Please follow these safety guidelines when operating the DIGITECH QM-1321:

• Improper use of this meter can cause damage, shock, injury or death.

• Always remove the test leads before replacing the battery or fuses.

• Before using the meter, please inspect the condition of the test leads and the meter itself for any damage. If damage is present, please discontinue use.

• Do not measure voltage if the voltage on the terminals exceeds 1000V above earth ground.

• Use great care if voltages are greater 30VAC RMS. Anything above this is considered a shock hazard.

• Always discharge capacitors and disconnect power before performing diode, resistance or continuity tests.

• Do not exceed the maximum limits of the input values shown in the specification tables of this manual.

• Remove the batteries from the meter if it will be unused for an extended period of time.

The DIGITECH QM-1321 Digital Multimeter has the following functions and ranges:

The DIGITECH QM-1321 features the following components and controls:

• Non-Contact Voltage Detection Position: The top area of the meter used for NCV detection.

• LED Indicator: Flashes when voltage is detected. It will flash faster if the detected voltage is increasing.

• LCD Display: Shows readings and measurements taken by the multimeter.

• Function Buttons:

– FUNC: Use this button to switch between measuring DC/AC, resistance, continuity, diodes, Celsius and Fahrenheit.

– REL: Measures relative value with the REL sign displayed on screen.

– MIN/MAX: Press once to display the minimum and maximum values. Press again to remove from display.

– RANGE: Measure voltage and resistance automatically (default) or manually. Press to switch to manual and again to return to automatic mode.

– Hz / %: Measure frequency and duty cycle.

– HOLD: Press to lock readings on the screen. Press again to unlock.

• Backlight Button: Press to turn the backlight on. It remains on for approximately 10 seconds.

• Rotary Switch: Select a measurement range by turning the switch to the preferred option.

• Input Jacks:

– V/Ω: Positive input terminal for voltage, resistance, diode, temperature, frequency, and capacitance.

– COM: Negative input terminal for all measurements.

– μA/mA: Input terminal for current less than 600mA.

– A: Input terminal for 10A current.

The tilt stand and battery compartment are located at the rear of the multimeter.

To measure AC or DC voltage, follow these steps:

1. Set the rotary switch to the voltage position (V~ or V= or mV=).

2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack.

3. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive V/Ω jack.

4. Touch the black test probe tip to the negative side of the circuit.

5. Touch the red test probe tip to the positive side of the circuit.

6. Read the voltage on the screen. The polarity of the red test lead will display when making a DC Voltage measurement.

Note: Do not attempt to measure voltage exceeding 1000VDC or 750VAC RMS. If an erroneous reading is suspected in the low voltage range, short the V and COM jacks to ensure zero is displayed.

To measure current, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect power from the circuit to be tested and discharge all capacitors.

2. Set the rotary switch to the appropriate current measuring range (μA, mA, or A).

3. For current measurements:

• For less than 600mA, insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the μA/mA jack.

• For current up to 10A, insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the 10A jack.

4. Break the circuit under test. Connect the black test lead to the more negative side of the break and the red test lead to the more positive side of the break.

5. Connect power to the circuit and read the value on the screen. If OL displays, the input is over range, and you will need to select a higher range.

6. Disconnect power from the circuit, discharge all capacitors, remove the test leads, and recover the circuit.

Warning: Never attempt measurement if the potential for an open circuit to earth is greater than 250V. Do not place test leads in parallel with a circuit when they are plugged into the current terminals.

Warning: To avoid electric shock, disconnect power to the unit under test and discharge all capacitors before testing.

1. Set the rotary switch to the position with the diode and continuity symbols.

2. Press the FUNC button until the relevant icon (diode or continuity) appears on the screen.

3. Insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the V/Ω jack.

4. For Diode Test: Place the red test lead on the anode of the diode and the black test lead on the cathode. The meter will show the approximate forward voltage. Reverse voltage will indicate OL.

5. For Continuity Check: Touch the test probe tips to the circuit or wire you wish to check. If the resistance is less than 30Ω, the audible signal will sound.

Warning: Disconnect power and discharge all capacitors before taking resistance measurements.

1. Set the rotary switch to the resistance (Ω) position.

2. Insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the V/Ω jack.

3. Touch the test probe tips across the component or part under test. It is best to disconnect one end of the component from the circuit to avoid interference.

4. Read the resistance displayed on the screen. For high resistance, the meter may take a few seconds to stabilize. In an open circuit, the meter will display OL.

Note: For best accuracy when measuring low resistance, short the test leads before the measurement and subtract this resistance value from the total.

Warning: Disconnect power and fully discharge all capacitors before measuring capacitance.

1. Set the rotary switch to the capacitance position and press the “FUNC” button until the capacitance icon appears on the screen.

2. Insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the V/Ω jack.

3. Touch the test leads to the capacitor to be tested and read the capacitance value in the display.

Note: The test may take more time for large capacitors. To improve accuracy for measurements less than 10nF, subtract the residual capacitance of the meter and test leads.

Warning: Do not apply more than 250VDC or 250VAC RMS when taking frequency measurements.

1. Set the rotary switch to the Hz/% position.

2. Insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the positive Hz jack (V/Ω).

3. Touch the test lead tips to the circuit under test.

4. Read the frequency value on the screen.

5. To measure duty cycle, press the FUNC button to indicate “%”.

6. Read the % duty cycle on the screen.

Warning: Do not apply more than 36VDC or 36VAC RMS between the hFE terminal and the COM terminal.

1. Set the rotary switch to the hFE range.

2. Connect the COM and “+” plug of the special multi-function socket to the COM and V input jack.

3. Determine whether the transistor under test is NPN or PNP type and locate the emitter, base, and collector leads.

4. Insert the leads from the transistor into the relevant jacks of the special multifunction socket.

5. The meter will display the approximate hFE value on the screen.

1. Set the rotary switch to the NCV position and wait for EF to display on the screen.

2. Contact the top part of the meter with the circuit being tested.

3. If voltage is present, the LED light will flash and an audible signal will sound, with the signal strength displayed on the screen.

Note: This test is for estimation only. Detection can be interfered with by socket design, insulation thickness, and other external sources like flashlights or motors.

This test is used to detect circuit leakage (approx. over 15V).

1. Set the rotary switch to the LINE position.

2. Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the V/Ω jack. Make sure to hold the insulated part of the black test lead and do not plug it into the circuit.

3. Contact the red test lead to the wire. If it’s live, the meter’s buzzer will sound and the red LED light will flash.

4. If an earth connection is detected, the buzzer will not sound and the LED light will not flash.

• HOLD FUNCTION: Press the HOLD button momentarily to freeze the current reading on the screen. Press it again to deactivate.

• MAX/MIN:

1. Press the MAX/MIN button to activate recording mode.

2. When the “MAX” icon is on screen, the meter displays and holds the maximum reading, updating only when a new maximum occurs.

3. When the “MIN” icon is on screen, the meter displays and holds the minimum reading, updating only when a new minimum occurs.

4. To exit, press and hold the MAX/MIN button for 2 seconds.

• RELATIVE MODE:

1. Press the REL button to store the current reading as a reference value. The REL indicator will appear. The display will now show the difference between new measurements and the stored value.

2. Press the REL button again to exit relative mode.

• DISPLAY BACKLIGHT: Press the backlight button for 1 or 2 seconds to turn the screen backlight on or off. The backlight automatically turns off after 10 seconds.

The Auto Power Off feature will automatically power down the meter after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. To disable this feature, hold down the FUNC button while turning the meter on.

Replace the battery as soon as the low battery indicator appears on the screen to avoid false readings.

1. Turn the power off and disconnect the test leads from the meter.

2. Open the rear battery cover with a screwdriver.

3. Insert the new 9V battery into the battery holder, observing the correct polarity.

4. Put the battery cover back in place and secure it with the screws.

1. Turn the power off and disconnect the test leads from the meter.

2. Remove the battery cover and the battery.

3. Remove the screws that are securing the rear cover.

4. Gently remove the old fuse and install the new fuse into the fuse holder.

5. Replace and secure the rear cover, battery, and battery cover.
