire nuts (not included).
4. Connect the ground wire to the green grounding screw. The unit must be grounded for safe and proper installation.
5. Push the wires into the disposer and replace the electrical cover plate.
Important: This disposer requires a switch with a marked “Off” position (wired to disconnect all ungrounded supply conductors) installed within sight of the disposer sink opening (1 hp minimum rating).
WARNING: DO NOT cut or disconnect any wires. Improper grounding can result in an electric shock hazard.
Property Damage: Do not remove or displace the motor compartment insulation shield.
How do I connect the disposer to the mounting assembly using Lift & Latch® technology?
The Lift & Latch Technology features a lower mounting ring that is fixed with a tab; the lower mounting ring will not turn freely on the disposal. This is intentional for ease of installation and lifting the disposal with two hands. Review how the lower mounting ring tabs interact with the ramps on the bottom of the flange prior to install.
1. Lift the disposal to align with the flange. Ensure all three (3) mounting tabs on the lower mounting ring are aligned with the lowest part of the three (3) ramps on the flange. Slightly push/compress the mounting gasket against the flange and turn the disposal to the right to slide up the ramps. Verify all three tabs are engaged on the flange ramps.
2. Once the lower mounting ring is secure on the flange ramps, the disposal will rotate freely. Rotate the disposal to the right and align with plumbing. Caution: Do not turn the disposal to the left as it could fall off the flange ramps.
3. Lock the flange in place by using the wrenchette (H) for leverage. Insert the wrenchette in one of the hooks on the lower mounting ring and turn right until all three tabs are over the ridges on the high side of the ramps. Pliers (not included) can also be used to help secure the disposal on the ramps by clasping one end on a hook and the other end on one of the three lobes of the flange.
WARNING: Do not position your head or body under the disposer; the unit could fall during removal or installation.
CAUTION: To avoid leaks and/or potential falling hazard, make sure all 3 mounting tabs are latched over ridges.
Property Damage: There is a risk of long/short term water leakage if all three mounting tabs are not properly engaged on all slide-up ramps and locked in place past the ridges.
How do I complete the installation of the disposer?
1. Insert the stopper (A) into the sink opening to fill with water.
2. Remove the stopper (A) and turn on cold water.
3. Turn on the wall switch. Run the disposer and cold water for 15 seconds after grinding stops. Turn off the disposer.
What are the important safety instructions for using the disposer?
1. Read all instructions before using the disposer.
2. For personal safety, always turn off power at the switch or circuit breaker before attempting to clear a jam or remove objects from inside the disposer. Refer to the “How do I clear a jam in the disposer?” section for more details.
3. The disposer must be properly grounded. Refer to the “How do I connect the disposer to the electrical supply?” section for more details.
4. Do not put the following into the disposer: bottle caps, metal, glass, bone, plastic, or other non-food waste.
5. Do not dispose of anything other than food waste down the disposer. For example, Do not dispose of: large whole bones, corn husks, onion skins, whole artichokes, large fruit pits, highly fibrous material, fats, oils, and grease, caustic drain cleaners or other chemical substances.
6. Do not attempt to lubricate your disposer. The motor is permanently lubricated.
7. If you do not use the disposer for a period of time, run cold water and the disposer for approximately 15 seconds before using again.
8. DO NOT PUT HAND OR FINGERS INTO A WORKING DISPOSER.
9. DO NOT INSERT OBJECTS (OTHER THAN THE STOPPER) INTO THE DISPOSER.
10. DO NOT USE CAUSTIC DRAIN CLEANERS.
Property Damage: Do not use caustic drain cleaners in the disposer as they cause serious damage to plastic and metal disposer parts.
How do I operate the disposer?
The disposer switch should be located in a convenient place above the sink.
Never turn on the disposer without first turning on cold water.
After starting the disposer, turn off the disposer after grinding is complete and only running water remains.
| GRINDING TIME | 1 to 3 minutes |
| WATER FLOW | Full cold water flow through disposer |
| POWER CONSUMPTION (approx) | 1/2 of your kitchen’s power on a typical circuit |
| TYPICAL GRINDING SOUND | Grinding sound stops, only the sound of running water |
How do I clean and maintain the disposer?
DO NOT attempt to lubricate your disposer. The motor is permanently lubricated. No lubrication is needed.
To clean the disposer:
1. Turn off the disposer and remove the sink baffle.
2. Using a damp brush, scrub the underside of the sink baffle and grind chamber upper housing.
3. Replace the baffle.
